Aragon Bar, Glasgow

A bit pricey with a few cask ales. A much better, and less expensive selection is available at the nearby Tennent's.

There's a well attended quiz night on a Monday night, but it really is for the oldies and the cerebral. Young people should avoid this night.

Usually it's a welcoming pub, but as of March 2012 there are a couple of staff members, who would rather carry on behind the bar, than serve customers.

Unless you're a regular, I think the pub has little to offer. Regulars obviously like the place, and congregate at the top end of the bar. Herre they enjoy the company of the staff. This is to the detriment of other customers, who have to wait patiently for service.

The Joiners Arms, Carlisle

A basic no frills pub. Reasonable selection of beers and lagers, and a couple of cask ales.

Friendly manageress and staff.

A working man's pub. Don't go there if you're looking for anything fancy.

Locally it's called "the bluelugs". Apparently local workers used to use blue chalk to mark wood. When not using the chalk they stuck it behind their ears. They thus ended up with "bluelugs."

There's a rumour that the place is haunted.

An interesting wee pub.

The Rock, Glasgow

A big roomy pub with reasonable prices.

There is an area outside for sitting and drinking, but this has become the preserve of smokers. The manager does nothing to address this.

Toilets leave a lot to be desired.

The manager also seems determined to turn it into a Celtic supportters pub, by showing Celtic TV continually.

Overall there are better pubs in Byres Road and Partick.

The Ben Nevis, Glasgow

This bar is excellent . It has the best selection of whiskies I've ever seen. It's decor is unusual if not unique. Staff are friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit.
