The Eight Bells, Bolney

We went back for another meal on the 24th April but to be honest it seems that the quality of the meals and the service is not as good as it was. Again only one member of staff dealing with the meals and she seemed more interested in what the bar staff had been doing during the day chatting instead of serving customers. Nobody dealt with the fact that we wanted to pay our bill at the end of the meal perhaps IF there is a next time we should walk out. The free meal voucher scheme is a con as you can only get a couple of very basic meals for under £13. (Read the reverse of the voucher). We won't be going back for sometime.

The Eight Bells, Bolney

Had a meal here on Thursday 21st March 2013. Arrived at 1830 and taken to our table by the only member of staff on duty for the dining area. Service for the meal was good and the quality of the meals superb as was the Harveys best bitter. After three courses we sat for several minutes waiting to be asked about coffee etc in the end we had to ask the member of staff for the bill without being asked if we wanted coffee. Great shame but it was due to the member of staff having too many customers to deal with. Well worth a visit just for the quality of the meals.

The Onslow Arms, Loxwood

Myself and the better half visited the pub on Friday 8th Feb for the first time and we thought the service good and friendly the beer in good condition (Badgers). We had a lunchtime snack which was very tasty and was served within 15mins.
Overall we found the pub to be pleasant and welcoming will call again.

The Bear, Burwash

We have been doing a mini tour of Kent and stayed at the 'Bear' for one night in the Burwash Motel which is part of the 'Bear'. Booked a table for our evening meal the service was good but the food could have been better. My Wife had the Sausage and mash which she said was ok I had the Steak and Harvey ale pie, the pie was fantastic but the rest of the meal was quite poor veg not cooked and the meal came with sunte potatoes and not new as ordered and one of the potatoes was rotten. Had deserts which were free after the problems with my meal. The Harveys best was very good. Now to the room. The room was very tired and in need of attention the handle to the shower/toilet was coming away from the door and there was a lot of black mould around the shower. Overall we thought the room was no better than average. Have stayed in worse but have stayed in a lot better. The full English breakfast was very good but food was left uncovered in the bar!! It seems there was a problem in the kitchen as we were not the only ones to get items not ordered. Friendly staff but it is the little details that need looking at.

Pub now closed building is to be demolished.

The Oak Barn, Burgess Hill

We have never written two reviews so close together for the same establishment but after the superb meal that my Wife and I had at 'The Oak Barn' we felt the need for it. We had the Christmas three course meal which consisted of a Pate starter followed by roast belly pork with veg and roast potatoes and a wonderful Americam cheesecake for sweet and a coffee. All that was downed by two great pints of Harveys best. The service was to say the least fantastic and you can tell by the way the team work together that they do enjoy what they are doing. Nothing is too much trouble. We will be going again soon. Great Service, Great Food and draught beer at it's best what more could you ask. Give the 'Oak Barn' a try you won't be disapointed.

The Oak Barn, Burgess Hill

We popped into 'The Barn' Sunday lunchtime to pay a deposit on a Christmas lunch and we found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The beer (Harveys) was superb. Nothing seemed to be of any trouble and the customer clearly comes first. Although we didn't have a meal on this visit what was being served looked very good. The manager was well aware of what was going on and on the ball with any problems. Well worth a visit.

The Dolphin, Haywards Heath

Popped into the pub just for a drink today and to discover they have started a serve at your table system. That is ok as long as you have got enough staff to serve at the tables and today they clearly had not. People were starting to complain that they were waiting too long for someone to take their orders. Even if you want another drink you have to wait!! Time will tell before customers will start to leave because the wait it too long. When you arrive at the main door you have to ring the bell and wait for someone to come to direct you to a table can't wait to see the line of customers standing in the car park because nobody is at the desk. The food is OK but never consistent you could have the same meal three days running and it will never be of the same quality depends very much on which staff are on duty. The basics need to be right before you try new things be warned!!

The Stage Post, West Lavington

Pub closed and looks as though it is the end. Looks as though it could be demolished soon.

The Green Dragon, Market Lavington

We visited the pub while staying in a local B&B and the 6x was in superb condition and the two meals and the sweets we had chosen were fantastic in fact the service and quality was so good we booked for the following night which was as good as the first visit. One nice touch is that they give you a large bottle of chilled water with your meal. Great pub and the locals like it too.

The Churchill Arms, West Lavington

Popped into the Churchill last week to sample the beers and a meal the meal was good but the three 'Real ales' on seemed a bit suspect. The 6x was so bad I had to ask the guy behind the bar to change it for something else. The second pint was not much better.Could be that the pipes have not been cleaned for sometime. The only ale that was good enough to drink was the 'Henry's Smooth'.
The meal did make up for the poor beer and the service was very good.

The Goathland Hotel, Whitby

Visited this pub a couple of weeks ago and though the beer was ok it was VERY overpriced and was a VERY short measure nearly three quarters being head. Pub was empty and without the trade of the 'Heartbeat' fanatics this Pub/Hotel along with the village will eventually die. Landlord didn't seemed to care whether he had customers or not! The other pub across the road was very busy and at least they managed a smile and made you welcome. Not a pub to recommend apart from the 'Heartbeat' connection.

The Ardingly Inn, Ardingly

I stayed at the Ardingly Inn for three nights with my wife and in answer to the review of the 5th July we can only say that the reviewer has not stayed at the Inn. Yes as in EVERY pub you stay in there will be a bit of noise but it is a pub!
We have always found the food to be exellent and when staying you get a great breakfast. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Of course there are one or two things that could be better rooms could be warmer and more hot water and the bar loos need a makeover but apart from that we would recommend The Ardingly. It sounds as though someone has an axe to grind.

The Kings Head, Burgess Hill

WHAT A DUMP!! I had to meet someone here last week and was shocked that the health people allow it to remain open. The gents hand dryer is out of order with a notice stuck to it 'Danger do not use' what is that all about! One of the toilets is also 'Out of order' as for the Ladies well no light and pitch black and wait for it to flush the toilet you use a 'WOODEN SPOON' do they have to collect the spoon to cook with? As for the beer only one bitter on and that tasted as though it had been watered down. Only four of us in the place at 8pm on a Wednesday night you can see why. We all know that times are hard for pubs but if we don't bother to make an effort there won't be any left. I can see this place going the same way as the Junction Inn. If you don't believe this review please go and have a look.

Blue Anchor, Crowborough

We met at the pub today with my sister and her other half and it was the first time for the four of us. The service was superb and the food all exellent. The staff were all great and knew their job. I had a BBQ Platter off the specials board and it was fantastic and very tasty. My better half had the belly pork with all the veg and she said how good it was. I managed two pints of the Bishops Finger which was also in good nick. A very enjoyable visit and we will be going again. Keep up the good work

The Wheatsheaf, Cuckfield

THE PUB WITH NO BEER!! Sunday night no draught beers. The staff were asked why and we were told 'WE DON'T KNOW HOW TO CHANGE THEM' what a way to run a pub bar staff not trained to do the basic jobs.

The Snowdrop, Lindfield

Have just arrived back in Sussex and find the old pub closed well that didn't last long. We hope that The Snowdrop soon reopens we will give it a try when we are back this way. Good luck to anyone that takes it over.

The Snowdrop, Lindfield

You see this is what we can't understand, why is it that some people seem to think the pub is wonderful and there are no problems! All we can say is that we tell it as it is and the last meal that we had just four days ago was VERY poor. Staff running around like headless chickens and how stupid do they look in those uniforms you don't expect that in a country pub smart yes but not...!! We are not interested about lets get the previous people back to run it, all we want is a Snowdrop that is worth coming to for a nice meal and a drink, but that is not going to happen for sometime. We work with the general public and you will all be VERY suprised how many people talk about the Snowdrop, ordinary people that WERE customers people that don't know about this site but it is that 'Word of mouth' One disatisfied customer equals one hundred. Again I say listen to the passing customer you will learn a lot.

The Snowdrop, Lindfield

What a great shame that Hall & Woodhouse are STILL not taking any notice of all the complaints they are receiving from the very few occasional visitors to this once great little pub. It does seem to us that once people see how things have changed for the worse they never return. We have yet again been VERY foolish and been back to see just IF we have got it wrong, but enough is enough is it one big joke or are we missing something here. How did the new staff get their jobs? How can Hall & Woodhouse STILL advertise the pub as a FOOD LED establishment? Will it close for good? Because if we were to run our company like that we would never survive! We are customers (or were) and not mouth pieces for the pub, we are the people that the pub needs to keep it alive, but it will die if things to not improve.

Oh dear! What has happened to my old local then? Been away for a few months and thought we would give the old place a visit. Friday night and well what can I say no nice greeting from the staff and you would have thought there would have been as the place was nearly empty perhaps that's why! What has happened to the fantastic meals? I have had a better ready meal from Tesco's. I was told the pub has been taken over by new tennants blimey all I can say is 'Must do better'. Don't think we will go back. Great pity.
