Nice old school back street boozer full of character and a nice garden. Blond landlady is a lovely woman who is polite and helpful

mother123 i dont think this boozer will be closing down anytime soon, try going in there on the weekend the place is rammed
25 May 2011 20:01
Don't listen to mother123, he/she seems to write the complete opposite of what every pub is in his/her illiterate ramblings!
This is a proper old school pub, they have lots of weekend entertainment, such as live singers and has a quiz and darts league in the week. Very clean and tidy and busy at weekends.

Goes to show what a fictitious load of shite this pub is, prior to my last review the were 3 reviews in as many months, I post a bad review and all of a sudden 9 people randomly decide reviews, one after the other.
Do you think people are stupid? You'd have been lucky to have had 9 customers in the last week. It goes to show your good reviews are not genuine and the score is bogus. Aswell as your pub being shit

something seems strange regarding this pub, and that is how it seems to get such rave reviews on this sight.
I have been in there at 3 times in the last 6 or 7 months. Every time it was dull, drab and boring. The most people I've seen in a visit was 6 customers.
The pub its self is a tatty 1930's estate pub complete with a fried chicken shop attached. Inside there is a nice beer garden and pool table.
The beer is out of this world, well the price is. A standard larger is 2.80 in the cardigan, a similar amount in the Lord Morpeth and slightly more in the Albert. However in here the price is closer to the 4 mark. Maybe this is why they have no customers.
the management remind me of Noel Endmunds on Deal or No Deal, slithering around the pub striking up unnecessary small talk, even if you having a private conversation. No thanks mate leave me alone.
If your down the Old Ford Road try the Morpeth, it has a better interior and exterior, better punters and live entertainment.
This is the worst pub in the area, I went to the ministrone of sound and listened to a mix of horrible b sides, one minuet there was jazz, the next acid techno. It was like the puib, a mess

younggirlnextdoor- how dare you pull the race card. i went in here with a mate who is as dark as you like and never recived anything but good service. i suggest you hop on the first plane back to canada and wind them up with your politically correct bullshit

hell hole pub, very overpriced, boring dull middle class clientel. It's the sort of place where people from Hampshire come to congratulate one another about how rebelious they are living in a 'vibrant, multicultural area' then talk about art, crap etc. only good thing is the staff are helpful especially the lady with the enormous laught!

The Salmon and Ball, Bethnal Green
seen the place on fire the other day, litterally. hopefuly their wasnt too much damage and the pub can reopen!
22 Aug 2010 14:23
went in here friday lunch time, was well impressed with it. The pub is very clean and tidy, the barmaid was pleasant and drinks were cheap. We ate had 2 reasonable meals for 8!!
This is a fantasic place and with parking, great views and a large beer garden

The Marquis Of Cornwallis, Bethnal Green
lenny- the reason there are so many cockneys in the pub is beacause it's in the middle of sodding bethnal green.
Its's a decent enough pub, friendly staff had a mad fella in there last time who had just got out of hospital after having a pacemaker fitted and was drinking champaigne and went off with a brass
1 Jul 2010 15:54
i dont like the refurb but had a nice pint and watched the football in there the other day
7 Jun 2010 14:37
went in there a little bit pissed and had a run in with a very rude polski barmaid. its a mugs pub and does a great job at that
6 Jun 2010 15:04
The Bancroft Arms, Stepney Green
People on here moaning that a pub doesn't serve real ale should realise the reason why; the vast majority of drinkers dont like it, its an aquired taste. Went in there on Friday, it was busy, and had very reasonable pices, 2.60 a pint
6 Jun 2010 15:02
good place to watch sport, nice to have somewhere normal in a wierd area. they also do 3D football, which i must check out! And the tubby issacs seafood staff on the side alley makes it worth the trip
6 Jun 2010 15:00
Its now called Zizi's or something, an upmarket grill running out of a Mile End estate pub!
6 Jun 2010 12:14
I'm still undecided about this pub, Sometimes it's good, sometimes bad.
The food is hit and miss aswell, I had an INCREDIBLE bangers and mash in there and one of the most average sunday lunches at 9 quid! The staff arn't local; I think that takes a bit of the charecter away from the pub. Also there seems to be a fair few yuppies in there, got nothing against them but where a pub was laught's and jokes, they make it feel more like a library, I've even see one of them trying to pay for a bag of penuts on credit card!

RE: mendes.
Yes I do enjoy watching the occasional football match, does that make me a 'total brainless idiot'.
Many people do 'invade the pub' to watch football, but why does it make it a no-go area for you camra people? is it all the men drinking beer that makes you feel unconfortably, mainly just about your sexuality....?
as for the pub trade, i think the average landlord, especially in the Eastend would rather have a football fan, drinking a few pints an hour, visit for a day than you and your muggy camra pals going round witherspoons comparing the prices and %%'s on each point.
As for this pub, I've been there a few times, quite a nice pub, nothing special.
3 Jun 2010 19:09
And John Bonser, what the hell has the flag of england got to do with the bnp, west ham or millwall you sap
1 Jun 2010 22:20
Doggerisle, from what you've writtan you sound like a freak, thats probably why the landlord kicked you out. prick

The Old Friends, Bethnal Green
now a chinese resturant, and to rub salt into the wounds they have put the old sign outside again.
13 May 2010 17:33
A top boozer, the manager Dave has turned it round and now its one of the best pubs in the area... They have alot of entertainment, singers, kareoke and a monday blues club.
Free seafood and bar snacks on a sunday, its an top place to watch the football and all the staff are friendly.
Only complaint is the garden is a bit boring but you can't have it all!
9/10
13 May 2010 17:26
the bottle bar, dont try the draft. this pub is reasonable, i think its seems a bit like an english style pub you find in malage! shows football, has a nice garden and good atmosphere
10 May 2010 12:11
Decent and warm pub, nice and quiet, but has a pool table. 8/10
6 May 2010 16:53
being turned into a guest house? seen a couple of pakis doing the work so I guess the downstairs won't contain a pub. and another one bites the dust!!
6 May 2010 16:51
Reasonable pub, sat alone on a street where there used to be 4! Not to good, not to bad, more one for the regulars
6 May 2010 16:51
The Constitution, Lisson Grove
holburnboy- are people who do manual work not alowed a drink after work? as for ignorant irishman i think you have proved to be the ignorant one...
26 Jan 2010 11:48
to quote ginger_beard:
'What a great atmosphere, very relaxing - couples chatting, locals reading the Guardian, soft reggae music in the background before a pianist and singer beautifully performed a few easy listening classics. The Adnams Broadside was delicious. Will be going back very soon....'
WHAT A HELL HOLE
1 Oct 2009 19:06

1 Oct 2009 19:01

1 Oct 2009 18:59
the owner seems to have lost intrest with this place. expensive and full of billy bozzos. needs a change of ownership before its run to the ground.
1 Oct 2009 18:58
great pub, good atmosphere. popular with the younger mob, has 2 pool tables and entertainment every weekend.
1 Oct 2009 18:54
its ok, bit boring. they dont make alot of effort to run it and the owner seems desperate to turn the only nice building in plaistow into flats
1 Oct 2009 18:53
went in here for the 1st time in a while. the new managers have appeared to done magic on it. saturday afternoon it was absolutly rammed. busy, good atmosphere and good prices. never used to think much of it but they have done a blinding job. well done.
1 Oct 2009 18:52
full of morons who claim to be artists. the manager pauline is one most irritating people on the planet. i hate the place, the people and what they stand for
11 Feb 2009 21:35
not what ive heard greenie. one of the landlords of another local bub said they've snapped it up and are doing refurb before reopening
11 Feb 2009 21:16
went in here tonight for the first time in a year or so. it was a kareoke night, now dont get me wrong i enjoy a sing song as much as the next man but it was shocking to see how the clientel has dipped from hardworking eastenders, to mummy boys who parents are renting them a yuppie flat next door, to loudmouthed northern trailor trash working on the olympic site. i think the pub looks great, beers good, and is well run, i just dont like listening to loud mouth f***s shouting
6 Feb 2009 00:50
great pub, does food and doesnt get any trash in there.. 8 out of 10
9 Dec 2007 22:40
oh and advertising a double vodka redbull for 7.20- seriously get a grip
9 Dec 2007 22:34
I'm not a cheapskate, but 3.10 for a pint of carlsberg is daylight robbery. especially in a dump like hackney. the pub is ok, there is alot better around. I won't be going again purely becuase a pub is suppose to be a home from home and being ripped off is something i get from tower hamlets council, not something i want in a boozer
9 Dec 2007 22:33
god almighty this place is a hell hole. complete dickish customers
11 Nov 2007 17:11
The Earl of Wakefield, East Ham
nice looking pub, i think its only still there because of the football trade, was in there on a friday and the only customers where 5 wannabe gangsta asian lads chatting about 'repping e6'. shame
11 Nov 2007 17:09
The Princess of Wales, Stratford
good pub, brilliant on the weekends... but why do they advertise food and never sell it
21 Oct 2007 20:10
The King Edward VII, Stratford
full or irons.... advoid unless you want to here people talking about the slave trade, how great divercity is and 'i can't belive it's 2007 and theres still racism in the world'
21 Oct 2007 20:08
dont know why this pub isnt getting the recognition it deserves on this site... I come in here occasionally and it's always excellent. It's lively in the evening with bands and kareoke, the bar staff are friendly and helpful, they play most West Ham matches, got 2 pool tables and to top it of today I tried the steak and guiness pie and it was reame. good hearty english food and only 4.25
I give it 9
21 Oct 2007 20:06

went in here the other day, reasonable choice of beers and bitter and friendly service
27 Oct 2006 01:46
somtimes i go in here and its incredible, some times its bollocks. i was a bit hacked of, one of the staff got pissy about eating a chinese outside after the pub stopped serving food.
however the bangers and mash served in this place is soooooo good. gotta be the best in london
27 Oct 2006 01:41

27 Oct 2006 01:34
The Tenterden Arms, Bow
pub was being demolished last week :-( strange the concil would allow the only attractive building in the whole manor to be knocked down
