The Swan, Bayswater

This one ticked all the boxes on first equaintence; great looking pub with a superb frontage, balcony and trading area. Cracking views accross the park and a good mix of pub going folk all I would happily share a table with. As ever the devils in the detail and really the delivery of the service was quite rubbish. The menus crap.
9 options in pub such as this is poor and two of them were just variations on a theme. The food didnt arrive at the same time and the plates were cold, cutlery was not offered for some and no sauces were provided. The sausage and mash was ok and the onion gravy a cheap granuled catering job, positivley full of flavour compared to the peas that were near grey in color. I feel this pub trades well due to the location and the Fullers reputation.

The Hay Waggon Inn, Hartfield

nice warm welcome on a busy sunday, top roast dinner and a great pint of westerham's grasshopper. attractive gardens and a lovely pub front give an ideal country pub experience. its a free house in rural sussex, so maybe more local products on the bar would be welcome, who needs to see bass and budweiser on tap when theres so much locally produced microbrews available?

The Plough Inn, Rottingdean

Pleasant welcome and a fine pint of Harveys Olympic, served on a busy saturday afternoon, bar chap brought the latte outside to the table. Other pubs are pretty dire in this area, will check the food next time.

The Cliftonville Inn, Hove

Is it in the Wetherspoons brand values to be short staffed on any given day? Does the core product require more glasses to be left on the tables than behind the bar? Dont know but then again you do get an ever changing cask line up and fridges stocked with quality bottles. How many pubs have Czech Harold black lager in them for a couple of quid? You might wait a bit and theres a few rare breeds in here, but its better than being fleeced of 3 drinking up the road.

White Horse Hotel, Rottingdean

Enjoyed a wedding function here, large workmanlike useable space, clean loos if somewhat uninspiring decor all round. Staff not that attentive but friendly though.
Bar with usual brands and Greene king ales, staff couldnt tell me what the 'white horse ale' was but it tasted like the usual GK offering, bland and thin. The Guiness was great though, poored correctly with tight white head, no drips, correct glass etc. The wedding DJ had top qulaity fuzzy grey hair - just like 'Hairbear!' from the Hanah Barbera cartoons...

The Basketmakers Arms, Brighton

Truly one of Brightons finest pubs. Never short of conversation in this hostlery. I love the decor with all the original tobaco tins, good fun reading whats inside them! Before Fullers took over the Gales beers were supreme - going to miss Crowning Glory seasonal ale and have not seen Festival in here for some time. Only gripes here would be the smell of chip fat during food sevice, some knackered scratched-up glasswear and the smoke from snouts. Grumbles really, I should shut up..

The Great Eastern, Brighton

cracking boozer, shows just what a small corner pub should be about. atmosphere, lighting, ambience and good products. allways love a Pleisure pub as they have a top range of qulaity spirits and ales. last time here was quite recently, the '70's prog rock' night was too loud for conversation so we left and the cask beer was warm. wont stop visiting though, friendly crowd.
