I'm not a fan of live bands in pubs and I find it strange that a pub should be rated as good or bad depending on the live music it stages. There's nothing worse than having a drink with your mates before being drowned out by some band playing covers, which I could as easily select on the jukebox. The management here is pretty poor, never a welcome although the bar staff are good on the whole. The end is nigh!!!

I'd agree with the earlier comment re undesirables. Not sure why either as the William IV is their usual habitat. Shame 'cos it was the one remaining lively pub for the older crowd.

I tend to visit once of twice a month for weekday lunch. The burgers are top-drawer. I've noticed that the staff actually seem to care and if anything ever goes wrong, they're brilliant at sorting things out. On the negative side, now that the doors are closed for winter, the pub is incredibly smokey, but I guess that won't be a problem in a few month's time.
