Nags Head, Reading

This pub is fantastic and I would consider moving to Reading so I could be closer to it!! 12 real ales on and as there were 4 of us we bought a 4 pint pitcher working out at 2.50 a pint, bargain. The Stonehenge Eye Opener was superb and we ended up staying for 6 hours and tried at least 7 ales all superbly kept of course. I will definately be back as soon as possible. I wish there were more pubs like this but unfortunatley they are a dying breed.

The Hawley Arms, Camden

Was in here yesterday and I was shocked by the way that the snooty bar staff looked down there nose at me!! My money is exactly the same as these so called celebs! Not a bad place in fairness and a cool little back garden. It was reasonbly priced too considering its press coverage etc. We were caught out however when the heavens opened and loads of people piled in from the street and this is not a nice place to be when full. People pushing past you and clambering over each other to get to the bar. Sort the staff out and get rid of the stupid doormen and this would be a bloody good pub.

The Windmill on the Common, Clapham Common

Not good. Was in her on Thurs night and I was quite shocked. The service was good so no complaints there but it is SO expensive here. I don't mind paying for good food but 20 quid for an 8oz steak, which was nowhere near 8oz, is taking the mick. It did come with 12 chips, yes 12 I counted them!! If this pub wasn't so busy ripping people off then it may stand a chance but sadly someone must be making lots of cash so I can't see it changing any tme soon as it was pretty busy.

I cannot recommend this pub to anybody.

The Hammer and Tongs, Basingstoke

I heard that the landlord has barred a regular of about 30 years. This may seem a trifle silly but the regular's do not OWN the pub so fair play to him. Still my local boozer and improving day by day. Just wish they would get more real ales in and keep rotaing them. Then it would become an awsome local boozer

The Princess of Wales, Charing Cross

Had a pint of Morrisey & Fox Blonde in here. Not so great but at least we did our bit for comic relief! This pub seemed a bit 'you are not good enough to be in here' but we just stood outside and watched people rush by who clearly had a mission to be somewhere.

19 Mar 2009 00:53

The Tom Cribb, Piccadilly

Friendly enough and a good pint of Early Bird. Actually very good. Not sure why but I didn't seem to feel totally comfortable whilst I was in here. Don't really know why but thats how I felt.

Adam and Eve, Westminster

Popped in when my mate and I somehow found ourselves by Buckingham Palace ( still don't know how! ) and had a wander down the road.Got served by who I think was the Landlady and she was very friendly and weloming. Not the best choice of ales so had to plump for Adnams. Very good though and the service was almost superb apart from being told off for not closing the back door properly! Sorry but I did not do it on purpose......honest x

The Maidenhead Inn, Basingstoke

I wish they would stop this 99p deal ASAP. Now when you enter this pub the regular punters who are spending thier dole money can now afford three times the amount of drink!! Picture the scene, a nice Monday afternoon and beer garden full of such people. Bottle of 99p San Miguel in hand and thier cheap fag in the other. Disgusting.

Otherwise though its pretty good in here now and I agree with previous comments that the service has vastly improved and they are clearing the tables a lot quicker too. Well done to all.

17 Mar 2009 16:26

The Crown and Cushion, Waterloo

Old Speckled Hen was reasonably good, well drinkable, this was pub number nine on our crawl so was getting a bit weary!! Why is it so dark in here?? I was tempted to ask for a torch to find my way to the garden or maybe some carrots.

17 Mar 2009 11:42

The Porcupine, Leicester Square

Had four real ales but my mate and I had already tried the three in prevoius pubs so we had no choice (one rule of our pub crawl) but to go for a pint of Doom Bar. Nice pint and well kept but not sure why the Barman felt the need to serve it in jugs?! I am 28 and looked a bit strange with the damned thing. Seemed to have quite a strange atmosphere I couldn't put my finger on it but not sure if I will go back.

17 Mar 2009 11:36

The Bear and Staff, Leicester Square

Top selection of ales and after we were given a sample we went for the Sign of Spring which was green!! It looked like we had pints of lime squash but a nice beer and well kept. Staff very friendly and great location for sitting out front and watching the people of London rushing by. I will be back.

17 Mar 2009 11:29

The Salisbury, Leicester Square

Had a lovely pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord in here yesterday. Servce was prompt and very friendly, in fact almost spot on. 3.05 a pint was a bit excessive but I suppose it is to be expected given the location. Good friendly pub and I will most certainly be back. Well done all!!

17 Mar 2009 11:22

The Marquis, Covent Garden

Went to go to the Harp but it was busy so we popped in here instead. I was amazed that as the Harp was so full that there was just one old boy at the bar and no-body else in!! That filled me with dread as there must be a reason why the place was so empty as it seemed nice enough. Only one ale though, London Pride which was pretty good. But they should offer at least three as a minimum standard to be a proper boozer!! Not a bad pub but could be improved if the barmaid learnt how to use the till properly and they put some tables out front so my mate and I could sit and people watch.

17 Mar 2009 11:17

The Chicago Rock Cafe, Basingstoke

I waited a whole 26 minutes to get served in here last night! Shocking

16 Nov 2008 14:16

The Maidenhead Inn, Basingstoke

I have posted some bad reviews about 'Spoons' but the place is growing on me. I always have a great night in here when with a couple of mates and it is pretty cheap too!! All good I just wish that they would be more selective over who they let in as there always seems to be some very annoying people in here. The types that have just signed on and are putting their dole money to good use.

16 Nov 2008 14:13

The Bakers, Basingstoke

The only good thing about this place is 2.00 a pint for Carling. But this turns into a negative because it means that this pub is ALWAYS full of drunken idiots who have just spent their benefit money on the stuff. Avoid.

16 Nov 2008 14:06

The Spotted Horse, Putney

Popped in yesterday afternoon about 6pm and the place was empty! Well at 3.60 for a pint I am not suprised. I was a good pint though and this pub was very clean. Nowhere to smoke though so I had to stand out on the high street and couldnt even take my beer with me!

17 Aug 2008 15:45

Princess Royal, Brentford

Popped in here for a couple before the match yesterday. Staff very friendly, pub clean and the locals were a good bunch. Even when the place got full nearer to kick off the service was still fast. All in all a very enjoyable visit. I will definately be back!

17 Aug 2008 15:39

The Maidenhead Inn, Basingstoke

Dont serve me a drink at 23.55 and then force me to hurry up and drink it at 00.01! Annoying and the staff were quite forceful and rude about it. Shame really because it is nor a bad Wetherspoons just let down by the staff.

29 Apr 2008 16:32

Queens Arms, Basingstoke

Without doubt the best pub in Basingstoke. Seriously considering making this my permanent regular drinking venue. I only pop in about once a week at the mo but every time I do there is always a great choice of ales which are supberb on every occasion. If I manage to tear myself away from my local I will definately choose The Queens first.

29 Apr 2008 16:28

Three Barrels, Basingstoke

Correct fiftyfive!

12 Dec 2007 23:00

Queens Arms, Basingstoke

Gordon Ramsey once said 'ban microwaves'. Having said that he admitted that every world class kitchen has at least one. So for all you complainers, the food here is VERY good and if you do not like it I suggest you speak to Donna who will be more then understanding to your views and will listen. This is a very good pub and it always will be!

9 Apr 2007 02:43

The Crown, Old Basing

Well 852 if you love sitting in this pub to watch the world go by then you must be amazingly rich. I agree with anonymous, it is very expensive for what you get. Yes the food is good but not THAT good! You can get food just as good for a lot less in many other pubs.

4 Apr 2007 03:22

Rhu Bar, Basingstoke

I agree with Tobo, he is an absolute moron. He will find that very soon the council will realise that he has the most inaccessable bar in Basingstoke and FORCE him to pay money (shame) to improve access for the less fortunate. Do not forget Mr Bates it is the council who will grant you your next license, you hope. I do believe that disabled peoples money is the same as yours and everybody elses!

4 Apr 2007 03:04

The Hammer and Tongs, Basingstoke

Hmmm, mystery person you obviously do not like a good local pub. The people that come into the Hammer are hard working and enjoy a nice pint after work. If you find that intimidating then maybe you should drink in the Spruce Goose!!

27 Feb 2007 01:12

Lloyds No 1, Basingstoke

I was in here on Friday 23rd Feb and as usual at the end of the night, after they had taken my money, I was forced out of the door. It reminded me why I do not drink in this pub. They are welcoming and pleasent until it is closing time and they cannot get rid of you quick enough! "Thank you for your custom" would be nice!!

27 Feb 2007 01:02

The Maidenhead Inn, Basingstoke

My opinion of this pub is improving but I will still only come here if it was the only pub open. Yes it is cheap, which I like, but it is also the hardest pub in the world to get a conversation out of the bar staff. Are they robots?

27 Feb 2007 00:56

The Chicago Rock Cafe, Basingstoke

I see my previous comments have been removed, fair. I was in here the other night and I have to say that it is possibly the most depressing place in Basingstoke. Is this where people come to die?

27 Feb 2007 00:53

The Chineham Arms, Chineham

I agree with chrisateversley, dont bother. You may as well go to McDonalds for your Sunday lunch. Also has some very suspect regulars...........

27 Feb 2007 00:49

The Barbican, Popley

I still love this pub and am amazed that nobody has commented since I last did. Come on people this is a good pub!!

27 Feb 2007 00:46

The Popinjay, Basingstoke

You will need some form of weapon to be safe in here! If you enjoy regular family fights and morons with pool cues staring at you, have fun. Otherwise avoid. I had one pint which was very good though.

27 Feb 2007 00:44

The Way Inn, Basingstoke

Very very good! I like this pub as the staff are polite and personable. Good beer and friendly locals. RECOMMEND!

12 Nov 2006 02:45

The Castle, Basingstoke

I agree. I loved this pub as soon as I stepped foot into it. Good beer and great locals. Proper English pub, none of your chain shit.

12 Nov 2006 02:38

The Barbican, Popley

Very good and a great atmosphere. If you like cheap beer and chain pubs then this is not for you. This is my favourite estate pub in Basingstoke. SWEET.

12 Nov 2006 02:34

Queens Arms, Basingstoke

I agree with anotherpintplease, a very nice pub which I like. Although I would say a bit pricey. I do not mind though as the extra pence makes for a great atmosphere and a really good night. Good London pride!

12 Nov 2006 02:23

The Maidenhead Inn, Basingstoke

I would like to argue, but as you are too shy to identify yourselves, I cannot. I visited this place again today and I was pleasently surprised. I was in fact impressed. Of course my last comment was made after a bad experience. I will never say I like this pub but maybe I was a little rash. I do however stand by my previous comments as that is how I found it at the time.

12 Nov 2006 02:17

The Percy Hobbs, Winchester

I ordered food on a Sunday, busy day but all I ordered was a mixed combo. A few onion rings and dips etc......40 Mins! Not worth the journey.

6 Nov 2006 01:51

The Millstone, Old Basing

The landord is the rudeist and most miserable I have ever met. Does he want my custom or not? Never mind as he has lost mine for ever. Also very expensive.

24 Oct 2006 00:27

The White Hart, Basingstoke

I would like to drink in this pub on a regular basis but there is one problem. Why does the landlord insist on wandering around in his Arsenal shirt. When does it get washed? Ok so you are an Arsenal fan, I do not need reminding every time I go for a drink. Very good pub by the way and good food also.

18 Oct 2006 05:26

The White Hart, Basingstoke

As a regular I cannot really be impartial, so what!!
I love this pub because I can go in at any tine on any day and get a good welcome. Rarely any trouble and everyone, goths, suits and "townies" get along and there is no problem. Well done Kurt for making the White Hart a great pub!

18 Oct 2006 05:04

Dexters Bar and Grill, Basingstoke

I like Dexters, the food is good and I have always recieved good service. The meals they serve are fantastic and you do not feel rushed to finish. Yes it is quite pricey but I am more then happy to pay for good quality food. Check it out and you will not be disappointed.

18 Oct 2006 04:49

The Hammer and Tongs, Basingstoke

Could do with a lick of paint! Nice boozer though. John keeps things sane and sensible. I love the whole put pint glasses in the fridge policy. Never had such a cold pint.

18 Oct 2006 04:18

The Maidenhead Inn, Basingstoke

Sticky tables and rude staff. Just what you want on a night out. Do not even bother going in to this establishment on a Friday or Saturday night as you will feel like a Sardine. No sorry, I think they have more room to move in their tin. If you get served within 15mins you are lucky but then you are made to feel that you are putting them out!! DONT BOTHER

18 Oct 2006 03:45

The Allied Arms, Reading

A charming old pub, one which I make a point of visiting every time I am in Reading. Small and welcoming I feel as though I have been drinking there for years. Good beer, relaxed atmos. The one downside however, is no food. All the same a friendly bar, even for an outsider like me!
