Gamekeepers, Mapledurwell

Since being introduced to the pub we have visited several times for the food. Not cheap but excellent selection with a game bias. Landlord likes to take you through the offerings personally and they will vary to suit if possible. Thoroughly recommended.

The St George and Dragon, Wargrave

Doesn't really count as a pub. It looks as if it should be stand-alone but the feel inside is of a chain. Staff are on the officious side of efficient. Not unpleasant but no charm.

Calleva Arms, Silchester

We have been to the Calleva for a drink and meal quite often. Reasonable selection of beers and excellent food.

The Rose and Thistle, Reading

We visited for the first time earlier this year and it now one of our regular watering holes. It has also become the local for our son and his Reading supporting friends and part of their home game days.
Although, being a Green King Pub, the range of beers offered is not huge or very varied they do usually have a special. The food is well prepared, served in large portions and good value for money. The bar staff all give the impression that they want to be there and are friendly and efficient.
