The Bulls Head, Sale

mmmm, take your life in your hands for the kids disco night on a saturday, but not too bad the rest of the time, tried hard with ales, but act like they dont believe in it really. Probably the usual "locals" would be interested id guess

The Hawkestone Arms, Wem

Very old style boozer, with good ale and friendly welcome, even if it did remind slightly of an estate type pub. Not the easiest to find, but better than the ratings suggest and worth searching out if you are having a bit of a crawl round. 2 real ales, Worthing Red and Three Tuns, both kept and served well

The Albion, Wem

Nice enough pub with friendly bar staff and the food was very good. 3 different real ales on and the two we sampled both from Salopian brewery were good and a bargain at only 2 a pint. Worth a pint or 5 if your in the area (we were camping just down the road)

Shamrock, Manchester

Backstreet boozer with a surprisingly friendly welcome from the pleasant down to earth staff and sharon the landlady. No real ale yet which is a downer, but its coming in a few weeks.

May not be the safest place on a friday or saturday night, but nice enough for an early morning pint (opens 11, sometimes earlier) before heading off to the marble (opens 12).

Pool table and the fact that this is the last remaining pub on Bengal st (of Gangs of Manchester Bengal Tigers fame) make this one worth popping into

The Bree Louise, Euston

Nice pub, excellent ales and knowledgeable bar staff. Tried 5 or 6 of the beers, all good and well kept.

One minor grumble, website says its open till late, last orders was rung at 10.30 and there was only one bell, no warning of impending last orders, so ending up missing out on our last pint!

Only minor complaint though, and we'll certainly be back next season

Hop and Vine, Hull

Great little pub, popped in at 11am on saturday and were made to feel very welcome. Only there for an hour as we had other pubs to try but will definitely be back. Had 2 pints of ale, both tip top condition.

Definitely worth a search out.

Honest Lawyer, Scunthorpe

Nice little pub with very pretty bar maids and a good selection of real ales. If there was one criticism, it would be that they were slighly too cold, but it would be harsh as all the ones we tried were good (about 7 different ones).

Food was football special, basic, but just what people wanted. Home made steak pie chips and peas (which looked superb) for 4.50 or sausage or bacon barm and chips for 2.50. Great value

Would thoroughly recommend it, and should our team ever play them again, we'll be back there like a shot

The Hare and Hounds, Manchester

Cracking pub, just off the city centre. Beer excellent and probably one of the best pints of bitter you will get anywhere in the town centre. Always busy and if pensioner kareoke isnt your idea of fun, you're probably best off sat in the front room. But dont let this put you off, its well run, friendly and good staff, and i say the beer is superb

The Bulls Head, Manchester

Very nice pub, excellent beer. Location is superb, but prices do put people off staying for long periods of time.

I suspect a fair bit of trade comes from the one or two pints before me train trade, so hence the higher prices.

Still well worth a visit if you like your real ales. Food aint bad either

The Angel, Manchester

First time in here since it was the beerhouse, and a pleasant surpise. Thought it had gone all foody but that seemed to be upstairs. Downstairs was nice pleasant pub, friendly bar staff and about about 10 different beers on

Pint i had was very nice (only one as part of a crawl), but will deffo be back shortly. At 2.40 a pint werent too bad either for well kept beer. Certainly one to stick on the real beer crawlers list

The Crown and Cushion, Manchester

Good pub, something of a hidden gem. Beer was excellent and well kept, typical Holts pub really. Friendly bar staff, decent clientele. Interesting piccies on the wall as well if your a boxing fan.

15 Dec 2009 09:44

The Dutton Hotel, Manchester

nice enough pub, only had one ale on we were there, but was perfectly good pint, not bad for a quick one.

15 Dec 2009 09:42

The Rosehill Tavern, Westhoughton

Typical Holts pub, welcoming, good beer, friendly locals

well worth a visit, and we'll be be back again next year undoubtedly

15 Dec 2009 09:30

The Poacher, Blackrod

Seems it doent open till 12 on a saturday - which is a shame as would have tried it this weekend. Looks like it may have to wait, alternative venue to be sought

9 Dec 2009 16:46

Bar Fringe, Manchester

Sounds like the staff have changed or improved. A quality pub then, and worth a stop at when your in manchester. Good middle ground between the marble arch and the crown and kettle also.

Good sized beer garden for the summer as well

25 Nov 2009 16:11

The Railway, Emsworth

Been done up now and nowhere near as bad as before. Landlord seemed a nice chap and let us in when the doors had supposedly closed for the evening, but still open for another couple of hours (bizarre ruling they have in the town)

Locals were welcoming, no hint of mither, considerably better that teh last time we came down 12 months ago.

Bar staff were excellent as well. Worth a visit !

2 Sep 2009 10:25

The Blue Bell, Emsworth

nice pub , slightly lacking in beer selection if im honest, but friendly staff and well looked after, certainly worth a stop whiclst on a trek round

2 Sep 2009 10:21

The Coal Exchange, Emsworth

Nice pub, decent enough pints, wish people down south would learn to use sparklers though, but still nice beer. Seemed frindly enough even to some norverners there just for the night, and we were made to feel very welcome by the staff and customers. Keep it up chaps

2 Sep 2009 10:20

The Eddington Arms, Hindley

Nice pub, good beer, friendly welcome. Good pool table and outside beer garden (with televsion) for smokers. only get chance to go once a year, will be there again middle of october and expect the usual

27 Aug 2009 09:02

The Old Plough, Ashton upon Mersey

Nice pub , good ale. Landlord seems abrupt at times, but ive found if you dont upset him, he doesnt bother you.

Not a place for kiddies and food is average, but proper locals pub with good beer will do for me

13 Aug 2009 14:37

The Fernhurst and Star Lodge, Blackburn

Decent enough pub, packed on match days, outside bars make it easier to get drink, and even the plod are understanding and let you walk to the ground with your pint

21 Jul 2009 09:48

The Scarbrough Hotel, Leeds

Nice pub , good ale . A must for myself when stoppiing off in Leeds

6 Jul 2009 11:18

Railway Hotel, Doncaster

Pub next to station, good location for quick one before or after train journeys. We went before the racing on a friday and it was pleasant enough. Two cask ales on but werent brilliantly kept but drinkable. Maybe a little more care needed.

Good pool table though

6 Jul 2009 11:12

Dirty Dick's, Bishopsgate

Very nice pub, although a bit on the expensive side. Cant really see the justification for that, however pleasant enough place to drink, though ive only been in on weekend dinner when just the one bar was open.

19 May 2009 14:27

The Baltic Fleet, Liverpool

Excellent array of beers, and knowledgeable staff. Unfortunately the place is bit of a fleapit and needs some work doing on it if it is to survive. Its a shame really, because it could be a little gem.
Come on whoever owns it, spend a few bob and reap the rewards

27 Apr 2009 11:59

Doctor Duncans, Liverpool

Excellent pub just near to Lime Street. Superb range of beers, lovely pub, friendly staff, best pub in liverpool ive visited. Will always go back again now

Would have got a 10 rating excecpt for not being open at 11am, so drops a point for that. Only fault though.

The raisin beer is superb !

27 Apr 2009 10:05

Bar Fringe, Manchester

Good pub , always a good selection of beers and ciders on, excellent range of bottled beers. Beer garden is pleasant enough as well on a sunny day. Good as part of a crawl, from the marble or crown and kettle etc

Staff are generally abrupt with you though. Maybe its the high turnover of staff i dont know, but they do need to sort this out. A smile and a please and thank you every now and again wouldnt go amiss, instead of the scowls and grunts you sometimes get.

22 Apr 2009 10:35

The Castle Hotel, Manchester

Cant rate yet - wasnt open at 12.30 on a saturday afternoon - poor show there boys , as you had 4 thirsty blokes waiting to spend some cash

will try again in a couple of weeks

14 Apr 2009 11:12

The Waldorf Hotel, Manchester

Decent enough boozer, good real ales, especially The Manchester bitter.

Not sure who the "scrotes " are, i have been a regular in this boozer for years now and I cant say it really has any sort of problem.

Bogs need sorting though, so come on wayne, splash a bit of your cash on em and get em sorted

26 Feb 2009 13:49

The Wellington, Birmingham

Best pub in Birmingham IMHO.

a must for all visitors

26 Feb 2009 11:51

The City Arms, Manchester

Excellent little pub, great beer. Very small though so can get busy straight after work.

Best is half day off to work your way through the beers

26 Feb 2009 11:49

The Fly in the Loaf, Liverpool

Went for the first time on sunday. Whilst quiet as sunday dinner time, beer choice was excellent and staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

Big open pub, but with a number of seating areas, and sport on the tele

Will definitely return upon our next return to liverpool (everton game probably)

23 Feb 2009 10:22

The Marble Arch, Manchester

Best pub in manchester, bar none

Great food, great beer all the time.

Only minus, doesnt open till 12 on saturdays, could do with opening at 11

9 Jan 2009 16:38

The Volunteer Hotel, Sale

Great pub, brilliant beer, friendly natives. Good pool table, high quality darts team, and generally nice atmosphere throughout whenever i go in

Not for youngsters, more for people who like a good drink of good beer in relaxed surroundings

9 Jan 2009 14:54

The Dog and Partridge, Thorpe

I have seen the reviews and felt I should comment. We visited this pub 1st June, beer was fine and service was friendly. They still close at 3pm which is a bit rubbish at weekends (particularly sunny ones) but I suppose in winter it is very quiet. We then went back the next day (sunday) as we had noticed the sign regarding the carvery at 6.75. This is served in a seperate restaurant area at the back of the pub and i must say that both the food and the service were excellent. Portions were plentiful and excellently presented. Whilst there have been moans below, I suggest you take a chance to go yourselves, particularly on a sunday for sunday lunch, you wont be dissappointed
