The Prince of Wales, Caversham

Mediocre furnishings, painting-by-numbers staff and unfortunately the chav hordes of Caversham have decided to make this their local of choice. Luckily it does not advertise itself as a family pub and I can clearly see why; I'm surprised they haven't got metal detectors on the door.

Nags Head, Reading

Sadly now bought out by Wetherspoons. One can only hope Lord Jason won't be the new landlord.

The Three Tuns, Reading

That's Keith and Teresa Brown squire, twisted fag ash starters if ever there were one or one point five judging by their guttage. Fat bar stewards. And they are! Of this very establishment although not for much longer bless the brewery.

The Hope Tap, Reading

Although a bit too near the local job centre for my liking this venue is easily the best of the town's Wetherspoons. The staff clearly trumping the workshy Monk's mob and don't even get me started on the den of inequity that is the Back of Beyond. A staff award should go to barman Paul here who surely has to be one of the hardest workers a spoons has ever seen. I've seen the fella deal with difficult customers with grace and aplomb which is no small feat in Reading. Top banana.

The Turks, Reading

Alongside The Retreat and The Horn one of Reading's finer venues. You do of course get the rugby crowd but hey can't have everything...

The Horn, Reading

Great service and a great selection of ales; what more can you ask for? Top marks to the landlady, one of the most pleasant individuals to serve behind a bar which when you consider the competition in the area is top praise indeed.

The Retreat, Reading

One of Reading's most pleasant and charming establishments run by a real ale connoisseur who clearly knows his stuff. I have yet to find an establishment in the local area that can rival it. Top banana.

The Back of Beyond, Reading

Following on from my earlier comments I have since found out the bar manager in question is Emma and have formally written a letter of complaint to Wetherspoon's management. Not only do the previous comments issues hold true but I was also unfortunate enough to witness a severe bout of political in-correctness nigh on racism spewing forth from her lips this last Friday. Tim Martin may tolerate this kind of uncouth foulness but I sir do not!

The Back of Beyond, Reading

Quite easily the rudest and most unprofessional staff of any Wetherspoon's period. I and several colleagues frequented the establishment on a weekday morning only to be kept waiting whilst the female manager and her bespectacled blonde colleague verbally abused a departing patron. I wasn't aware "He needs a good kicking" and the like were part of Tim Martin's training manual and I almost felt I'd mistakenly entered a building site with such colourful language on display. One of my colleagues dared to get served only to be cajoled by some obvious chip-on-shoulder cobblers as the duty manager was partly deaf? Judging by the delay I can only presume she was blind also!
