The Grove Tavern, Walthamstow

Still shut as per this weekend. Bookies opposite still open though and the world still spins on its axis....where do all those schoolkids go on s Saturday aftrenoon now?

The Lord Moon Of The Mall, Whitehall

Fritz my boy. You speak too soon. Tip Top Teutonic Toiling will ne'er darken the Moon's portals for any but the briefest interlude.

No manic Monday but a Slough like Despond for some poor punter waiting 27 minutes (count 'em) to order his Touristy trad pie n' pint. Paradise Regained? nay - Lost and lost for good.

17 Jun 2008 11:03

Walkers of Whitehall, Whitehall

A pub for people who dont like pubs. For civil servants who think theyre classier than the scumbag CS grades like meself who live in the Moon.

Dum Spiro spero? Tested to the max my boozy bretheren. As a card carrying fat beer bore employed by the government one recognises one lack of worth but one can only concur with Fritz and Brainy's bon mots.

I fear the invasion from the eastern marches will be seen, not as a golden age, but as a last dying of the light. Preceeded by the usual Irish and Aussie bar professionals those comely (ex)communist wenches show the current NuLabour detritus for the lazy ill edukated tide that they are. I say to Mr Tim Wetherspoon "Tim - the Moon is a Flagship for your fine microwaved comestibles and quality Olde Englande Alese. This counts for nought when served by the surly SATs-urated effluent of todays yoof. Before 'tis too late return our Moon to its former not-quite-glory. Its like Dunkirk in there without the soldiers and sand but plenty of whingeing Frogs."

The King Edward VII, Stratford

Starford is a $#!thole. This pub is one of only two reasons to visit. the beers good and Ive never seen any bother in here which, considering the area, is a minor miracle.

Nice quiet and relaxed of a weekday evening. if your in Stratford go here - nice.

Leyton Orient Supporter's Club, Leyton

The quality of the beer in here is as good as it gets. Only the best gets on and its always in tip-top condition.

I can only assume Big Bazza Hearn is a real ale afficianado...

14 May 2008 15:45

The Walnut Tree, Leytonstone

This place has the usual 'Spoons problem of understaffing, but apart from that its fine. While not denying that some of the more 'colourful' locals
do pop in its really a bit of a haven from our lovely East End reality show going on outside. Ive never found the staff a problem - most have been fine -

..and I love their microwaved roasts - a bargain

14 May 2008 15:22

The Toby Carvery, Snaresbrook

Dull and crap/no ale when in

14 May 2008 15:16

The Goose, Walthamstow

Back in to meet someone - convenience is its only plus point.

This is the 1st pub you see on arriving in Walthamstow from the Tube or train. If it was knocked down house prices would go up 10% immediately it gives such a crud impression of the area. Why dont the cops/council/camra/style poilce get together to shut this shite hole down?

Beer crap, service crap, and an atmosphere that swings between a dentists waiting room or a UFC gig.

14 May 2008 15:13

The Dukes Head, Walthamstow

A desperate excuse for a pub. Crap beer, sullen service and better when virtually empty because, by Chr!st you dont want to be in there when its full.

Been there 2.5 times. Its local but the best thing about it is that it keeps the dregs out of the Flower Pot & the Plough

14 May 2008 14:44

The Olde Ship Hotel, Seahouses

You just cant fault this pub. Been going there 30 years mainly during the holidays and its always brilliant. Food, beer and atmosphere is A1.

Why God invented pubs

17 Apr 2008 17:45

The Bell, Walthamstow

This is an excellent pub for keeping local scumbags out of better 'Stow establishments - keep it up Bell enders.

17 Apr 2008 17:32

The Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich

Unbeatable location

Unbearable beer

3 Apr 2008 18:31

The Polar Bear, Leicester Square

Interesting to see how this place evolved. I used to vitually live there in the early 80s. Great juke box brilliant Aussie staff and enough 'character' to scare away tourists and amateurs.

For a while the best bar in London.

3 Apr 2008 18:26

The Victoria, Walthamstow

Every time I get dragged in here 75% of the clientele seems to be Irish blokes shouting at each other. This wouldnt be a problem if I could get a decent ale but there never seems to be any on.

The stairs arent exactly a selling point either.

27 Mar 2008 12:44

The Ship and Shovell, Charing Cross

The Sussex Ale is just perfect in here. A great Lunchtime (or anytime) quiet place in the middle of London but tucked away from yer amateur drinkers on the Strand. great place to chill out and talk rubbish.

17 Dec 2007 16:57

The Silver Cross, Whitehall

A vile characterless place and an abomination compared to the dinky little place it replaced a few years back.

Just dire - short pints guaranteed. No No No

17 Dec 2007 16:43

The Cock Tavern, Walthamstow

If you fancy a walk on the wild side get yourself here.

17 Dec 2007 16:28

The Nags Head, Walthamstow

Its good to have this different style of pub locally but its lucky its got zero competion in its chosen target market. If it was located, say, in Greenwich/Blackheath or across in North London it would be out of business.

13 Dec 2007 12:55

The Village, Walthamstow

If you like your ale but dont drink there regularly youve got a bit of a problem as too often they're serving it flat and you could get bored sending it back until you get a decent one. If its your local you know whats good n' bad on whats just gone on but if it was kept properly you wouldnt need that.

The owners must've made a fortune from this busy pub as theres been nowt spent on it in 10 years - not so much as getting the tables varnished/polished.

I like the pub despite this and the landlords disinterest in his ale.

13 Dec 2007 12:47

The William IV, Leyton

Remove the reference to the Micr - its been finished for years. As has decently kept ale. A sad loss to the 'Stow' youre better off crossing the road to the Tescos for a few bottles.

13 Dec 2007 12:22

The Flower Pot, Walthamstow

Great pub to watch the footy in. Service is always friendly and quick. A locals local but no problem if you arent - just dont expect to meet the love of your life in there.

13 Dec 2007 12:17

The Castle, Walthamstow

The pub is miles better since it was done up and the is getting better its just hard to put of finger on why this local doesnt grab me. The layout isnt that clever - it feels a bit impersonal and 'boxy' if its less than half full its a bit hangar like. Service is patchy too. When the foods on its fine and good value but its not often the good elements get together for a good evening.

13 Dec 2007 12:13

The Lord Moon Of The Mall, Whitehall

This pubs really up and down at the moment - there a whole crop of new staff who arent as good looking or on the ball as the previous crew.

The beers have been fine with the usual goodies from breweries thin on the ground in Central London or London full stop.

Shame about the pro-chavs looting the fruit machines though.

12 Dec 2007 16:30

The Lord Brooke, Walthamstow

friendly local but no ale available. big screen and always plenty happening.

3 May 2005 18:07

Crown Posada, Newcastle

Slightly out of the way unless heading for the Quayside but an absolute gem. Worth the effort good beer and cosy as 'owt.

One of the best pubs Ive ever stepped inside

3 May 2005 18:05

The Bodega, Newcastle

Fab pub, great beer and atmosphere especially on match days.

3 May 2005 18:02

The Bootlaces, Walthamstow

No proper beer, but if you are an Irish exile you'll fit just nicely - gaelic/Irish telly sport

3 May 2005 18:01

The Goose, Walthamstow

recent refurb hasnt changed it enough. Beer is so hit and miss IMO avoid

3 May 2005 17:55

The Village, Walthamstow

Quiz has been re-instated for Thursdays at 8.30.

Beer still decent GK IPA Bombardier, Pedigree, Broadside

3 May 2005 17:52

The Plough, Walthamstow

Improving all the time, what with new (independent) owners, a good manager and good quality beer (Fullers - a guest beer wouldnt go amiss),. Good quiz on Sundays and regular music comedy and plays midweek. Got new telly's in for the footy as well.
