Three Cups, Bedford

Good selection of well-kept local beers, good food if you are hungry and plenty of space. Only blot is the fact that it's 20p a pint more expensive that most pubs around!

Burnaby Arms, Bedford

Totally transformed from the last time I went in here a good few years ago. Great selection of beers, friendly and welcoming staff. This is the pub that the Black Tom area has missed for a good few years now. Twinned with The Devonshire Arms in Dudley Street, the two pubs complement each other on either side of the town.

And you can still get a game of darts here...!

The Betjeman Arms, St Pancras International Station

Pretty good stopping off point while waiting for the train. Miles better than the old Shires Bar!!

Hanbury Arms, Caerleon

Decent enough riverside pub, although when the tide is out there's more mud than river to look at! Good selction of well presented and well kept Brains ales with a couple of guests on too. Didn't try the food but it looked pretty good value. Well worth a visit.

McDaids, Dublin

Love it, possibly my favourite pub in the world. Good enough for Brendan Behan, good enough for me!!

Bird in Hand, Bedford

CLOSED- NOW A TESCO :(

The Salamander, Bath

As previously noted, it does look a bit like a shop. I nearly walked past it, but was really glad I didn't.

The Raven, Bath

Excellent pub in the city centre. Good selection of well kept beers (tried them all!) and a good mix of customers. Seems the job description for the bar staff is to have a 'distinctive' hairstyle too... Recommended, well worth a visit!

The Cross Keys, Aldeburgh

Sadly a long way from the excellent pub I first visited in the early 80s. Beer is overpriced and not well kept. The last few times I've been in (in the vague hope it's improved) it's been virtually empty. Those empty seats ought to be telling them something! As suffolkfan says, try the White Hart instead.

The Cock, Broom

Proving that you don't need that new-fangled invention the bar, The Cock is a real throwback to the days when everything came straight from the cask! Serve a decent pint of GK (as perviously noted this can be a challenge).

Worth seeking out !

The Devonshire Arms, Bedford

Under new management, but the Devvy remains a great place to meet. The pool table TVs and juke box have gone and been replaced by softer lighting and candles. Martin and Naomi are welcoming and have expanded the selection of beers, which are well kept and reasonably priced. A different experience but one well worth seeking out!

Wheatsheaf, Flitwick

Looks like the last 'wet' pub in town. Friendly staff and a decent pint, worth a visit!

27 Feb 2011 21:44

The Engine and Tender, Ampthill

Decent enough local boozer, worth a visit (especially if you want to watch Rugby on the TV!)

27 Feb 2011 21:41

The Albion, Ampthill

Having lived most of my life in Ampthill, The Albion used to be the last pub you'd visit. However, since the revamp, it has become a haven for the beer drinker. As noted by others, a version of Bedford's Wellington Arms (but tidier!) and therefore a very good thing indeed... Looks like they will be starting Beer Festivals too!

The Hare and Hounds, St Albans

Decent pub, good selection of well kept beers. Worth a visit.

27 Feb 2011 21:33

The Glass House, St Albans

Much better than it was now it's the Victoria. Beer is nicely kept and the staff are friendly. Not a bad stopping off point on the way to the station!

27 Feb 2011 21:31

The Lord Nelson, Southwold

One of my favourite pubs. Superb beers, superbly kept. Very good Sunday lunches (that's why there's a queue at opening time on Sundays!). Always my first port of call when in Southwold.

The Oxford Bar, Edinburgh

Great pub, good beer and an ideal haven from the Edinburgh Festival madness!

23 Jul 2010 16:26

The Wellington Arms, Bedford

Best selection of beers in the best pub in Bedford. Enough said!

23 Jul 2010 16:21

The White Horse, Bedford

Bland decor, a bit like drinking in an airport bar. Beer is usually reasonably looked after with at least one guest ale on. As others have said, not the best pub in town, but by no means the worst either.

23 Jul 2010 16:20

Waterend Barn, St Albans

Not a place to go for a beer in the evening unless you like loud music! Too many 'Available Soon' signs on the pumps but what they do have on is usually pretty well kept. The regular beer festivals are worth seeking out with a good choice.

23 Jul 2010 16:11

The Six Bells, St Albans

Cracking pub, excellent beer selection and quality. If only it was closer to the station!!

23 Jul 2010 16:07

The Devonshire Arms, Bedford

Great little back street/community boozer. Wells Eagle and a guest ale always on, Bombardier less often but the beer is well kept.
