The Ship Inn, Helston

Now reopened with new owners. It is now very much food orientated and good quality food at that. Had a meal here a couple of weeks ago and it was top notch. Now here is an interesting thing, not only was the food excellent but so was the beer. In my experience you can have one or the other, but here you get both. Although it is now food orientated you are still welcome if you just want a drink, some locals were in when we were there. Booking for food seems to be essential. Try the potion No9.

Atlantic Inn, St Mary's

I was interested to see the previous comments on this pub because my experience was very similar. We were in this pub at the end of May. We ordered our food and sat down at our table. After 45 minutes nothing had happened so I went to the bar and asked the young man what was going on, he said our food would be along shortly. The strange thing we noticed was that people who arrived after us were being served. Eventually our food arrived after just over an hour and I think my wife's fish had been cooking for the entire time we had been waiting, it was totally dried out. I had Scillonian fish pie and I had fun looking for the fish. When the plates were cleared we were asked if everything was OK I pointed out that it was not and the waiter said that he would tell the chef. I'm never quite sure what the point of that is because if the chef cared he would not send out food of that standard in the first place. A bad experience.

The Ship Inn, Helston

At last a pub that thinks it is still part of the local community. It sells good local ales in excellent condition and good reasonably priced food. The annual beer festival that coincides with Mawgan feast week should not be missed. Occasional live music from local bands is always a good evening out as are the quiz nights. Long may it continue.

The Shipwright Arms, Helford Village

We called in on this pub last week on bank holiday Monday for a drink. We decided to give the food a miss due to the prices. The place gives the impression of being totally neglected as the previous reviewer noted. Also in the previous report was a description of the ladies loo, I can report that nearly a month later they are exactly the same, so not much effort being put in to that area. On the bright side the Betty Stoggs was in great condition. Incidentally you can get good reasonably priced food in the cafe near the car park.

The Blue Anchor, Helston

Went here last week and the Bragget, Middle and Special were spot on. Plenty of friendly locals and dogs in the bar, what a great place. I was a little worried about taking my visitors as I have read some less than flattering reviews in the past, but from my latest experience it just does not get better than this.

The Three Tuns, St Keverne

Spent a great evening here yesterday (Thursday). Four real ales on and all were OK. The pub was very busy with friendly locals playing Euchre and darts. Did not try food so could not give full points, but it looked OK. A great evening and I will return.
