The Tiger Inn, Stowting

The locals tell me it's known for its food and owned by a co-operative of villagers who eanted to keep it open. Well done to them. Lots of well-scrubbed wood and pleasant staff. ALl-round a lovely atmosphere. Super country pub.

The Black Horse, Monks Horton

Dropped by off the North Downs Way. Pricey food, supercilious landlord and bizarre layout. What's behind the manky old curtain that is drawn across most of the bar?

The Five Bells, East Brabourne

It's the sort of place that you take your parents or the children. Decent food at decent prices. Yes, they could be more exciting with their ale selection. Pauline (landlady) is a delight and always friendly and welcoming, especially with children.

The Bowl Inn, Charing

Popped by with a bunch of friends and by chance found we'd arrived on the day of the beer festival. Well done, the Bowl. Rows and rows of barrels, loads of people (300ish). Keep it up.

The George Inn, Egerton

Looks like a village pub that has been turned into a cheap restaurant. Won't be back.

The Bell Inn, Smarden

A bunch of us went out to show our support for some country pubs. Ordered three bowls of chips and thought it pleasant if we could make our own butties - but refused to pay 5 for 10 slices of flat white bread. Shepherd Neame will kill this place.

Black Horse, Pluckley

What should be a lovely country pub in a lovely village but seems to have a flat and rather unpleasant atmosphere. A scowling female behind the bar and what appeared to be a licensee on the punters' side of the bar - drinking. He just kept glaring at us - obviously unhappy about having a group of men whom he didn't know come in. Never going back. It's not just the fault of the duty tax on beer that pubs are suffering. They suffer because of people like these idiots.
