Vernon Arms, Liverpool

No flash stuff, just honest beers served by nice people.
A decent selection of grub to go with your pint and not expensive.
Worth dropping in to try at least a couple of jars.

The White Hart, Billericay

Alas, another faller. A fine pub with some good beer but not what enough people want these days.

The Pot Still, Glasgow

Brilliant little pub that offers great beers and hospitality. A small but very reasonably priced range of food (I loved the Scotch pies) and more whisky than you could dream of tasting in a dozen visits. I must visit for me when I am next in Glasgow.

The Zetland Arms, Kingsdown

Firstly, a pub for me is about the beer. In this respect a very nice pint of Whitstable Bay bitter was enough to keep me at the Zetland for a couple of jars and some food. Lunch was good value for money and a fine example of pub grub. A mention to for the bar staff who, although busy, were friendly and efficient. All in all a great find and worth the walk or drive. I shallc ertainly head back there given the opportunity.

The Duke of Cumberland, Edford

A really great treat to find this gem of a pub. Commendable selection of drinks (both beers, ciders and non-alcoholic) with my Butcombe Bitter being served to perfection. Add to that some interesting and well cooked food at a very reasonable price and this pub should attract anyone who enjoys their pint/grub or a sociable outing. The staff completed the happy picture being welcoming, polite and efficient.

The Old Ship Inn, Lowdham

A good pint and plenty of other options for those wanting alcoholic refreshment or those on the straight & narrow. Friendly welcome and good, well priced food.

The Trigger Pond, Bucknell

A recent Friday lunchtime visit was a very pleasing experience. Excellent beer (alas just the one pint) which accompanied a very tasty lunch. Lots of selection and reasonably priced. The staff are also worth a mention as too often a location, beer etc are let down by the people behind the bar. Not here, they were friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

The Starling, Pinner

For better or worse, currently closed. Appears to be undergoing a transformation into something new. Time will tell if that is a good thing or not.

The Gardeners Arms, Brentwood

Hasn't changed much since it was a mid-week watering hole back in the late 70s. Whatever happened to Howard the barman who never went home and would always have time for a chat?

The Three Tuns, Uxbridge

Nice place to sup a good beer. The staff there when I visited were efficient and friendly which always adds something to a session. Handy for the tube afterwards as a wobbled out.

The Railway Hotel, Billericay

I used to drink more IPA than was good for me a few years back when Sue and Tony were there. My recent pint was not bad but the place does seem to have lost that eclectic mix and atmosphere. Maybe I'm just getting old. Still I bet it's better than the Mayflower...
