Cafe Bar Contemporary, Nottingham

Have been here twice now. Nice food but a bit overpriced for the portion sizes. Food is served on weird slate platters. They really need to get some more highchairs. They only have 2 highchairs for quite a large eating area with lots of families. On the most recent visit we managed to find a highchair only to be told by the management that it had been reserved by another family, who had arrived after us, and the chair was promptly taken away! They also need to sort out the heating of baby food: they seem to think it safer to provide a cannister (a wine cooler) of boiling water for you to fish the baby food in/out of than put the baby food in their microwave for 20 seconds! They (jokingly) said that they food would turn radioative if it was put in their microwave: not very funny!

The Fox House Inn, Longshaw

Had a meal in this pub in 2007 and had a pleasant time. Went back today (June 2010) and had a terrible meal. The service was atrocious and very surly, and the food was very poor. While waiting for 15 minutes to pay we found out that we weren't the only customers to have had this experience. We understand that in 2009 this place went into new ownership and it looks to me as though it is quickly going downhill. Don't waste your time going here.

The Star Inn, Harome

Agree totally with craigstardrinker. The barman was very rude to us in a similar way. The food was nice but a bit pretentious. They probably get a lot of custom because of the Michelin star rating. However, if you're prepared to look you can find some much nicer, lesser known pubs around the area, with better, more honest food and pleasant service.

The Leathern Bottle, Lewknor

Very friendly pub, quite small and gets very busy during lunchtime, but lovely food and beer. Quite restrictive serving times. Very good pub to remember if you're travelling on the M40 and need lunch (when the pub is serving). Small play area in the garden for kiddies and fairly child-friendly but no baby-changing facilities.

Englands Rose, Postcombe

Bless the owners who are very obliging and friendly, however, the food is absolutely awful and we felt a little like we were taking our health into our own hands, especially as we had a young child with us. The tables are dirty with greasy dust and old food and the carpets need a really good vacuum: actually the whole place needs a clean. The beer (London Pride) was off, the owner gladly replaced it but had lost the taste for it by then.

Ye Olde Bulls Head, Woodhouse Eaves

An okay pub if you want a meal and don't want to think about it very much. Average beers and average food: nothing to get excited about. For the size of the place (large) they have arranged the tables very poorly so that you feel you have to keep moving your chair for people sitting behind you to have enough space, which then means you don't have enough space. Some of the staff are very unsmiling. Not overly child-friendly and they won't heat baby food (even shop-bought unopened).

The Neville Arms, Kinoulton

A very nice pub serving good food. Very helpful and child-friendly. It's got a great garden with a play area for the children.

The Plough Inn, Hickling

A lovely pub which we stumbled upon. Really tasty simple food, locally sourced meat and vegetables, very child friendly and extremely helpful. Four rooms for drinking/eating in: one formal dining room, one lounge room with sofas, one small nook room with bar tables, and up the stairs to the upper bar with bar tables and an open fire. This was where we sat and felt that this was the most inviting room where most socialising was going on. It was lovely and warm throughout the pub (great for a really cold dank day) and we went out for a nice walk afterwards along the nearby Grantham Canal. The beer (London Pride) was well cared for and very tasty. Wish this was my local!
