Ye Olde Monken Holt, Barnet

Best pub in the area by a country mile and much improved since the Irish guy was put in charge. Popped in last Sunday for their weekly jam night and the place was rammed. (Talent varies but usually a good mix). The food is worth trying, always fresh and very reasonable.
No idea what the previous reviewer is on about. They must be confusing a roll-up with a spliff because the staff here have eyes like hawks and you'd never get away with smoking anything illegal in their garden. Very kid friendly during the day.

The Lord Nelson, Barnet

Hidden away, rather eccentric, definitely a local pub for local people. Nautical themed oddities, a pub cat (or two, and a dog I think), plus a collection of salt and pepper shakers. Not your average boozer then but worth a visit just to have a look at the place. Food smelt a bit school dinnery but seemed to be going down well with the regulars. Ale was alright.

The Alexandra, Barnet

No idea how this place survives. It seems to have about 10 regulars who treat it as their living room. Harmless though. Needs a refurb inside and now appears to be up for sale.

The Bull and Last, Gospel Oak

Not really a pub. Food is good but jesus, you pay for it. Agree with sidneyh about the clientele - straight out of a Boden catalogue or just back from a gap yah. Staff mixed - some nice, some think they're too cool to serve. Drinks pricey to match the grub but ale was in good condition. Come for dinner (if someone else is paying) but for a proper pub head down the hill to the Southampton Arms, if there's room.

The Oxford, Kentish Town

Useful if you're going to the Forum. Nearly walked out after waiting to be served for far too long. (The oh-so-trendy guy behind the boy was busy trying to impress local ladies with his knowledge of underground indie bands. Jesus wept.) Food looked good if a little overpriced for what it is.

The Lamb and Flag, Marylebone

Hugely busy thanks to location but an unimpressive beer selection. Like a lot of pubs in the West End, it doesn't have to try hard to pull people in so it doesn't bother. We sat upstairs to avoid the pavement crowds and the food looked alright. Fine for a quick one but you wouldn't settle in for the night.

The Hog in the Pound, Bond Street

Good if you need to escape Oxford St but still more barn than boozer. Beer in good condition but toilets need attention, they are grim. Downstairs preferable to upstairs.

The Kings Arms, Fitzrovia

Popped in here for a swift one before dinner. The place was packed with local media types and students. It is grubby and the place looks like it could do with a proper refurb to be honest, but as I said it was rammed so why would they bother? I did like the copper plated till though. Full marks to the staff who held on to something I left behind for a week, very kind.

The Earl of Camden, Camden

Sizeable place so it was easy to get a seat mid-week. Preferred it to the Spread Eagle across the road. Staff on the ball and helpful.

The Spread Eagle, Camden

Beer is in good condition but apart from that this place is bog standard. Inside is soulless, as others have said, so grab a seat outside if you can. (Tough call between breathing in stale pub smell or Parkway traffic fumes). Spirits seemed a bit pricey compared to local competition to me.
