Richard I, Greenwich

Probably the worst Pub we have ever been to in Greenwich, young girl behind the Bar didn't have a clue how to pull a Pint, and kept asking the Landlady ( I presume ) for some help, but she was too busy filling her face with food at the end of the Bar to help her. Quite embarrasing to be a customer in here TBH.....The place was filthy all round, and as soon as my Wife came back from the Toilets, said lets get out of here, I'm not drinking in this shithole, so we left, and I wouldn't be surprised if that poor girl is STILL trying to pull a Pint......AVOID.......

30 Dec 2016 21:30

The Split Chimp, Newcastle

What a crazy name for a Pub......" Split Chimp ".......obviously I've never been there, but just wondered where the name came from......Anybody Know.........

11 Nov 2016 18:04

The Cricketers, Swansea

Another set of " For Sale / To Let " signs up on this Pub nowdays, only saw them today, so don't know how long they have been there, but its a sad state of affairs that SO many of Swansea's Pubs are in decline, and in the same state of limbo as this once famous Pub......

22 Jun 2016 22:35

Smokin' Dog, Swansea

Been called "The Mill " for a long time now, but never been very popular at all. So it's no surprise to see it closed down again, and once again up for Sale/ Let......Don't think this place has long left as a Pub in fact, as the whole area of Bryn-Y_Mor Road, is becoming more and more run down every Day, which is a shame.......

15 Jun 2016 21:52

The Cricketers, Swansea

Seems I may have written this Pub's obituary in my last comment here, as I arranged to meet an old friend in here this Friday, only to be told that the last Tenants left over the weekend, and the Pub is now closed again, and has now been sold, and its not going to be a Pub anymore, so they had no future there. Looks like another famous Swansea Pub is about to be lost forever, if those stories turn out to be true........

16 Mar 2016 19:16

The Cricketers, Swansea

Well, I've been told this Pub is up and running again and " Under New Management " which seems to be a constant thing nowdays. How long it will stay open though is anyone's guess, in fact I'm amazed its still a Pub, as its closed more often than its open, and that usually means it gets sold, and turned into Flats.......

28 Feb 2016 21:02

The Cricketers, Swansea

Sadly, this Pub has been closed for a couple of weeks now, and it looks like the last Tenants have left the place in a bit of a mess outside. The beer garden is a disgrace, so God knows what its like inside........

8 Jan 2016 22:08

The Cricketers, Swansea

Looks like the latest Owners / Licensee's have lost interest in this Pub already, seems to be closed most Days, and talking to a couple of people that live locally, they sometimes open at about 5pm, even on weekends, so it looks like this Pub will be closed again soon, as it certainly isn't very popular nowdays.......

22 Nov 2015 18:32

The Handpost, Newport

Sad to read the bad reviews on this Pub, I spent many happy times in The Handpost and The Three Salmons, way back in the mid 90's when I was a Student up there, living in Bassaleg, they were our favourite Pubs at the time, both Ansells Pubs too, if I remember correctly.......

17 Sep 2015 22:16

The Cricketers, Swansea

Just re-opened again, with new people in there again. Wonder how long they will last, this Pub seems to open and close on a regular basis nowdays. Good Luck to them.....

14 Sep 2015 18:11

The Cricketers, Swansea

Went past this Pub last night ( Friday ) about 9pm, on our way to the Patti Raj, and the doors were closed, and all the Curtains pulled shut, no sign of life at all. So, it looks like this Pub has closed down again.......

1 Aug 2015 17:14

The Cricketers, Swansea

Glad to hear that Alex, the place has been a total shambles and a filthy disgrace of a good Pub for Years now. Hopefully the new people will make a go of it now......

14 May 2015 22:07

The Cricketers, Swansea

Well, we were in Swansea toady to watch the rugby at St.Helens, and decided to call in here to see what its like nowdays, and TBH it was a total shock to see the mess all around this Pub, beds and mattress outside on the main road, the curtains inside the Pub looked like they hadn't been changed / washed for Years, and the rear Beer Garden was full of rubbish and seemed totally neglected forever, the Pub was closed ( AGAIN ) and I really think this once famous Pub is not going to be around for much longer.........

4 Apr 2015 16:45

The Wig, Swansea

Currently offering the following :: Guinesss @£1 per pint....Fosters @ £1 per pint.. Amstel @£1 per pint.......This is a Pub that is seriously struggling to attract any trade at all nowdays. Not quite sure what type of clientelle will be turning up to take advantage of those offers myself.........

16 Feb 2015 22:01

St George Public House, Swansea

Looks like its closed again, and looking pretty scruffy outside nowdays too, couple of skips outside today when I drove past, but don't know if the rubbish inside them came from the Pub. How very sad all round........

15 Feb 2015 22:37

The Wig, Swansea

Well, this place has had a massive refurb lately by Enterprise Inns, and in all fairness it looks quite nice inside nowdays, but we called in there Friday night on the way home, and the place was totally empty, which was a bit of a shock. So, went over to the Westbourne and it was very busy in there, and a great atmosphere too, so I can't recommend the new " Wig " at all......

31 Jan 2015 21:53

Villiers Arms, Swansea

Didn't know this Pub was still trading, every time I drive past in the afternoon, its always closed. Looks a bit dark and dingy too.......

15 Jan 2015 22:26

The George, London Bridge

What a strange Pub, but in a nice way, its a bit like a maze inside with rooms and bars all over the place, and I know its a VERY old place, and it shows with uneven floors, and stairs which are weird to get up, BUT what a lovely atmosphere on the Saturday night we called in, it was really busy with the beer garden totally packed, and people all over the place just having a drink and really enjoying themselves ( total contrast to the Barrow Boy Pub we had just left ) which was lovely. We stayed for a couple of hours and had a great time all round........

21 Dec 2014 22:02

The Barrowboy and Banker, London Bridge

Was going to call in this Pub recently to meet a friend on a visit to London, but a large group of football fans came marching up the street, chanting and cheering and walked straight in here, and to be honest, they were quite intimidating, and there was a volatile atmosphere developing, so we just left, and our friend who lives locally said it was better not going in there on football match days.......

21 Dec 2014 21:54

The Mumbles Pier Hotel, Mumbles

Sadly, this once busy Pub is now a " Gift Shop "..........

23 Nov 2014 21:35

The Pilot, Mumbles

Strange comment by Mumbles 1 below I thought, if he likes it so much up the Park Inn, and Mumbles Ale House, why doesn't he just stay up there and drink in those Pubs, rather than complain about Richard at the Pilot, whom I've always found very hospitable........

19 Nov 2014 21:54

The Pilot, Mumbles

Called in here recently for the first time in a while, and what a lovely Pub all round nowdays, excellent service, great beer selection, pleasant atmosphere. Great to see this Pub open again and doing so well........

19 Nov 2014 21:49

Bryn Y Mor, Swansea

Just been awarded a 5 star rating, so the sign says outside the Pub, still not sure if that is enough to tempt me back into this place, after the poor service and terrible food I've had in here over the Years........

19 Nov 2014 21:23

The Bay View, Swansea

I cannot see just why Dogs SHOULD be allowed into a Pub / Restuarant..........

19 Nov 2014 21:19

St George Public House, Swansea

I agree with pubperson, this Pub has had so many different Landlords lately, and sadly none of them just didn't have a clue how to run it. The Pub is becoming another building destined to be a block of flats soon, which is a shame, but it seems to be the way a lot of Pubs in Swansea are going nowdays........

17 Nov 2014 22:00

The Wig, Swansea

Currently closed down, and it looks like this Pub is having another complete make over, not sure if that is going to make any difference though, as it seems to fail to attract any customers, no matter what they do here......

17 Nov 2014 18:10

The Village Inn, Mumbles

Well Sahlou.....
If you think the Business is such a great inverstment, why don't you put your money where your mouth is, and buy the damn place, as you seem to be in love with it....
BTW ...Your comment that it needs a couple " who have the energy to run it to it's full potential " is actually saying that its NOT as busy as you think it should be, which is MORE negative that anything I have written....and will probably upset the owner Sue ( if she is still there ).......

1 Jan 2014 20:15

The Gate Clock, Greenwich

Called in here a couple of weeks ago on a Sunday, and it was a total eye opener for a Greenwich Pub, it was full of pissed people, who seemed to have been there all day, some drunks sleeping in the corners, and a really BAD atmosphere, in fact it was quite intimidating, so we just walked straight back out as quick as we could.......

22 Dec 2013 18:37

The Sawyers Arms, Paddington

Well Folks......

Not been in this Pub since my last comment on here which was a while back, but we walked past here recently and noticed new beer tables outside, and a very attractive Xmas display in the windows, so as we had a few Hours to wait for our Train back home, decided to give it another try, and I must admit, I was glad we did. The place has changed beyond belief inside, and it is now spotless everywhere, with a lovely pleasant atmosphere all round, and a great selection of food, which we tried, and everything about this Pub, is a 100% improvement since our last visit. Highly Recommended indeed nowdays.......

28 Nov 2013 18:31

The Village Inn, Mumbles

Closed when we drove past last Saturday afternoon, and a big " For Sale / To Let " sign on the front of the building. Looks like another Pub in Mumbles has closed down......

6 Oct 2013 21:32

The Wig, Swansea

Just changed hands AGAIN after the last Licensee went bust, so we have another new owner here nowdays, serving mainly Portugese Food. Got a funny feeling he won't last long, as this place is becoming a " White Elephant " all round......

5 Oct 2013 20:17

The Yacht, Greenwich

Well, thats a real shame to read the last comment about this Pub, as we are coming up to Greenwich in November for a leisurely weekend with friends, and were looking forward to a nice meal and pleasant atmosphere here, whilst looking over the Thames.........

21 Sep 2013 19:24

First In Last Out, Winchester

BTW ....

For all you people that seem to want this Pub to fail, or are even GLAD to have it closed down, have you actually thought what will happen if it does close down. It will probably be boarded up for a few Months, Years even, and become an eyesore on the Winchester scene. Then will probably be sold at Auction for a trivial amount of money to a Property Developer, and turned into a block of Flats, or an Indian Restuarant......

You have been warned........

26 Jul 2013 21:28

First In Last Out, Winchester

I see the cynics have already been on here to applaud the the failure of this Pub, which I find a shame, because at the end of the day, the owner John Sweeney ( like him or hate him ) has tried his best to keep the place open, and serve people like contractors, which were his bread and butter, and I'm sure they had good rates there too for their B and B stay, and there was certainly a need for this type of place in Winchester. I totally admire John Sweeney for his honesty and down to earth confessions in last night's episode of the " Hotel Inspector " ......

Well done John, good on you........

26 Jul 2013 20:50

The Wig, Swansea

Just re-opened recently, with a new Licensee at the helm, I've not been in here, but at least its up and running again. So good luck to the new Licensee.........

12 Apr 2013 18:18

The Pilot, Mumbles

Great to hear this Pub has re-opened, and I saw a fantastic article in the local " Evening Post " newspaper recently, which hopefully will be a boost for their trade here. The pictures on this site now make it look VERY nice indeed too, might be worth a visit over the Bank Holiday, methinks.......

Good Luck to Richard and Jo........

31 Mar 2013 14:41

The Wig, Swansea

Seems like this Pub has now closed down again recently, which doesn't suprise me at all, as its been struggling for a while.......

27 Mar 2013 14:28

The Cricketers, Swansea

Drove past here this afternoon, and it was closed again, with a couple of " Pub To Let " signs up on either side of the Building. Seems like another change of Owner / Landlord is about to happen to this place soon. Shame to see this once famous and popular Pub in such disarray nowdays......

29 Jan 2013 20:12

Kings Head Hotel, Treboeth

Never been in this Pub before, and to be honest, won't be going back here again either. We called in on a Thursday afternoon recently, and the service was total chaos all round, there was a Funeral Wake in the Bar side of the Pub, and there was only ONE till in operation in the whole building, so the staff were rushing back and forth the Restuarant to use the till in there, then back to the Bar with change, which was comical in fact, not the staffs fault IMHO, we waited about 20 minutes to get served and walked out after that. Probably the most useless Managed Pub I have been in lately, cannot see how they expect to get repeat custom with service like this......

17 Aug 2012 18:01

Trafalgar Tavern, Greenwich

Excellent post there indeed TWG and probably what I was really trying to say. Nice One......

8 Aug 2012 21:39

The Gipsy Moth, Greenwich

Perhaps someone from the Gypsy Moth's senior management has read the comments on here, and done something about the staffs attitude toward the customers there......

29 Jul 2012 08:44

Vivian, Sketty

Was dragged in here recently against my better protests, and to be honest, it was O.K for a drink, but certainly not a Pub I would like to spend much time in. Strange atmosphere all round, and it seems like a very " clique " type of place, so if you are in with the crowd, its probably a good Pub, if not ( like me ) its a place to avoid.......

27 Jul 2012 18:21

The Pilot, Mumbles

Been closed for a while now, with no sign of it re-opening either, big " For Sale " outside nowdays too. Another Pub in the centre of Mumbles bites the dust by the look of it, which is a shame all round.......

25 Jul 2012 07:02

Trafalgar Tavern, Greenwich

Last Pub we visited on our recent trip to Greenwich, and only went there because of the mention of the " historic " maritime value of its contents, and to be honest I wish we hadn't bothered, as its just another " tourist rip off " Pub on the Thames, with extortionate Drink and Food prices. Horrible staff, terrible atmosphere inside the place too, arrogant customers outside being loud and offensive to each other, and making customers feel uneasy. Can't believe this Pub is mentioned in tourists guides. I can't think of a single reason to recommend this place.....

16 Jul 2012 22:48

The Gipsy Moth, Greenwich

I totally agree with the previous comments, firstly that is really is a tourists Pub, and secondly that the customer service needs a LOT of improvement all round. We waited ages to get served a couple of Drinks here, and then, after making enquiries about the food arrangements, and where to sit ( as it was packed ) were told they didn't have time to pander to everyone, just go and sit down somewhere, and come back when you are ready, needles to say we didn't eat there, just had the one drink and left, never to return...........

16 Jul 2012 10:17

The Yacht, Greenwich

Called in here on Saturday 14 July, about 6:30pm, after visting the Cutty Sark, and some other visitor attractions around the Greenwich area, we found it by accident really, after wandering in off the narrow street on which it is situated, and liked the atmosphere in here immediately, nice happy crowd at the Bar and another crowd up the steps looking out over the Thames, music was just about the right level too. We sat in the Dining Room area, which is clearly set out, and the window tables have a great view over the Thames, and we sat in one of those. Staff were extremely helpful and very pleasant when we ordered our Meals at the Bar, and they were then brought out pretty quickly, and were both excellent indeed, the drinks were not expensive, and neither was the food. So we stayed a LOT longer than we thought, and just enjoyed chatting about where we had just visited, and looking out at the superb view on offer here. Great Pub all round in my opinion, and well worth a visit if you are in the area.......

16 Jul 2012 09:53

The Wig, Swansea

Well, having bumped into a friend who lives quite close to this Pub, I may be able to answer my own question here, as posted previously. Seems like the so called celeberity Chef " Anton " has upped and left this place, and the Menu now just consists of basic Pub Grub, which probably means the " Gastro " menu failed miserably, and now they are offering a " Buy One, Get One Free " offer through the week, to try and attract some trade into this Pub nowdays, not sure for how long the offer is on for though........

7 Jul 2012 21:43

The Vulcan Hotel, Cardiff

Very Sad News indeed, as this Pub has been a landmark in Cardiff for MANY Years, the like of which will probably be never seen again........

21 Jun 2012 22:24

The Wig, Swansea

Well, having called in here three times in the last 2 weeks with local friends, I have to say its a very pleasant Pub all round, the staff are friendly, the prices are reasonable, and it has a nice atmosphere too. I just cannot understand just why it was EMPTY every afternoon. Nobody eating here, and hardly anyone drinking in here, apart from us. Anybody know why !!!!!.....

Surely this Pub cannot survive much longer with no trade.......

16 Jun 2012 18:12

The Mad Bishop and Bear, Paddington

Called in here for the first time recently, after our Train was delayed for an Hour or so, and was pleasantly suprised how nice it was all round. Great idea to have the Train Timetables on display as you go in, made our stay a lot more interesting in fact. Reasonable prices, friendly staff, and a nice atmosphere all round. Next time we are in Paddington Station, we will probably call in here again, whilst waiting for a train departure.......

14 Feb 2012 21:38

The Wig, Swansea

Well, I hope you are right there Scombes, as we gave the place another try on last Monday, early evening, and it was totally empty in there, and as you know its a BIG Pub to fill, and will indeed take a LOT of marketing to get the place bouncing again. There was an offer for January on the chalkboard outside saying, any Pasta dish for 4:95, between 12-5, and a Sunday Carvery ( no price though ) with Chef Anton too. Lets hope people start taking advantage of these offers soon, as it really IS a nice Pub inside nowdays, and should be a LOT busier than it is..........

11 Jan 2012 19:10

The Wig, Swansea

In response to the below post, I'm not sure if they have dropped their Drinks prices, since I first posted my comments, as those prices DO seem reasonable, and even cheaper as you say than the surrounding Pubs. However MANY people I have spoken to, think the food menu to be expensive, and have said they probably won't return due to this. In fact four of us called in the Pub on Xmas Eve, and the place was EMPTY, no one eating there, and only a few people in the Bar side of the Pub, in contrast to the Westbourne, which was packed with people eating and drinking, in fact it was SO busy, that we couldn't get served, and came down to the Wig to give it another try, but didn't stay, as it was SO quiet, we strolled up to the Bryn Y Mor instead, which was also packed, as was The Mill opposite, which is the way all Pubs SHOULD be on Xmas Eve. So I wonder just why the Wig was so quiet on Xmas Eve, as its a really nice pub inside nowdays !!!!!.........

3 Jan 2012 08:47

The Abergavenny Arms Hotel, Frant

Wonder if this Pub/ Restuarant will be on the " Hotel Inspector " series on Channel 5 soon, if not, I think someone should recommend it !!!!!......

2 Jan 2012 22:20

Westbourne Hotel, Swansea

Drove past here this Morning about 11:45am ish, and noticed a large queue of people waiting for the Pub to open, which has to be a good sign nowdays. Obviously the owners of this Pub are doing a lot of the right things to attract customers waiting for it to open on a cold and chilly Sunday Morning. Well Done indeed........

18 Dec 2011 16:36

The Wig, Swansea

Just re-opened, but have VERY high prices on their food menu. The drinks aren't cheap either, not sure if they have done their research on the surrounding Pubs / Restuarants actually. Not going to be busy, unless they come down to reality, methinks.......

27 Nov 2011 22:09

The Rhyddings Hotel, Brynmill

Seems like nothing has changed in this Pub, going by the recent comments posted. What a shame all round, as this was an excellent student Pub in my day , and was THE place to meet, and was packed EVERY night of the week!!!!....

2 Nov 2011 19:35

The Wig, Swansea

Sadly, this Pub has been closed for a couple of weeks now, with no signs of re-opening soon. Another sign of the times in the Pub trade I suppose......

26 Oct 2011 22:39

Bryn Y Mor, Swansea

Just re-opened after a major re-furbishment ( which it desperately needed ) so perhaps it will be a better Pub all round nowdays.Time will tell on that one I suppose. Hopefully they have a new Manager there too.....

4 Sep 2011 21:08

The Village Inn, Mumbles

BTW samc325, the term " Mumbles Luvellies " is not directed at you. Its a generalisation of all the " posers " that wander round Mumbles, thinking they are something special, and Boy, have I met a few of them over the Years !!!!.........

13 Aug 2011 18:26

The Village Inn, Mumbles

Looks like sam325 and sahlou, are having tantrums because of my comments on here. Oh well, one of those thing I suppose. Luckily, I don't need or want to go down to their precious Pub there in Mumbles, and hopefully they both fit in well, with the rest of the clique in there........

13 Aug 2011 17:23

The Village Inn, Mumbles

Well sahlou, I think if you read my post again carefully, I was NOT just refering to the Village Inn, I stated that perhaps ALL Pubs in Mumbles close on a Monday, even if its a sunny Day, and there were people everywhere, as I thought the Pubs would need the trade, but there we go, perhaps they don't, which is why more and more of them are closed down, or up for sale.........

I'm quite happy you enjoy it in the Village Inn, we just have to agree to disagree on our opinions on the place really, even if you think my comments are pointless and vindictive, Eh !!!!.......

2 Jul 2011 18:37

The Village Inn, Mumbles

Seems like sahlou, has a bit of an issue with my posts on here, and seems to want to provoke an argument, which is just stupid, and as I have just stated, I post comments on my personal experience, and that is what this site is about.......

The slogan above, tells you to NOT take them too seriously .........

30 Jun 2011 23:11

The Village Inn, Mumbles

I have absolutely NO grudge with Sue at all, and have never been employed by her either. I also am NOT interested in trying to ruin her business either, that is the last thing I implied here with my comments. As I have stated before, they are just observations, no more, no less.........

I'm glad to read that other members are enjoying the Pub nowdays......

30 Jun 2011 19:29

The Pub On The Pond, Swansea

Just re-opened after a major refurbishment, and are now going under the banner of the " Fair and Square " group. Seem to be offering VERY cheap meals almost from day one, and a " Kids eat Free " offer too. I've not been in here yet, so cannot comment on the place, but they are advertising heavily locally nowdays......

13 Feb 2011 21:50

The Pub On The Pond, Swansea

Walked past here this afternoon, and was suprised to see it had closed down, not sure how long its been shut though, or if it was closed for a refurbishment. Certainly no signs of life here today.......

25 Jan 2011 19:40

The Victoria Inn, Mumbles

Just been bought privately, if the rumours are to be believed, and the previous landlady ( Amanda Garstang ) is set to run the place once more, which is probably a good move by the new owners. Seems like this Pub may have got a new lease of life again, which is great to see nowdays, with so many Pubs closed all over the Country. Nice to see one re-opening again, methinks......

15 Jan 2011 15:57

The Village Inn, Mumbles

Well, I take it that comment below is directed at me from samc325, and really doesn't warrant a reply, but just to satisfy your curiousity, I HAVE run many Pubs, Clubs and Restuarants, and have been a FULL Member of the B.I.I. ( ask Sue what that is ) for 15 Years, so I do know what I am talking about, and my comments on here are just observations. No more, no less.......

8 Jan 2011 21:57

The Stanhope Arms, Kensington

Walked in, and then straight back out. Not a very pleasant atmosphere in here at all on the night we called in......
Strolled down the road to the" Hereford " and found a completely different feel all round, probably says it all actually......

23 Dec 2010 23:38

The Hereford Arms, South Kensington

Called in here recently on the recommendation of a friend of ours, who told us it was a friendly pub, with superb food, and she was right. We spent a pleasant 2 Hours in here, and had a fabulous meal, some lovely, reasonably priced drinks, and the service was excellent too. Well worth a visit IMHO Folks......

23 Dec 2010 18:43

St George Public House, Swansea

Currently open, and fully up and running, but every time I've gone past, seems to be very quiet in the afternoon / early evening. So don't know if it gets busy at night. Might call in one late evening see what its like nowdays.......

8 Dec 2010 12:52

The Woodman, Blackpill

Seems like this place has undergone another change of management recently ( for the worse ) as it it now an expensive place to visit, and where the staff are totally useless, and couldn't care less about you. I won't be going back here again, and I have only heard negative things about the place lately, usually involving the price of meals, and the ridiculous waiting times for food. .......

5 Dec 2010 22:58

St George Public House, Swansea

Re-opening in 10 Days, so the banner outside said today, looks like the place has had a complete makeover. Hopefully it will be busy once again.......

10 Nov 2010 21:43

The Village Inn, Mumbles

BTW.....
Its VERY interesting to see that sue. villageinn1, is only 30 Years old, according to her profile. Not bad for someone who has been running Pubs for 27 Years, Eh......

250 Sunday Lunches is also probably a bit of an exaggeration too, as the capacity of the Village Inn is......70 people, most of whom will have to stand up in there, but there we go. Don't let me put you off Folks, pop in there and see for yourself, if you can get a seat there that is !!!!!.......

21 Oct 2010 22:12

The Village Inn, Mumbles

Yes, Sue....
You may well have run Pubs for 27 Years, but as a Manageress, which is a HUGE difference to running your own business, and having to pay everyone out of your own pocket...
You also forgot to mention you have been trying to sell the place for the last 10 Years, with NO buyers, and I stand by what I said in my earlier posts ( and others agree ) its a VERY clique place, and you WILL get treated differently if you are not one the " Mumbles Luvvelies "......
I've been in there and seen it many times, and if you can't, then you obviously don't know your Pub as well as you think.....

21 Oct 2010 21:49

The Wig, Swansea

Called in here today ( Tuesday ) at approx 2pm, as we were in the area, and was VERY suprised to see absolutely nobody at all, inside the place, it was a lovely sunny day though, so we sat outside with our plastic glasses, and left after one drink. Not sure if that is a normal daytime trade here, but with a lovely big beer garden out the front, I would have thought this Pub would be quite popular, in the afternoon sunshine... Obviously not !!!!.....

12 Oct 2010 18:28

St George Public House, Swansea

Currently surrounded by loads of scaffolding, and it looks like the inside is being completely refurbished too. Lots of work going on, both in and around this Pub nowdays. Lets hope the new owners / licensee can make a go of this place when it does re-open then. Be nice to see it busy again, methinks.......

6 Oct 2010 08:23

The Cricketers, Swansea

Well, after reading Foxhole's comment we decided to pop in here on Friday, simply because we were in the area, and it was a damn awful day, where the rain was streaming down everywhere, and it was the 1st day of the Golf Ryder Cup too, so we thought it would be shown in here, as it advertises SKY Sports on the banner outside.........

Anyway, what we found was a drab, boring, lifeless Pub, with NO customers, no music, no SKY Sports showing, and no atmosphere either. So we just bought a couple of Pints, and sat in the window having a chat for an hour or so, but we were the only people in here on a Friday afternoon, and I must admit, I don't think I would go back here again..........

It seems the past history of this Pub, is keeping customers away, as even the students don't use it nowdays, and I can see why too. Looks like the new Licensees have a lot of work to do, to get ANY trade in the place nowdays......

Good Luck to them, I think they are going to need it........

2 Oct 2010 22:12

The White Rose, Mumbles

Have to agree with the 2 previous comments below, after calling in here this afternoon. Not sure whats happened to this place lately, but it certainly wasn't a patch on our previous visit. Seems to be chaotic all round, hard to even get served a drink in here today, well understaffed, and the staff on duty were rushed off their feet, mainly serving customers who had ordered food, therefore leaving the Bar unattended completely. Very poor management indeed !!!!......

23 Sep 2010 18:06

The Victoria Inn, Mumbles

Still closed at the moment, been a couple of Months now, not looking good for this Pub nowdays. Shame !!!!......

23 Sep 2010 17:59

The Cricketers, Swansea

Sorry Foxhole......

Not been near the Cricketers for a while now, since my last post, don't know of anybody that is a regular there nowdays either. If it is open regularly, that is probably a good start though, might be worth you popping in next weekend and putting a comment up on here, give us a better idea of the place........

10 Sep 2010 18:20

Eli Jenkins, Swansea

Called in here recently about 7pm, before going to the Grand Theatre, which is just around the corner.........and went straight back out of the place. It was full of pissed people, who seemed to have been there all day, and the atmosphere was VERY nasty indeed, not a nice place at all nowdays, it seems. I won't be going back there again, thats a certainty !!!!........

9 Sep 2010 22:29

Beaufort Arms, Kittle

Well, I'm glad gowerglyn enjoys the Pub atmosphere here, but I'm afraid I cannot agree with him. I was there last week, and I stick by what I wrote earlier, I was with a couple of friends from Pennard, and they agree about the place too. They only use it as a last resort to meet people, and on the night we we there, it was empty, and had absolutely NO atmosphere at all, bit like a Doctors waiting room in fact !!!.....

26 Aug 2010 22:42

The Woodman, Blackpill

Well, having praised this establishment with my previous comments, I must now issue you with a warning about this place. We have eaten here recently on two occasions, and although the food / service was very good, BUT, when it came to paying the bill, it was a LOT more than we expected. So obviously we questioned the bill, and on BOTH visits they had added an " extra " drink / meal / side dish, on to the table ......which we had not ordered. So be careful, and check you bill thoroughly Folks, as they may do the same to you !!!!!.......

They took the difference off, after we queried the bill, but that is NOT the point......

12 Aug 2010 17:47

The Woodman, Blackpill

Just called in here this afternoon, after being down the Gower, and was suprised to see how busy it was on a Sunday afternoon. So busy in fact, we couldn't find a table to sit at, and there were a few people waiting before us. So they must be doing something right here nowdays. Great to see in fact........

18 Jul 2010 16:14

The Village Inn, Mumbles

I can totally understand the poster below's frustration, as this a very " clique " type of place, and if you are not a member of the " Mumbles Lovelies " they tend to make you feel unwelcome all round. I've seen it before, and its another reason I ( and MANY others ) don't go there anymore either.....

29 Jun 2010 18:26

The Beaufort Arms, Mumbles

Tucked away just off the Mumbles Road at Norton, quite difficult to park anywhere near the place in fact, so seems to rely on locals most of the time. Bit of a throwback in time to be honest, not sure if it is open or not nowdays. Certainly wasn't when I drove past this afternoon.........

23 Jun 2010 21:50

The Nags Head, Mumbles

Currently being converted into a " Costa " Coffe shop, so thats the end of another famous Mumbles Pub !!!!......

22 Jun 2010 18:22

The Woodman, Blackpill

Just been overhauled inside, and to be honest I don't think you would really notice the difference from before, just seems a bit lighter in places. We called in here last week, and found the Menu to be VERY expensive, BUT, they seem to be offering a good selection of food all round, and have a very nice " Lunch Time " deal on nowdays, and the place was VERY busy on a Tuesday afternoon, so it seems to be working. Our food was excellent, and the service was very good too. Seems to be an improvement on the previous "Woodman " all round........

21 Jun 2010 23:01

St George Public House, Swansea

Drove past today ( Bank Holiday Monday ) about 2pm, and it was indeed closed again. Looks like its going to be shut for a while too, as Punch Taverns say they will be spending about 60,000 to re-furbish the place. THEN, hoping for a new tenant / landlord to come in and run the business. Good Luck to them I think, can't imagine anyone would want to try and become the new tenant here, with the Pub trade in such a mess.......

31 May 2010 16:36

Bryn Y Mor, Swansea

How come ALL the reviews have been removed about this place !!!!......

28 May 2010 22:05

St George Public House, Swansea

Well, if this place does close again ( and I wouldn't be suprised at that ) There will be 3 Pubs ( Bar Reef and The Tenby being the other 2 ) within a 100 Yards of each other shut down, and no prospect of opening again soon by the look of it. Could be a lot of apartments built in this area of Swansea soon !!!.....

10 May 2010 22:09

St George Public House, Swansea

Just noticed they are advertising an " Open Day " here soon, or so the banner outside says. Wonder if that is a desperate attempt to get some more customers into the place, or a cunning plan to sell the place ASAP !!!!.......

8 May 2010 22:54

The Victoria Inn, Mumbles

Sadly, it looks like this Pub has finally succumbed to the financial pressure put on its Landlady ( Amanda Garstang ) by Enterprise Inns, and all the relevant other debts that come with the licensed trade nowdays, and will close this Saturday May 8th. The future of the Pub is certainly not looking good nowdays..........

7 May 2010 19:06

The Cricketers, Swansea

Currently closed once more at the moment, but re-opening AGAIN, under " New Management " on Good Friday. Oh well, we shall see what happens this time I suppose !!!!.....

30 Mar 2010 22:55

The Cricketers, Swansea

Not sure if the new people running this Pub are taking it seriously, as I've driven past here a lot lately in the Afternoons, and it is normally shut. So I don't know how they expect to make it work........

8 Mar 2010 22:18

Westbourne Hotel, Swansea

Well, having not been in here since my previous comment, we decided to call in here recently, and have a meal at lunchtime. There were 6 of us, and in all fairness, the service was superb, the food arrived quickly for our party, and was very nice indeed. We over heard a couple of regular diners behind us mentioning that there is a new Chef there nowdays, and the standard of food has improved drastically. Good news all round then..........

14 Feb 2010 23:12

The Cricketers, Swansea

Just re-opened again on Friday the 12, under new Management ( so the posters say ) so we will just have to wait and see what happens with this Pub now. It certainly changes hands on a regular basis nowdays, must be a reason for that I suppose !!!!......

13 Feb 2010 08:35

St George Public House, Swansea

We walked in here today at about 1:30 pm ( Sunday )...and promptly walked straight back out. Not another person in the place. No music, no atmosphere, no customers. Great if you like a VERY quiet Pub I suppose........

7 Feb 2010 22:54

The Bryn y Mor Hotel, Brynmill

Called in here Friday afternoon, to meet a few friends, and it was certainly an improvement from our last visit. Seems like the Manager ( who I suspect is Dave below ) has been reading the posts on here, and actually done something about the place. Which has to be a step in the right direction I suppose .........

6 Feb 2010 22:34

Smokin' Dog, Swansea

Currently open again, but not much trade going through the doors there.......

6 Feb 2010 22:26

The Cricketers, Swansea

Been closed for a week or so now. Seems to have been abandoned in fact, curtains shut, all posters taken down from windows, and no sign of life there at all. No doubt it will re-open in a couple of weeks again " Under New Management " though....

6 Feb 2010 22:25

Smokin' Dog, Swansea

Currently closed again, but with a notice in the window saying.......

Open under new management...........SOON !!!!!.....

Make of that what you will, I suppose

26 Jan 2010 13:00

The Nags Head, Mumbles

Another Pub in the area with a " To Let " sign up on its frontage. Seems like nobody wants to run a Pub in Mumbles nowdays. Can't say I blame them actually, as its certainly a dying trade here now.....

20 Dec 2009 23:10

Spinning Wheel, Sketty

Not been in here since my previous comment, but was roped into attending a Xmas party of 10 this afternoon here, and to be honest I think the place has got worse. The service was awfully slow, food took about an hour to arrive, and a lot of it was cold or undercooked, and had to be sent back. Oddly the place wasn't even busy at lunchtime, but started to fill up as we were leaving, so why they take so long to sort out the food side of this Pub, is a mystery, as its been open about 18 months now. Not cheap either nowdays. Not many of us in the Party of 10 will be returning here again, thats a certainty. Shame really, as it COULD be a great place to eat and drink......

19 Dec 2009 18:34

St George Public House, Swansea

Up and running again at the moment, but has very little trade going through the doors. Looks quite depressing and dark in there now in fact. Seems like the new people are not going out of their way to encourage people to visit their Pub nowdays.......

1 Dec 2009 22:32

The Antelope, Mumbles

Been closed a while now, and a big " For Sale " sign posted outside, doesn't look good for this Pub nowdays........

1 Dec 2009 22:27

St George Public House, Swansea

Drove past here recently, and saw it was still closed, probably been a week or longer now, so I would have though the previous customers would have found somewhere else to drink / eat by now. Also saw a blackboard in the window saying it was re-opening " Under new Management " on the 17th of November. They have a hard act to follow in my opinion, but good luck to them. Time will tell I suppose......

16 Nov 2009 23:03

St George Public House, Swansea

Yes, the comment below is very sad news indeed, but is explains why the place was closed on Tuesday ( 10th ) afternoon when we called up for some lunch, and we had a funny feeling something was wrong, as the windows looked a bit bare. I cannot praise their standards high enough either, in both food, customer service, and just general atmosphere all round. They will be sadly missed by a lot of their customers and friends, and I also wish them good luck for the future.......

11 Nov 2009 16:34

The Pump House, Swansea

We met a couple of friends here today, as it was a beautiful sunny Day, and we wanted to sit outside a Pub. Having not been here for well over a Year now, we were all amazed at how run down this Pub / Restuarant is nowdays. It was filthy inside, and even worse outside, looks like nobody has cleaned the place in weeks. It is also VERY expensive too. No chance of us going back here again, we finished our drinks and left ASAP, never to return........

14 Oct 2009 22:45

The Village Inn, Mumbles

Walked past here today about 2pm ish ( Monday ) and saw it was closed, and it was a lovely sunny day in Mumbles, and I would have thought they needed the trade, as it was quite busy all round with people everywhere, but having said that, just about every other Pub was closed on the front as well, so perhaps they ALL close on a Monday, even if it is a lovely day.........

Very Strange, methinks !!!!!!........

24 Aug 2009 22:43

Smokin' Dog, Swansea

Another Pub in the area doing VERY cheap meals, 2 for 5:00 is the sign in the window at the moment......

19 Aug 2009 08:18

The Bryn y Mor Hotel, Brynmill

Another Pub in the area offering very cheap meals at a price of 2:99, mind you I dread to see the state of the Kitchen in this place, if the Bar, and Toilets are anything to go by.......

13 Aug 2009 22:59

The Wig, Swansea

Currently advertising meals for 2:95, with a large banner outside. Seems to be a LOT of Pubs around here offering ridiculously low prices on food nowdays. Sign of the times I suppose........

12 Aug 2009 22:09

St George Public House, Swansea

Rather quiet last time we called in here on a Thursday afternoon, but it was a wet, wild and windy Day outside. Food was superb again though. Hopefully the place is busier normally. Really nice Pub indeed.......

10 Aug 2009 00:28

The Cricketers, Swansea

Currently offering meals for 1:49, not quite sure what that tells me actually, but there seems to be a lot of activity within the Pub nowdays.......

10 Aug 2009 00:20

Oceana, Swansea

Probably got the best value Sunday Lunch in the City Centre at the moment, 6:95 for a stunning Carvery, with as much Beef / Turkey as you can eat, and a vast amount of vegetables to compliment the meal. All of which are superbly cooked and presented, and the venue itself is spotlessy clean, and the staff are really helpful as well. Certainly deserves a high rating on here, I think.

9 Aug 2009 23:48

The Greyhound, Old Walls

This is a very difficult one to call actually, it's like 3 Pubs in one, with a small room at the front, and a tiny Bar, which is almost impossible to get served in, especially on the Sunday we called in. Then a big room a bit further down on the left, like a School Canteen in fact, with tables laid out in regimental form, also with a Bar, that wasn't open. So we really didn't know where to go to get served, but tried another room further down the corridor, which was also a small Bar, which seemed cozy, and had a button which said " Please ring for Service " which we did, all to no avail. Then the Guy sitting at the Bar, with his Pint, made us laugh, when he said........Pointless ringing that Pal, It's Sunday, better off going down to " The Dolphin " just down the road, at least, you will get served, which we did, and quite nice it was too.......

Can't say it was a good or bad experience actually at this " Greyhound " Pub, as we never got served, but it was VERY busy with Sunday Lunches, so that HAS to be a good sign in these troubled times for the Pub Trade .........

13 Jul 2009 22:35

The Bryn y Mor Hotel, Brynmill

Must admit, I certainly agree with some of the comments below, the Manager does seem more interested in walking his large St. Bernard Dog around the area, than actually concentrating on running this Pub nowdays, with the result the customers do what they like, both inside and outside the premesis. So it's a place to avoid at all costs. The sooner it gets shut down, the better, is the general opinion of the residents, and who can blame them.......

Zero rating from me as well.........

13 Jul 2009 22:02

Vivian, Sketty

Currently closed, but due to open soon as another S.A.Brains Pub in the area. The horrible burgundy colour, the outside of it is being painted at the moment looks dreadful. Wonder what type of clientelle they are expecting to attract !!!!!.......

12 Jul 2009 21:51

The Sussex Arms, Paddington

Yes, we called in here on the 1st July, whilst waiting for a Train home, and had a nice welcome indeed, and a great bit of banter with the locals for an Hour or so. Will certainly call here again instead of the dreary Sawyers Arms next time we are waiting for a Train home. Great Pub, with a lovely friendly atmosphere !!!!......

3 Jul 2009 19:22

The Sawyers Arms, Paddington

Must agree with some of the comments below, we have called in here a couple of times recently, whilst waiting for a Train home, and the Landlord HAS been very arrogant / ignorant, and in fact, very rude to us last time ( if it IS the same Guy ) we called here. O.K. to sit outside and watch the world go by though, but certainly NOT a Pub I would visit regularly if I lived anywhere near the place........

It was actually closed on the 1st of July, when we went to call in there, so used the Sussex Arms just down the road instead, which was much friendlier indeed, so we know where to visit next time, we are waiting for a Train home now......

3 Jul 2009 18:23

Spinning Wheel, Sketty

Seems to becoming a bit of a " Sports Pub " nowdays, called in here today ( Saturday ) and found the top end of the place full of people watching the Rugby, including the so called Landlord " Eric " who was too busy watching T.V. to actually serve anyone, and see people walking in, and then OUT of the Pub, which included us, and four other people standing at the Bar, waiting to get served, by the poor Girl on her own working behind the Bar......

Looks like its become a typical Brains managed House, now the novelty has worn off. Very interesting to see NOBODY at all eating here on a Saturday afternoon, as well.....

Last time we visit this place, which seems to be the general opinion of other people we spoke to afterwards.....

Shame really but thats what happens when you put a complacent Licensee in charge of a new Pub I suppose......

28 Jun 2009 00:01

The Village Inn, Mumbles

Called in here last Friday evening, and I must say I got the same feeling in here that I had the last time we called here, its NOT a friendly place at all, seems to be full of people that have been drinking ALL day, and don't know when to go home. We sat outside, in the cold shade, finished our drinks and left. Perhaps Friday night is not the right place to visit this place, certainly seems that way to me......

4 Jun 2009 22:27

Cross Keys, Swansea

Well, I didn't think this Pub could get any worse, since our last visit, but after going to the Cinema just down the road, we thought we would give the place another visit, after all it COULD be a nice place to have a drink. Somehow the Management have managed to turn it into a total dive, which smells awful, feels grubby and dirty, looks very shabby and dark nowdays too. Seems like a total meltdown has happened to this place, we didn't even bother ordering a drink, and just walked out of this dump......

19 May 2009 23:53

Smokin' Dog, Swansea

Yes, we called in here on Thursday evening, just to see what the place was like nowdays, and also walked out, as it was full of pissed people. Seems to have taken a turn for the worst lately, Sadly........

15 May 2009 22:02

The Park Inn, Mumbles

Certainly agree with the comment below.........

10 May 2009 22:32

The Victoria Inn, Mumbles

Well Ed, It was over 2 Years ago since I posted that comment, and at the time it was how I saw the Pub then, the Licensed trade has changed completly since, with more and more Pubs closing every Day, I'm just glad The Vic is still open, and the Park too......

10 May 2009 22:27

Railway Inn, Upper Killay

Strange choice for an 18th Birthday Party I must admit, after reading the comment below, but if you enjoyed it there, that must be good news for the profile of the Pub, and hopefully it is getting busier all round.....

6 May 2009 23:29

The Brunswick, Swansea

Personally, I think they are losing a lot of their trade across the road, to the much improved St. George, but don't realise it yet. I still think this place is an expensive place to eat with no atmosphere at all, and totally bland food as well. We met friends in here today and were bored silly in this Pub, no background music at all, and I stick by my earlier comment on here of it being like a Library. I was glad to get out there in fact. May suit some people, but next time I arrange to meet friends for a meal, it won't be in here, it will be across the road..........

5 May 2009 23:15

The Cricketers, Swansea

Popped in here on Wed evening, whilst the Varsity Match was on at St Helens, and it seemed O.K. So perhaps the new owners know what they are doing nowdays as, the screen in the corner was showing the Man Utd v Arsenal game, which was only on SKY Sports, and there was a nice crowd in here, with a lot of banter going on, which created a very pleasant atmosphere. Good Start I suppose, lets hope it continues.......

1 May 2009 21:31

St George Public House, Swansea

Yes, I totally agree with the comment below, what a transformation of a Pub, we called in here last week and noticed the decor had changed completely, and the daily " specials " were now on clear display behind the Bar. So, as there were 6 of us, we all ordered something different, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal, and loved the atmosphere there too. We will certainly be going back here a lot more. In fact, I think it will be the ONLY place we eat nowdays. Congratulations to the Landlord and Landlady, you are doing a brilliant job indeed........

29 Apr 2009 22:12

The Cricketers, Swansea

Well, it looks like this place has new Licensees ( again ) judging by the banners all over the Pub, now claiming to be " Under New Ownership "..with SKY Sports too, so perhaps it will take off again, if people realise they are here to stay, may take a bit of time though, due to recent events at the Pub. Good Luck to them !!!!!!.......

21 Apr 2009 23:06

Spinning Wheel, Sketty

Well, I hate to write this, but this Pub has somehow managed to shoot itself in the foot. We called in here this afternoon, about 2pm ish, and there was just ONE person behind the Bar, no other staff working at all, and quite a few people wating to be served. We waited for about 10 minutes, along with a few other patient people to be served, then left, after being told there was a 45 minute wait for food......

The place was EMPTY, so how they can say there was such a wait, was beyond us. Oh well, another place to avoid I suppose if you want something to eat within a reasonable time ......

Shame really, as it had the potential to keep a good clientele base very happy.....

Still a nice place to have a drink though......

16 Apr 2009 23:03

Spinning Wheel, Sketty

Called in here this afternoon, about 1:30pm ( Good Friday ) and was shocked to see how empty it was, only about 12 people in the whole Pub in fact, and no-one eating either. Very strange indeed, we had just the one drink and left, bit of a flat atmosphere all round, if the truth be know. Hope that was just a one off, as its a lovely place nowdays.........

10 Apr 2009 22:36

The Uplands Tavern, Swansea

However, since my last comment, it seems this place has taken a nose dive in popularity, both inside and out. VERY quiet over the last weekend, and talking to some of the locals outside here, its nothing unusual nowdays, since the change of management !!!!!.......

7 Apr 2009 23:49

St George Public House, Swansea

What a lovely Pub this is nowdays, really pleasant to just pop in for a drink and relax, or have something to eat with friends, as the food is superb indeed. Certainly one of the best places to visit in Swansea at the moment. The new owners are doing a wonderful job here all round, and deserve our support. Lets not let them down folks, pop in and say hello, I'm sure you will like it there......

22 Mar 2009 22:26

The Cricketers, Swansea

Just drove past this place tonight ( Friday ) about 10pm ish,and it is well and truly shut again. Looks like the place has been abandoned in fact. What a waste of a good Pub.....

19 Mar 2009 22:51

Rasputins Vodka Bar, Swansea

Drove past here yesterday, and noticed its been turned into a Shop, so another one bites the Dust......

9 Mar 2009 09:40

The White Rose, Mumbles

Called in here yesterday afternoon, after a Funeral up at Oystermouth Cemetary, so quite a lot of people in here. The service from the Bar was very prompt and the prices were unbelievably cheap. Special offer on was 2 meals for 5:00, so quite a few friends took advantage of that, and once again, the food arrived within reason, considering the amount of people in the place, they coped very well indeed. Certainly an improment since last time I was here, seems to have had a new lease of life all round in fact......

28 Feb 2009 10:39

The Cricketers, Swansea

Not quite sure if that is a genuine comment posted below there by BillGaz, as I drove past here this afternoon ( Monday ) about 2pm, quite by co-incidence, and noticed the curtains were still all drawn downstairs, the doors and gates were still locked, and the Xmas menu's were still on the boards outside, Looked very similar to when we called here last Year in November.....i.e....SHUT, with no prospect of opening soon. Lets hope I'm wrong....

9 Feb 2009 16:57

Spinning Wheel, Sketty

Yes, I totally agree with the previous comment. We called in here today, and it was very pleasant indeed, bit of a wait for food, but we were told that before we ordered, which was fair, we had the choice to stay or go, so it seems this place is a 100% improvement, and its SO nice to see the place busy again. Well Done, S.A, Brains....

6 Jan 2009 23:09

St George Public House, Swansea

About 10 of us called in here on Xmas Eve afternoon, and the place was buzzing again, great to see actually. Live Band playing, everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves, and a great atmosphere too. we stayed a LOT longer than we thought, and the Pub was still busy at about 10pm, which is unusual on Xmas Eve, as most places are dead then, and some even close early. Not here though. Looks like the new people have made a great start, and good luck to them too.....

27 Dec 2008 19:19

The Pub On The Pond, Swansea

Called in early afternoon today ( 23 Dec 08 ) and was very suprised how quiet it was, no Xmas parties in here at all, but just a few people taking advantage of their " 2 meals for 10 " offer. Strange feeling in the Pub too, with no music playing, which may explain their lack of customers. In fact it was pretty boring actually, and we left after one drink.......

23 Dec 2008 22:51

The Rhyddings Hotel, Brynmill

Rumour has it, that the current Licensee is about to retire, and leave soon after Xmas. Which hopefully, will give someone the chance to restore this lovely Pub to its former glory, as its STILL a dump to drink in nowdays, with NO customers to be seen. Sat in here this afternoon with a good friend who lives locally, and it was SO sad to see about 6 of us in the place, on a Xmas week as well. Probably says it all actually..

23 Dec 2008 19:20

The Cricketers, Swansea

Seems like this place has new owners AGAIN, who are doing themselves no favours by opening when and if it suits them. So my advice is, if you are in the area, pop in, but don't go out of your way to visit the place, as it may well be shut. What a sad state of affairs.......

23 Dec 2008 19:14

The Cricketers, Swansea

Perhaps I spoke too soon about this Pub, as we ( about 20 of us ) called here today to watch the Wales v Australia match, after I sung its praises to them, only to find the Doors closed, and the place looking, as if there was nobody home. Last time I recommend this place to anybody, as we had to go and walk to another Pub, to watch the Game, which was a far distance away. The egg on my face is still warm, and quite embarrasing. Hence my changed rating of a ZERO ............

29 Nov 2008 23:46

The Park Inn, Mumbles

Yep, I certainly agree with the prevoius comments here. What a cracking Pub indeed, tucked away nicely too, well from the maddening hordes on the Seafront.......

7 Nov 2008 22:17

St George Public House, Swansea

Just re-opened ( again ) with new people at the helm, who seem to have tidied the place up a lot. We called in here today, and saw a marked improvement all round. Live music now playing a big part in the attempt to get the crowds back into this Pub. Very pleasant atmosphere in here too. Good Luck to them.......

7 Nov 2008 16:11

The Wig, Swansea

Loads of people queuing up to get in here on a Sunday Morning at 11:55am today, as we drove past. They must be doing something right.......

26 Oct 2008 15:35

Cross Keys, Swansea

Called in here today late afternoon, and found the place to be pretty quiet, expensive, and a totally flat atmosphere too. We were going to try and order a meal, after ordering our drinks, but the bar staff turned us away from that one, after suggesting " Yates is Cheaper " just up the road (?) WHAT.......make your own mind up on that one !!!!.......

15 Oct 2008 23:16

The Cricketers, Swansea

BTW....Forgot to mention in my previous comment, that they are only taking CASH, at the moment, NO credit or debit cards, but they will be doing so later on. Though that was important to add here, as I don't think there is an ATM within walking distance......

15 Oct 2008 10:36

The Cricketers, Swansea

Called in here on a recent Saturday, to watch the Rugby, as it is right next to the St Helens Ground, which is an excellent location indeed, and in all fairness the place was spotless, the beers were great, we ate there too, after the match, which was excellent value for money, and the staff were superb too. So it looks like the place has got a new lease of Life, which is great to see. Good Luck to the new owners, they are doing a brilliant job indeed.......

14 Oct 2008 22:36

Yates's, Swansea

Well, after my initial comment, and having now called in here on a weekday, after given this place a second chance. I can confirm that is CRAP, total and absolute garbage. The food is an absolute joke, and because there was a football match on, we were given plastic glasses, and we were sitting INSIDE. I think we caught them on a Good Day on our previous visit on a Sunday ( luckily )......but I certainly would not advise or recommend this place to anyone......

9 Oct 2008 22:01

Railway Inn, Upper Killay

Well Folks...

I don't really think I should be posting comments on this Pub nowdays, as I have not been there for over a Year now. My previous remarks are how we were treated there at the time, and I'm sure the new Landlord and his wife, are doing a good job nowdays. So please pop in and give them a chance, if you are passing !!!!.......

8 Oct 2008 22:03

The Slug and Lettuce, Winchester

Reading all these negative reviews suprised me. We sat outside here last Summer, and it was excellent indeed. Staff were prompt and polite, drinks arrived VERY quickly, Stella was superb, served in a proper chilled Stella glass, and the Food was top quality as well. We stayed for a lot longer than we anticipated, just watching the crowds go by and relaxing. I would certainly go back here......

2 Oct 2008 11:11

Spinning Wheel, Sketty

Now re-opened and called " The Hen Dderwen ".....Very smart indeed, and a complete transformation of this Pub, could become very popular as it is right in the middle of a big estate. Prices seem reasonable too. Well worth a look folks, if you are passing.......

2 Oct 2008 10:11

Railway Inn, Upper Killay

I think the Sarcasm in the comment below, just about sums up my visit to this Pub on a hot sunny Day last year, we DID try and have a conversation with the locals outside, who made it perfectly obvious they did NOT want to be bothered with us Cyclists.......BUT, that is not a reflection on the new owners, whom I have already wished, Good Luck......I think they are going to need it !!!!.......

1 Oct 2008 19:20

Westbourne Hotel, Swansea

Called in here today about 2:15pm ( Monday ) on the way home, and was amazed to see how quiet it was, just the two of us in there in fact, perhaps they have over priced themselves out of the market. Just under 6 for 2 pints of lager......No wonder it was dead in there !!!!.......

22 Sep 2008 23:42

Spinning Wheel, Sketty

Drove past here on Saturday, and it looks absolutely stunning in its new guise. Got to give S.A.Brain a massive amount of credit for this transfomation. Hopefully it will take off, as soon as possible, don't know when the opening date is yet, though......

21 Sep 2008 23:47

Vivian, Sketty

Yep, certainly agree with the comment below, this Pub has gone to the Dogs lately, and is not even worth a visit nowdays. Perhaps they will buck their ideas up when the new Spinning Wheel opens in Sketty, and challenges their captive audience " Food Trade " trade.......

21 Sep 2008 23:38

Beaufort Arms, Kittle

Most local people avoid this Pub like the plague, and if you have actually been in there for more than an Hour ( not outside ) you will know why. Typical S.A. Brain boring Pub in fact, with no thought put into it at all,Shame really.......

21 Sep 2008 23:09

Yates's, Swansea

Well, having not been in here for about 5 Years now. I was forced (Yes, FORCED )into attending a Family re-union here today( Sunday )and, Guess What......I was pleasantly suprised at the change in the place. It was a very relaxing atmosphere, the Sunday Lunch was very pleasant, and ridiculously cheap ( 5:45 for 2 courses )so were the drinks. The staff were helpful, keen and totally efficent, and overall it was a bit of eye opener for me, as I had vowed never to return to this Establishment again, after some very bad experiences here, BUT, Credit where its due, its a nice, friendly place for a Sunday Lunchtime experience. Obviously I cannot comment on the rest of the week, but well worth a look on a Sunday Lunchtime.......

21 Sep 2008 19:10

Railway Inn, Upper Killay

Well, I think that a very nice, refreshing, and positive attitude from a new couple at this Pub....

Good Luck to you both......

21 Sep 2008 18:44

The Bank Statement, Swansea

Scary place to be at weekends, especially at night. Certainly not the right place for a romantic, quiet evening with the Wife / Girlfriend.......

13 Sep 2008 23:18

The Cockett Inn, Cockett

Seems to attract a lot of Funeral wakes, and having been in here recently, I can see why. Dark, dowdy and very uninviting indeed, not a happy place to have a drink at all.........

9 Sep 2008 18:06

Swan Inn, Morriston

Seems to be closed most of the time nowdays....

6 Sep 2008 13:06

La Cantina, Swansea

Yes,indeed, Staff are brilliant, and SO clever at bringing you out those extra little dishes ( Tapas ) which soon mount up, to the price of a small Spanish Island. I think its a place you wil try once, and then think........WHY !!!!......

5 Sep 2008 23:19

Smiths Arms, Hafod

Seems to closed most afternoons nowdays....

5 Sep 2008 23:14

The Bay View, Swansea

Called in here this afternoon, with high expectations. Only to find a cold, dreary, boring Pub with no atmosphere at all,and no customers either. Not suprising really. What a shame.......

4 Sep 2008 22:41

The Greyhound, Old Walls

Called in here on the recent Bank Holiday, and found the place to be very busy ( bad weather )and quite hard work to get served, despite going from Bar to Bar, we had to wait about 15 minutes just to get a drink. Thank God we didn't order food !!!!......

27 Aug 2008 21:54

The Uplands Tavern, Swansea

I wouldn't have thought BBC Radio Wales could be taken seriously with that comment either. How often have they visited the Pub......

I've called in here a lot over the last 2 Years, and its a great place to relax outside, and has a lovely atmosphere too, plus reasonable prices, with great staff as well, so I have no problems with the Pub at all. In fact I often recommend it to others.....

19 Aug 2008 15:55

Que Pasa, Swansea

Just re-opened, completely refurbished and now called the Mackworth Hotel instead....

19 Aug 2008 14:31

Railway Inn, Upper Killay

But will the " Locals " still stare / scorn at us visitors....and make customers feel unwelcome !!!!...

6 Aug 2008 21:44

The Dunvant, Dunvant

Cheap Meals, but a very cheap looking Pub too. So you probably get what you pay for here......

6 Aug 2008 21:38

Smiths, Llansamlett

Another " Enterprise Inn " that is currently closed......

5 Aug 2008 21:22

Rat and Carrot, Morriston

Seems to be closed, more often than it is open nowdays.....

3 Aug 2008 21:10

St George Public House, Swansea

Another major casualty in the rapid closure of Pubs in Swansea at the moment,I'm afraid....Wonder how many more will suffer the same fate soon. What a sad state of of affairs indeed......BUT, there are new people trying to re-open this place soon......Good Luck to them.....

2 Aug 2008 21:33

Spinning Wheel, Sketty

Closed down at the moment, but S.A.Brain are spending a lot of money on a major refurb here. Lets hope its better than it was before......

2 Aug 2008 21:30

The Victoria Inn, Mumbles

Another major casualty in the rapid closure of Pubs in Swansea at the moment,I'm afraid....Wonder how many more will suffer the same fate soon. What a sad state of of affairs indeed......

2 Aug 2008 21:27

Smokin' Dog, Swansea

Currently up for sale, along with almost every other Pub in the area, so I think the owners have lost interest nowdays, and who can blame them. Closed every Tuesday at the moment.....

2 Aug 2008 21:24

Rasputins Vodka Bar, Swansea

Another major casualty in the rapid closure of Pubs in Swansea at the moment,I'm afraid....Wonder how many more will suffer the same fate soon. What a sad state of of affairs indeed......

2 Aug 2008 21:20

The Pilot, Mumbles

Sometimes open, sometimes not....seems like a lot of Mumbles Pubs are suffering the same fate at the moment.....Which is a crying shame actually......

26 Jul 2008 19:54

The Antelope, Mumbles

Sometimes open, sometimes not....seems like a lot of Mumbles Pubs are suffering the same fate at the moment.....

26 Jul 2008 19:49

The Rhyddings Hotel, Brynmill

Yep, certainly agree with the previous comments. This once famous student friendly Pub, has become a laughing stock in the hands of the present " Tenants "....wonder if anybody goes there nowdays actually....

25 Jul 2008 22:54

The Brunswick, Swansea

Strange atmosphere in here.Seems like a Library actually, pretty bland food too, but VERY costly for what you get. Perhaps they are concentrating too much on their new venture just around the corner called " Bar Reef"......

25 Jul 2008 18:56

Oceana, Swansea

Just re-opened as Oceana, with 10 Bars inside the place. Can't really call it a Pub anymore I suppose....

3 May 2008 22:18

The Quadrant Gate, Swansea

Sadly, this Pub has now closed down, and is being re-developed into retail units.......

3 May 2008 22:16

Westbourne Hotel, Swansea

Very interesting to see they have a MASSIVE advert in the local press recently, saying a big " Thank You " to all their old / new customers ( who all now drink elsewhere ) from Chris, Alan and Mark.....most people were told it was the Sons business ( Mark ) who obviously hasn't got a clue how to run this Pub, and is offending customers left right and centre. So now I know who the names are in the comment below, and WHY it was so relevant.........

6 Dec 2007 21:48

The Cricketers, Swansea

Recently re-opened ( again ) with another new Licensee, lets hope they can improve the fate of this establishment. It would be a real shame to see this place closed again.....

24 Nov 2007 21:15

Potters Wheel, Swansea

Well, I think if you are going to drink / eat in this place, you know what to expect before you get here. Not very pleasant or friendly at all, but cheap prices all round. So you pay your money and take your choice......

8 Nov 2007 22:26

Eli Jenkins, Swansea

This is an odd one actually, called in here at about 11am to meet a friend, and it was very busy indeed, mainly with people just finishing off their breakfasts !!!!.......

6 Nov 2007 22:20

The Quadrant Gate, Swansea

Seems to be open one Day, then closed the next. New Management / Tenants in here all the time nowdays. This Pub is certainly past its sell by date !!!!!......

6 Nov 2007 22:17

Oceana, Swansea

Currently closed, and boarded off, with a massive development going on, both inside and all around it, looks like there will be a few new Pubs, Clubs and Restuarants here in the near future.....

3 Nov 2007 12:45

Smokin' Dog, Swansea

We had a meal here today, and looked forward to it, but sadly, since my last visit, we have now found out that the Chef has left ( and it really shows )and the food has become rather mundane, which is a real shame.....

7 Oct 2007 17:39

Westbourne Hotel, Swansea

Yes, I totally agree with the comment below, although I don't know the names of the people mentioned in it. I ( and a lot of others ) have stopped going here, simply because of the contempt/ attitude shown towards us as customers......

7 Oct 2007 17:23

Railway Inn, Upper Killay

Excellent description below by UKMikey of the atmosphere in this Pub, we too were treated like Aliens recently, when we called in here on a Hot sunny afternoon after Cycling along the track. It was almost like as if they did not want to serve you, and all the locals just stared at us, as if they had never seen a Cyclist before. Very much like " The League of Gentlemen " we thought, perhaps they should re-name the Pub " Welcome to Royston Varsey " What a very odd place indeed to have a drink, I too will drive past a bit quicker now when I go that way, especially at night ........

3 Jul 2007 22:38

Reflex 80s Bar, Swansea

Just walked past this Pub today, and noticed it has now become " The Reflex 80's Bar "....time will tell on that one I suppose......

27 May 2007 20:04

The Pump House, Swansea

Quite expensive to eat here, and not that good either, seems to be catering for the passing Tourist trade in fact, knowing they will not complain, or have to come back here again. It is quite pleasant sitting outside though, beside the Water side, as the Boats drift past.........

9 May 2007 20:00

The Wig, Swansea

Seems to suffering lately, due to so many other refurbished Pubs nicking their trade. Plastic glasses given to you to use outside in the Beer Garden does them no favours either though.......

31 Mar 2007 20:55

Manselton Hotel, Brynhyfryd

Yes, I must admit the Pub has got a lot better / busier since the last Landlord ( Finchy ) has left, at least you can get served now within the Hour !!!!......

29 Mar 2007 23:34

The Uplands Tavern, Swansea

Claims to be the " Best " Live music venue in South Wales, someone had a great sense of humour when they wrote that one on the Poster outside....

26 Mar 2007 22:56

St George Public House, Swansea

Now this was a bit of an eye opener for us this Saturday, in as much that we used to call in here a lot and it was a nice, clean, well run Pub for Years, and had a great atmosphere on a Saturday, with all the Sport you could wish for being shown on many screens, and the place was really busy. Not any more.....It was full( wrong wording )of pissed idiots, some of whom were sleeping in their seats, and there was no sign of any sport on T.V. either. Landlady / Bar Staff standing at the end of the Bar smoking, just about summed it up really. Not a nice place to go anymore.

25 Mar 2007 22:48

The Bryn y Mor Hotel, Brynmill

Called in here recently in the early afternoon, and was a bit suprised how grubby it was looking, still got good cheap deals on some beers though. However the " For Sale " sign outside tells me this Pub is going to change for the worse soon, as its a managed House at the moment, and anyone taking this place on will certainly need to increase their prices by a lot to survive. Seems to be a lot of other Pubs going this way lately in Swansea.

23 Mar 2007 09:45

Westbourne Hotel, Swansea

Well, since my previous comment,I think the Landlord / Staff have taken their feet off the pedal, we have eaten here on 2 occasions lately, and the food has been very bland and quite poor really, and looking around on other times, when we have called in for a Drink here, there were certainly a lot of other unhappy customers, as plenty of plates had a lot of food left on them. Its still a nice place to have a Drink though, but the food seems to have become a bit " Hit or Miss ".....Shame really......

21 Mar 2007 19:18

The Village Inn, Mumbles

Well, as I actually LIVE in Swansea, and also know Suzie from her other pubs ( White Rose, Newton Inn )therefore, I feel I am well qualified to comment on the atmosphere in her current Pub, and we called in there on a Friday ( not a Wednesday )and it was not what I expected, sorry to disagree, but that was my opinion on the night we called in here...I'm glad you enjoy it there, but I won't be going back in a hurry !!!

6 Mar 2007 22:52

Smokin' Dog, Swansea

Well, having recently visited this establishment again,we found it has now decided to put on a Special Lunchtime Menu, where all the dishes are 4:50.....and they are all superb indeed, so there is no reason to worry about cost at all, must be the best kept secret in Swansea for excellent food, and the staff are always very pleasant too.

16 Feb 2007 01:14

The Victoria Inn, Mumbles

A little Gem of a Pub,tucked away in the back streets of the Village, full of locals, all with their own story to tell, and a great atmosphere as well, just like a good Pub should be. We really enjoyed our visit here, and will definitely be going back too.....

9 Feb 2007 23:17

The William Hancock, Mumbles

Seems to be closed most afternoons nowdays, which really is a sign of the times down here in Mumbles at the moment. What a shame that is....

9 Feb 2007 23:12

The Mumbles Pier Hotel, Mumbles

Another Mumbles Pub that has suffered badly in recent Years, don't even know if it is open anymore. It wasn't when we called down to the Pier, one afternoon last week....

9 Feb 2007 23:09

The Pilot, Mumbles

Another famous Pub in Mumbles that has been boarded up for a while now, big development going on around it at the moment, perhaps it will re-open one Day......

9 Feb 2007 23:06

The Famous Bear, Mumbles

It seems that this place has been boarded up for quite some time now, with no intention of ever being a Pub again, and it looks like planning permission has been granted to turn it into a block of Flats.....

9 Feb 2007 23:03

Salt at the George, Mumbles

Due to so many Pubs closing around it,I think this Pub is now the last one you will visit, if doing the " Mumbles Mile ". So I can understand their door policy, especially as it has been completely refurbished, and does look nice from the outside. I've not been in here though, so cannot comment on the Pub itself.

7 Feb 2007 09:41

The Pub On The Pond, Swansea

P.S..One VERY annoying thing about going here ( and its nothing to do with the Pub itself ) is that there is a Car park right behind the Pub, and its the only place to Park, but the Council will charge you to use it. It was 2:00 for 2 Hours last time I used it, but you may be charged more if you overstay your limit here...So be careful

7 Feb 2007 08:50

The Pub On The Pond, Swansea

This can be a very, very busy Pub in the Summer, its ideal for taking your Family, as it is right next to the Boating Lake, and Crazy Golf course, and its in a Park too. The service can be a bit hit and miss though, and there is often a long wait for food, or to get served at the Bar, but its normally due to the amount of people using the place, not the staff themselves. Well worth a visit....

7 Feb 2007 08:45

The Cricketers, Swansea

A famous old Swansea Pub,has recently seen some very hard times, and was closed for a few weeks just before Christmas. Thankfuly though, it has new owners, who seem to be trying hard to bring the Pub back to life. Good Luck to them.

7 Feb 2007 08:10

The White Rose, Mumbles

Used to be a very busy local Pub, but is now showing signs of wear and tear, still worth a visit on a Sunny Evening, but don't expect anything special here anymore......

7 Feb 2007 08:01

Vivian, Sketty

Wish I could agree with that previous comment having recently eaten here, probably the worst meals we have had in a Pub for a long time. The Chilli was so full of Salt we took it back, only to be told " No one else has complained today "....and you just could not cut the Steak as it was so undercooked, again to be told by the Staff, " You asked for it to be medium rare ".....When asked what they were going to do about the quality of the meals, we were told to leave it, if we didn't like it.......So we did, and left. Terrible Food, Terrible Staff. Terrible Pub.....what other reason do you need NOT to go there.....

6 Feb 2007 10:44

The Bay View, Swansea

Well, after seeing all the comments on this thread, we just had to go along and have a look at this venue, and I'm glad we did, It's a very unusual mixture of a Thai Restaurant, Bar and Lounge, with Big screen sports thrown in too, Live Music as well on certain nights. It was very quiet when we were there in the afternoon, but it was still very pleasant indeed, and we shall certainly be going back there when its busy, as I would think there is an even better atmosphere here then.Well Done to the owner, whom I believe has commented here on this thread. Nice One.....

4 Feb 2007 23:55

The Antelope, Mumbles

Another Pub on the " Mumbles Mile " which we called in on a Friday night recently, and it was awful, full of loud local drunks, who seemed to have been there all afternoon / evening, and who made us feel very uncomfortable when we walked in, so we just left and did not buy a drink here either, just like we did at the " Village Inn " earlier. but what a really bad atmosphere in here.

4 Feb 2007 00:02

Westbourne Hotel, Swansea

Another completely refurbished Pub in the area, and it is very well done indeed, with a nice clientelle visiting the Pub all through the Daytime, can get very busy at Night times though, and was VERY busy when we called in on a Sunday lunchtime recently. Good Luck to the owners, they seem to have done a very good job with this Pub, as it was a real pokey hole before, and was totally uninviting......

3 Feb 2007 23:46

Smokin' Dog, Swansea

What a lovely place this is nowdays, it used to be a bit of a dump as The Smoking Dog, but the new owners have spruced the place up, given it a brilliant new Menu, and created a lovely atmosphere too. We have eaten here on many occasions now and the food is superb ( if a little bit expensive ) Highly recommended.....Give it a try Folks....

3 Feb 2007 23:38

The Village Inn, Mumbles

Pretty dark inside, with a very strange and uncomfortable feeling, when we walked in here on a Friday night, I got the impression it was a very " clique " place, not very friendly at all. We never bought a Drink, so cannot say anything about prices etc.......

3 Feb 2007 23:31

The Rhyddings Hotel, Brynmill

This used to be such a Good Pub, it was well run, had good food and Beer and a really nice atmosphere, but I called here recently after being away from Swansea for a while, and it was a disgrace. The comment below is very true actually, I found the place to be totally neglected, with dirty glasses and plates all over the place, it was difficult to get served, as no one was behind the bar ( in the Lounge ) and when we did get served, it was awful, we left soon after, never to return again. What a waste of a good Pub.
