The Cleveland Arms, Bayswater

Started a pub crawl here which was a bad move as we liked it so much we did not leave to go to the next pub (Mitre) for 5 hours. Beer was kept well and we fely very welcome.
Welcome to the Good Beer Guide.

The Ferry Boat Inn, Ullapool

Lovely location with great view from the pub windows. Food was good, and had two real Ales on. Deuchars and Caledonian 70. One member of staff new what he was doing with the Ale and was taking care over it and was very friendly. Unfortunately a lot of the staff did not know how to pull a proper pint and it was often a frothy mess and not a pint. The woman in the dining room was very terse and we nearly walked out because of her attitude. We were early diners in an empty restaurant and were not allowed a window seat as reserved, (although we new otherwise) the window seats were still empty when we left. As we were staying here it cost them the following nights meal, as we ate elsewhere instead despite the good quality of the food.

Grog and Gruel, Fort William

At least seven Real ales on and they were happy for my partner to have samplers. I had six of the seven ales, the seventh (Hector) looked to dark and heavy for my tastes, all of which tasted, were well kept. Nice ambience to the place if not a little dark. Had some food in the bar area which was imaginative fare, bit pricey for the area, but good all the same.

The Benleva Hotel, Drumnadrochit

Just had a very enjoyable two night stay here with friendly staff. Good food, for which you will need to book a table if you wish to eat in the lounge. Four hand pumps, dispensing quality real Ale, not all to my taste, but that is why you have four of them. The beer was turning over very quickly so not long long to wait to try another brew. Apparently work has started on their own Micro brewery. Highly recommend the place.

The Thornbury Castle, Marylebone

Did you go to the right pub Blackheath? As it does not sound the Thornbury I frequent. As it says only open Mon to Friday, but does open for special occassions like tomorrow (30/5/09) for the Lions & Barbarian Rugby matches. Not the cheapest of places granted but does sort the type of clientele out. Keeps a good pint of Pride.
