Charles Cotton Hotel, Hartington

Nice enough pub and a decent range of beers which was visited at the end of a walk. Whilst staff were friendly enough, it was clear that they were more interested in the customers who were eating in the pub.

The Red Lion Inn, Litton

This is the second time recently that Ive gone into a pub after a walk in the peak District and, once its known that were only ordering drinks and not food, been met with a fairly cool welcome. On this occasion, the staff could not really have been clearer. Its a shame because its a nice pub with a choice of local beers. You might argue that its inevitable in honeypot villages like this, but it hardly encourages you to return and so is short-sighted. Whats more we waited so long for the teas that were ordered that we ended up asking for our money back.

The Asparagus, Battersea

Visited this pub, as I was staying at the nearby Travelodge. It tends to confirm my view of the majority of Wetherspoons pubs that I've visited - they lack a distinctive identity, probably because they are part of a chain and this one was no exception. On the plus side, the beer was decent and the food was cheap. It wasn't fantastic food, but it was by no means bad and as a visitor looking for somewhere to eat and drink, it fitted the bill. It was quite busy between six and seven with a good number of diners, but quickly emptied after seven and got a bit soulless. Not really a place to linger, but fine to pop into for a drink and a bite to eat.

The Park Inn, Mumbles

I'm going to agree with all the previous comments by saying what an excellent pub this is. I spent my summer holiday in Mumbles and was glad I made the effort to search it out. It's a comfortable place with a real down-to-earth feel and friendly staff, who invariably greet you with a smile. I visted on three separate occasions over ten days and the cask beers on offer were different each time (with the exception of one beer which re-appeared). I didn't have a bad beer at any time and with my drinking partner we managed to sample them all. It was nice to see too that the majority of the beers were local. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

The Baum, Rochdale

Toad Lane, the historic birthplace of the Co-operative movement, is now cast adrift in a typically nondescript townscape. Its tucked away off the main shopping street, is hemmed in by a busy ring road and is reached through a car park. But dont let that put you off; step through the door and youll quickly forget the surrounding area. The pub is done out in its own quirky style and gives it a distinctive character. It was a quiet Sunday lunchtime when I visited, but it was still a pleasant place to sup a beer. The food was decent and good value I tried the rag pudding and it got the thumbs up from me. Among the beers on offer were Ex-Mayor, Spring-Heeled Jack and Hedge Monkey. Well worth a visit.

Griffin, Eccleston

An attractive external appearance hides some fairly ordinary indoor surroundings. The pub is made up of a hotch-potch of rooms with no unifying feel to it, but its by no means terrible, because its a pleasant enough place for a pint. There is a large dining area and a decent drinking area outside, although its a bit close to the car park. They always have Jennings and Cains on and have a regular guest beer. Cheeky Pheasant was the guest beer the last time I was in.
