The Temple Inn, Liss Forest

The previous licensees left, after what I understood to be a less than good relationship with Fullers' area manager regarding opening times. First impressions are not necessarily reliable, but they can be significant. The HSB was OK, but I was less than impressed by paying 80p. for a 25g. packet of crisps, marked 'Not to be sold separately' and probably bought from Tesco at £1.50 for six.

The White Horse, Downton

I visited today with my disabled wife, having first confirmed the pub was accessible. It was fairly busy for a weekday lunchtime. The welcome was warm, the beer (West Berkshire Good Old Boy) excellent. Food was fairly priced and we didn't have to wait too long. There was a spacious disabled toilet and ramp access to the back door. All in all a good visit - I would gladly call again.

The Royal Exchange, Bordon

At last: Lindford has a pub again. A year after closure the Exchange has been bought from the 'pubco' which owned it by a small specialist operator, Red Mist Leisure Ltd. It has been thoroughly refurbished and transformed. Four real ales from small/braft brewers. Food not cheap but of excellent quality. Staff friendly and helpful. I've been waiting and hoping for this since I moved to the village eight years ago. Even the telephone number has changed to 01420 488118 - no more premium numbers!

The Admiral Sir Lucius Curtis, Southampton

Despite the wet morning the pubn was busy, but two barmaids, one of whom appeared to have started this morning ("What glass do I put this beer in? What button do I press for this?") meant a 15 (fifteen) minute wait for service. The Abbot was good and the food satisfactory, but on taking my wife to the disabled toilet on leaving, there was an out-of-order sign stuck on the door; not for the first time, I am willing to guess. I thought of complaining, but as the guv'nor seemed to be the (only) waiter I chose not to hold up any other customers' food service. Disappointing.

The Jolly Farmer, Blacknest

We visited for the first time since we turned up to find the fire brigade in attendance. The two doors, at right angles and with a table in the lobby, made wheelchair access difficult; I don't think a full-size chair could have got in at all. We only managed thanks to a kind stranger who assisted. The bar was warm with a good fire. Orange juice was served from a second-hand pop bottle presumably to disguise its supermarket origins. A glass, at £2.75, cost nearly three times what a litre would have cost at Waitrose. The HSB was good, but at £4.00 a pint was the most expensive I have seen. The food: rough. My fish and chips had been chucked into the deep fat fryer before it had heated up. The result was that both were greasy. A small frozen cod fillet, small portion of chips and a dish of mushy peas for £11.50. Madam chose the ploughman's. The blue cheese, which she can't eat, was swapped for a cheddar of the type one gives to small children. Two chunks of bread, white and granary, were dry and eaten only because she was hungry. The ploughman's cost an amazing £13. My complaints "Would be passed to the chef". No apologies or excuses were offered. The HSB was good or my rating would have been lower. We won't be back.

Foresters Arms, Kirdford

We have visited several times this year. Food, drink and welcome consistently good. Everything a country pub should be.

The Temple Inn, Liss Forest

It has settled down well under its new management. Beers and food consistently good. It appears to be getting a new garden and a much needed car park extension for the summer which will be welcome.
