The Olive Tree, Frome

Since the change in landlords and the arrival of the delicious Thai menu, this pub has become a 'must'. The well-kept Old Speckled Hen is also very welcome.

They've let the side down a bit in recent months because they now stock draught lager! Though other people probably see this as a positive advance (my wife being one of them)...

The Harbour Inn, Lyme Regis

This is always my hostelry of choice when going to Lyme. In fact, I've even been known to make the fifty-odd mile journey just to go there, eat very fine fish dishes and drink a well-kept pint of Otter while gazing out to sea! Bliss!

The Lamb, Frome

This pub has just reopened under new ownership (local brewer Blindmans Brewery) with a welcome array of 6 of their own ales, 2 guest ales from local independents and a cider. No lager on draught!
There is nothing rustic or old world about this pub, which has been completely refurbished in a more modern style (though I might have preferred a bit more olde worlde charm, like an open fire).
It's only just reopened (Jan 08) but once it establishes itself it ought to be one of Frome's real treasures.

The Sun Inn, Frome

A friendly and characterful pub with OK beers, but spoiled for me by being a bit of a fag-smoke trap. Will be interesting to see whether the new non-smoking legislation improves this, or forces them out of business!

The Wheatsheaf, Frome

Great for afternoon drinking; they try to keep a guest beer on (Hobgoblin and Landlord have made appearances), though it can be a bit so-so. Their main business is done in extra-cold lagers, I think. Gets a bit Goth-heavy some times!

The Olive Tree, Frome

Makes a pretty good attempt at being foody and sophisticated (though I never like to see staff having a dress code to adhere to), and when they have a guest ale to supplement the ubiquitous Directors it can be a real pleasure (a very well kept Ruddles County was on not so long back). Don't expect anything other than 'major label' beers, though. Nice outside decking area, on warm days you have to fight your way through beautiful posh young things to get at it.

The Old Globe Inn, Frome

Friendly, unpretentious locals pub with a regular guest ale. Expect TV sport.

The Lamb and Fountain, Frome

Period charm in buckets, the period being about 1971. But in the true spirit of 1971 the beer is Toby or some other Bass dishwater.

The Lamb, Frome

Terrifying. What is that opaque orange stuff the regukars drink?!

The Griffin, Frome

The best pub in town, even if a bit cliquey. Get Beer or Zig Zag stout if its on, some of the entry-level brews can be a bit insipid. Girls like elderfizz!

The George Hotel, Frome

Tries a bit too hard to be smart and corporate, without it quite coming off (all the scaffolding outside doesn't help). Have gone right off Waddies beer since living in Devizes and not being able to get anything else, but here they serve it reasonably enough; more of a lager and TV sport pub, really, with staff all dressed up like bank tellers. Food OK but nothing to get excited about.

The Blue Boar Inn, Frome

Nice enough place to fall into (with the advantage that it is open at times when others are not, like Sunday afternoons after three) but the beers are a bit bland.

The Pack Horse, Frome

Not to be faulted on its friendliness and coziness, but blimey the prices are a bit of a trauma. Usually about three well-kept real ales on (Old Speckled Hen being the best bet) but at about 2.70-ish a pint you're not likely to be drinking many of 'em.
