The Nags Head, Walthamstow

Dear David. Thank you for your very useful suggestions. You might want to try a a girlfriend or I hear there are places you can pay for certain services. That may alleviate some of that frustration and anger that's building. I don't speak Italian by the way so am unsure what 'Mwah, mwah' means. On second thoughts does it translate as 'meow, meow'?

The Nags Head, Walthamstow

davidb: if he doesn't want kids in the pub then he should stop them coming in fullstop. As for the parents being 'middle class' - have you been to any other parts of Walthamstow, or did you only turn up for the cat-themed beer festival? If Walthamstow is middle class then Haringey is surely only a step away from achieving Royal Borough status.

Maybe families want to spend an hour in the pub with other families, what's wrong with that? Maybe they interrupt your enjoyment of the Daily Mail.

The Prince, Wood Green

The old Prince hasn't had atmosphere since the late 80s when Tony ran it. It was then run by a succession of idiots who turned a once thriving local into an absolute dive - none more guilty than Rick who was so scared of the travellers he paid them money to stay away. All he managed to do was alienate the last few regulars that used to make this a great boozer.

The Nags Head, Walthamstow

An odd place. Books, real ales, fruit beers, the decor of the Wheel-Tappers & Shunters Social Club, a weekly jazz band (4 musicians playing different songs at the same time) and no food. It also has the worlds largest (known) collection of notices. There are notices for everything - no food, unless bought there (they don't sell any), no kids after 19:30, keep the noise down, no pushchairs beyond this point, bicycles go here. There are at least 3 of each plus the ones inside the pub!

Oh, and the pub cat died 3 years ago but they are too upset to discuss the matter at this time. In case you forget, there's a notice to remind you.

The Village, Walthamstow

I know what offthewagon07 means. The landlord is amisery but he supports Sunderland so that in part explian things. The crowd that hangs around the bar has, in its number, the possessor of the worlds worst pony tail. The owner, a 40 something bloke really should know better. Pubs ok though, especially the Tuesday night quiz.

The Coach and Horses, Tottenham

Glory Glory Random meeting place. Only been in there a couple of times myself on match day but it's got a great atmosphere.....if you're a Spurs fan that is.

The Village, Walthamstow

Good pub, friendly enough staff but the manager seems to only want to talk to his favourites, this despite the fact that me and the other half have been drinking in here regularly for about a year. Good in the summer because of the beer garden but no Sky TV so the pub across the road nicks a lot of that trade. If it wasn't for the attitude of the manager I'd score it highly but as it is I can only give it a 4 and probably take my custom to the Nags Head 'round the corner from now on.

The Chapel, Marylebone

I can only assume that the previous visitors to The Chapel have been on a bad night. I've always found the service to be fine and the food is without doubt amongst the best 'pub food' you'll find in London. It's always busy in the evenings until about 8ish, later on Fridays as the office crowd stop by for one or six on the way home. There's plenty of seating, a beer garden and did I mention the food? Go in on Sunday for the roast pork. Weekends are incredibly quiet. I often take my kids in there for lunch. I'm really surprised at the negative posts for this pub, honestly, give it a chance.

The Westbury, Wood Green

I ran into a few old schoolmates in here. That's the best thing I can say about it. I can't argue with what's already been said.

The Flying Eagle, Edgware

It is a huge pub. Two main bars, one of which is a games/TV lounge. Both bars have a drop down projector screen for sports events, but the real attraction is the food. The Flying Eagle is one of the new breed of Indian owned pubs that combine traditional pub atmosphere and fantastic Indian food. The crowd is a good mix of locals, who have obviously drunk there for years and people looking for a good bit of nosebag. There is a huge car park, kids are allowed in and it's pretty cheap too. I've never seen a fight or even the makings of one in there.

Michelle the manager is a bit of a babe too. What more do you want? Good beer, great food and decent staff.

Beehive Inn, Bradford

Great pub. I used to go in there with my mate and his sister, who lives in Bradford. Very unusual layout. It has two main bar areas and a series of little rooms that seem to be everywhere. Very aptly named pub.

The Kings Head and Dive Bar, Chinatown

Is Michael, the barman from the Kings still working in the area?

The Brewmaster, Leicester Square

What happened to Froggy? Damn good barman.

The Jolly Anglers, Wood Green

This was my local for years. I was a member of 'wan*ers corner' along with Phil, Snob, Matt, Mark...... and everyone else. Once Caroline left and the new people took over it turned into a real dive. I read that it's been done up and is trying to attract it's old customers back. Well I might just give it a go.

The Cock Tavern, Walthamstow

I used to drink in here in the early/mid 80's. The beer used to be 10p dearer in the 'posh' side! There was a gorgeous barmaid called Jo back then.

BRB at The Gate, Alexandra Park

I love this pub. I was drinking here many moons ago when it was The Starting Gate (in acknowledgement to it's proximity to the Old Alexandra Park racecourse). It had a big facelift which saw all the old regulars disappear, largely due to the huge hike in prices. That said, the high prices tend to deter the local kids discovering pubs for the first time. It is s real local too. I often run into my neighbours in there and the bar staff are top notch, especially Paul. Get him to do some glass juggling al Tom Cruise in Cocktail for you! The other staff are all very friendly too, especially Olly who is always in a good mood no matter what. Service can be a problem due to the circular 'island' type bar. But that's a consideration in all pubs with this kind of layout. They allow kids in so long as they behave themselves, they show all the major sports and the food is great and cheap, which I suppose makes up for the beer prices. Avoid it on nights when there are gigs etc at Ally Pally. It gets rammed. recommended night is Tuesday. 2-4-1 Pizza's!!
