Coming from Bedford it was with some trepidation that I entered this Charles Wells pub. I don't do it at home if I can help it, let alone when on my travels, but as needs must because the Mousetrap Inn was closed for another hour or so. On a warm, sunny day it was nice to sit out the back by the river with a pint of the guest beer - Theakston XB. The lad behind the bar was friendly and the prices surprisingly good for the area.

Well, it was open at 3pm unlike the pub down the road. The selection was decent to be fair, had a few tasters and decided on the Wells IPA. Our table stayed uncleared, don't know if the staff knew that the coffee cups and trays were ours, we just pushed them to the end of the long tabale. Not a bad place during our vist.

Visited Bourton-on-the-water last weekend and spend an evening in this pub. Good selection of beers and ciders. Everyone in there appeared friendly. Nice proper pub. Bar manager at around 9pm told me he was tired and couldn't wait to go to bed.....okay thanks for that.

Well nothing much has changed in a year. Riverside area which should be the main pulling attraction is in an awful state. Bird excrement, dog ends and uncleared tables pervade.

Beer is good and staff friendly and efficient inside but the major asset is neglected. Poor management and total lack of vision and application.
