Coming from Bedford it was with some trepidation that I entered this Charles Wells pub. I don't do it at home if I can help it, let alone when on my travels, but as needs must because the Mousetrap Inn was closed for another hour or so. On a warm, sunny day it was nice to sit out the back by the river with a pint of the guest beer - Theakston XB. The lad behind the bar was friendly and the prices surprisingly good for the area.

Well, it was open at 3pm unlike the pub down the road. The selection was decent to be fair, had a few tasters and decided on the Wells IPA. Our table stayed uncleared, don't know if the staff knew that the coffee cups and trays were ours, we just pushed them to the end of the long tabale. Not a bad place during our vist.

Visited Bourton-on-the-water last weekend and spend an evening in this pub. Good selection of beers and ciders. Everyone in there appeared friendly. Nice proper pub. Bar manager at around 9pm told me he was tired and couldn't wait to go to bed.....okay thanks for that.

Well nothing much has changed in a year. Riverside area which should be the main pulling attraction is in an awful state. Bird excrement, dog ends and uncleared tables pervade.

Beer is good and staff friendly and efficient inside but the major asset is neglected. Poor management and total lack of vision and application.

New to the area, now live in Bourton, I can understand why the locals slag off tourists but understand without the tourist money, Bourton would become run down. HOWEVER, walking into this pub ran a chill down my spine.....The young bar staff was friendly and looked relieved when I enquired about part-time work there for one of my kids. We decided to stay for a while and have a drink. Not a great selection of beer, back of the pub was dirty with rubbish.

Not a great advert for the beer garden. .....sorry picnic benches under the willow trees. Heard a bloke shouting and walking into the kitchen with a lit cigarette. It was then I decided not visit this place again nor my kids work there either.

I gave this pub a rating of 1, thats only because the bar staff

Good pub. Picturesque setting. But there is truth abundant in emsy_babes1234 words...
Though I know emsy not, poor thing, I know that only the most mistreated of young worker would make such a public declaration of their mistreatment. And I will spread your message, for I believe that any publican that can treat his workers and patrons, so cruelly, is not deserving of help, nor custom.
I drank tea in this pub, but as I drank the tea by the weir, I did ponder upon composing a story; a story about a parochial purveyor of alcohol, who scares away all tourists...
A publican from Bourton on the Water, who one evening falls into his fast-flowing weir, and cries out for help. And his poorly-treated staff and rudely-served customers come to his aid. They wag their fingers: "Oh your screams are muffled by the icy waters, but your heart is colder yet! If we save you, you must change, you must help the starving!" And in his vulnerability, his anger disappeared, he cries out "Anything! Just save me!"
Then when he is rescued, he keeps his word: sells his pub, moves to Niger, and helps the masses. One day, realising that he is living a fulfilled, loving existence, he remebers his past. A past lived in such contempt for mankind; a past running a public house in Bourton on the Water, and he feels shame.

Stayed here recently. 6 handpumps with NO REAL ALE. Disappointing

I worked for this pub and can safely say the owner and the manager are about the nastiest people i have ever met. they made me feel thoroughly unwelcome, i only lasted a month! Its a shame really as the rest of the staff are lovely and the place has the potential to be wonderful.

stayed in this pub again and what a change walked in on the afternoon of the victorian evening to hear the bar man slaging of the tourists not a good start the beer was okay once he found we was staying he changed he's tune rather quickly. was shocked to be told we was being charged 15 pound extra because it was a special night never told that when we booked. ate in the restaurant in the evening the wifes starter was not cooked through and neither was my pudding. staff seemed more interested in going home. all in all not a good couple of nights ate somewhere else second night this pub has really gone down hill

Beer is OK if a bit too chilled (now a Youngs house) but this is one of the locals pubs in town and they are pretty fed up with tourists. All feels a bit synthetic and unwelcoming.

Dire service and food to match. Staff unfriendly and interested more in playing pool and gassing with their mates.

I would go elsewhere.
