user reviews of the Sun Inn, Crook

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I ate here one midweek evening last week on a cold October night. There is a real fire on the left of the large-ish square room one first enters with the bar directly opposite. Then there are then two further (open plan) dining rooms to the left. A number of calor gas fires were needed to keep the place warm on my visit but it was busy with diners and the atmosphere was attractive.
The beer was a Holts (I think) guest and Theakston's Best Bitter and Coniston Bluebird.
The food was good. I ate a fine steak following potted shrimps but other vegetarian and fish main courses looked equally good in a reasonable simple style. It is well worth knowing about as a rather less formal environment than the Punch Bowl at Crosthwaite.

Great pub in a lovely stretch of country. What a delight it was to see this place on a hard afternoon scramble from Kendal to Windermere!

A very friendly pub set in a very beautiful area, we was staying at Bowland Bridge and this pub was a little far to travel to every night but, if we had been staying nearer we would have, the food is lovely a lot of lake District pubs have started doing a la carte style but, this is good old fashioned home cooking, lovely atmosphere, and we will be re-visiting here in a few weeks!

Sun Inn: food OK; Campari and Soda drowned -to be fair, I said nothing about this or it might have been rectified. Starter: seafood salad good - although ingredients substituted for what was on the menu,it was fine. Game casserole proved to be venison casserole only. Carrots either reheated or forgotten about. Coffee OK. When we commented on casserole, waitress effectively sent us to Coventry - no tip left therefore.
