Recently paid my first visit to this pub in several years - purely because there was a band playing. It's a tiny old fashioned pub that's off the beaten track, and to be honest I'm surprised it has managed to remain open. It's a McMullens pub so I walked in with low expectations of the quality of ale on draught. However, on visits to another local McMullens pub the Queens Arms I have found their bottled 'Strongheart' and 'Hertford Castle' ales very acceptable and great value for money. So as it was a McMullens pub I asked if they had either of those bottled ales from this brewery - only to be met with a blank look and told they don't stock them! One pint of the mediocre at best McMullens cask ale on offer was enough and I headed off elsewhere in search of a decent pint.

I've been in this pub a handful of times over the past 10 years but my last visit I found very disturbing....I was in with my wife and kids and the dirty man behind the bar I saw using a urinal, not washing his hands and then straight back behind bar serving customers!!!-and I've been told since chatting to friends that it has gone massively downhill since they took it over-one to AVOID!!

Have popped in a couple of times recently. The decor has had a revamp which makes it a clean and comfortable pub, nice beers and very friendly staff. The locals are also very sociable, will visit this pub more often in future.

McMullens house situated in a residential area to the west of the town centre. Beware of the pub's website and also other websites such as WhatPub that show this pub opening early. The latter showed it opening as 8:30. But opening times on the door show that 11:30 is correct. The pub has a couple of rooms and appears to have diversified into dining, whilst still maintaining a community function. 3 McMullens ales were on - AK, Country Bitter & Hops & Glory. I went for the AK which wasn't the best I've ever tried. Staff were friendly enough. Only 2 other customers were in, shortly after opening.

The lounge half is now described as a 'Bistro' but the public bar is still very much a locla brewer's old school public bar. The McMullen's 'Screaming Reels' went down well enough.
