Small pub with 3 or 4 draft beers, TV, and a food menu (untried), conveniently located half way between Caversham center and Reading station (north exit).

I'm not sure if this is a pub that serves Thai food or a Thai restaurant that serves ale. On our Tuesday afternoon visit, it felt slightly more like a pub with only fellow drinkers and no diners. 4 ales were on - Sharps Doom Bar, Wadworth Dirty Rucker & Wells Bombardier & Bombardier Burning Gold. We went for the Wadworth ale, which wasn't the best. We might have tried a curry. But the specials didn't start until 6pm and there were better pubs awaiting us elsewhere in Reading.

Grangoo has it spot on. From the outside, it looked like a wonderful pub - obviously had a bit of money spent on it. From the inside, its a Thai restaurant. Having walked in, it would have been rude to walk out, so I had a Brakspear Bitter. Wonderful colour but chilled to within an inch of its life. Its rather a shame I had eaten, otherwise I would have been tempted.

Not sure if the Moderation is a pub or the Bangkok branch of Laura Ashley. Lots of Buddhas, leopard print and orchids. Some nice sensitive chaps were enjoying rugger whilst reading the broadsheets. Jumpers round shoulders and doing crosswords. I ordered a pint and spent half an hour being utterly baffled. I still am. Probably a great pub if you are Laurence Llewelyn Bowen.

I'm going to miss the Mod so much! It's my local but I'm moving away. It's a really really great pub. When you first walk in you might think the decor's a bit odd for a pub but once you get past that, the atmosphere's wonderful, everyone seems happy and friendly. Most of the time when I go it's full but not so full you can't find a table, and the oustide space is lovely too. The food is great - especially the thai food, the beer (I've heard, I don't drink beer) is good quality and I have a good time every single time I go there. The quiz on a Sunday is tons of fun, and does a really good job of staving off those back to work blues. I hope I find an equivalent...
