user reviews of the Pier View, Cowes

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This place used to be a tiny old hotel wi a few rooms to let. It were done up lat year though. They ditched the digs, and expanded into the clothes shop next door. They've done a decent job of incorporating the new shop (which was a more modern structure) into the bar without its standing out as an uninviting characterless area (like so many new pub extensions are). It was a place that was uninviting and an uncomforatble suppin experience for those that hadn't arrived in town by yacht, or at least brandishing a CV boasting international sailing experience. Being looked down on by bar staff is not what you're lookin for in a night out. Since it were done up and extended, they've ditched some o the sailin paraphernalia, and the staff are more numerous and less snooty, but give great service. The grub is now better too. They do a great range of home-made burgers which are the best in Cowes and the safest bet on the menu (safest now they cook em right anyway!). They use Smash mashed potatoes though, so steer clear of the bangers and mash, and the otherwise good fiushermans pie. The only thing that's got worse is the beer: they went from offering a local Isle of Wight brew by Goddards to having Spitfire and London Pride which are both very ordinary and not kept particularly well.

The first drink I had here was Christmas of 1969? Has it changed very much?
