In 1996 i lived about 30 secs away from this pub. Thats said I didnt go in that often but found it a civilized hostility. Cant comment on the truth or otherwise of EDL connections but it would be sad if it was true.

Avoid this pub at all costs!

As a local resident I urge people NOT to visit this pub, it is hostile environment which has very well known connections with the EDL since the closure of the Alma Arms - just type Connaught Arms into google and you will easily find the connections. There are constant groups of people outside this pub, they shout and swear and regularly get into fights along the road. Any responsible landlady would steer well clear of the EDL if they had any pride in their pub... I think the posts and the news coverage speak volumes of where the landlady's values lie. The scariest thing is that this pub is so close to both an Infant School and a school for young people with behavioural issues.

In response to the comments from regular Poplarkin - why on earth would any pub landlady willingly allow her pub to become a focal point for such a disgusting organisation? Whether the police asked or not! Funny how they've been moved on from the John Jaques - I'm sure Whetherspoon's wants no association with this movement! Such a shame the patrons of this pub bring such a bad reputation with them. I have visited this pub on a number of occasions in the past but would not step foot in there now for fear of my safety - and I don't scare easily!

Amg. Yes the posts were made before the last march, but its not the first time the EDL had been in, and again at the request of the Police. There was no obligation for the landlady to comply, but when requested by the Police to help stop a breach of the peace we, as regulars believe she was in order to help. They will NOT be returning to the pub. This is the second time we have posted to let people know that we are a friendly pub, can you see a pattern emerging. I again urge all to come and see for yourselves.

Poplarkin - there was no obligation on the landlady to agree to the Police's request. Consider the posts below, made well before the demo in question and to all appearances by unconnected individuals. See a.pattern emerging? Drunken, loud, abusive racists???
