This isnt a pub I visit that often, but i was in a couple of weeks ago and still found the beers top notch. It always has a nice atmosphere and I found landlord very helpful. Food is typical pub grub, just what you would expect... Blue Scrumpy's comments are usuallly well balanced, so guessing he hit on a bad day...

The Malt Shovel was the first offering of the day for us in Leicestershire. You could easily think you're in Lancashire whilst visiting a Thwaites pub. So I'm sure I'll be seeing more Thwaites this weekend! Thwaites Original, Wainwright, Lancaster Bomber & Nutty Black were all on, in addition to Beartown Bearly Literate. I had the Nutty Black that was almost pure vinegar - I don't often leave a drink and should really have returned this. Staff were setting up for Sunday lunch with many tables having reserved signs. Apparently a CAMRA discount should have been offered. But it wasn't. Poor.

Very nice "Proper" pub... This is a Thwaites pub (unusual in this area), that had Original, Lancaster Bomber, Wainwrights & Nutty Black on my last visit, plus Isle of Arran Red Squirrel beer.

Good pub grub, friendly landlord and locals. Has a cricket theme (not surprising as the quintessential Barkby CC's ground is around the corner).
