| The Bridewell closed down and has re-opened again under new ownership. The owners used to run or be involved in Rigby's and the Fly In The Loaf. Little appears to have changed inside. You can still sit in the old cells. Ales were Kirkstall Pale Ale & Dexter, Banks's Amber, Thwaite's Wainwright & Wylam I Blame The Daylight. | A visit around 6pm on a Friday night to this attractive looking ex police station Bridwell that has individual cells inside which act as 'mini' booths with the doors remaining open!! The bar area is quite small and is to your left as you enter, it has more of a wine bar feel to it than a pub. On the bar are 4 hand pumps each with a different ale on. I go for a pint of Sandinista @ 3.9% from local brewery Red Star. It was poured well but was not a great pint. The wife and I took our drinks and when and sat in the front courtyard garden. Pretty busy here with various groups from student types to families and ladies who lunch! A tick from the 2015 GBG but it wasn’t up to the standard of the other pubs I visited during the day and I have to note that the Gents' toilets stank of p**s, do they never clean them or use toilet duck! lezford - 23 Oct 2015 14:13 |
| Miraculously this pub was actually open yesterday lunchtime. But service was very slow. It took just over 10 minutes to get served, when it wasn't busy. They need more than one bar staff serving. The ale selection was Titanic Plum Porter, Liverpool Organic Pale Ale, JW Lees Marco Pierre White The Governor & Mad Hatter Hope Street Hop. I opted for a bottle from Mad Hatter, which was good. Real cider is no longer stocked. Still a decent place to visit for its novelty value. But if you do find it open, be prepared for a long wait! blue_scrumpy - 19 Apr 2015 10:38 |

| With just enough time before my train home, I made a beeline from the distinctly average Crosby Hotel (in Crosby, but not listed on here) to the Bridewell. I hadn't been for a while and thought I'd give it another try. Walked here only to find they had closed the pub for the day, due to a wedding for one of its staff members!
