Passed this pub on the way to the Camp & Furnace on Saturday. I'm sad to say that the Nook is now closed and boarded up.

I thought I'd give this place a visit to see what a 1960s Liverpool pub would have looked like. I got a good idea. But unfortunately the interior is falling apart rapidly. The customers are a mixture of local youths and drunks. One treated us to a few rousing choruses of what I don't know. No real ales. No cider whatsoever. But sitting back and taking it all in, you could just about sense how this pub once was. I'm glad I've been but am not sure if I ever want to go back.

In a few years time this may be cherished as an unspoilt example of a down at heel 1960s Liverpool boozer including a genuine Formica topped bar, but currently it is just sadly deficient although maybe worth visiting as a curiosity. A three room layout, bar, lounge and a corridor type area, all redecorated but in an older style. Nine dreary kegs but the sad stumps of 4 hand pulls remain, a silent reminder perhaps, of former glory as a Higsons house. Mainly older customers and staff, some preferring tinned Carling to the bulk version on the bar. Friendly locals, as friendly as 10 pints of cheap lager will make anyone, certainly a pub with character. The plaque outside describes its place in Chinatown history.

This pub is an absolute dump. The carpet (That threadbare thing on the floor with the lino poking through) must be from the 1950s. Theres no hand dryer in the loo, no soap, no toilet paper either. Its very dark, which is probably a good thing, and i love the pool table in the middle of the lounge. (Gotta keep the low life happy eh ??). This pub is in need of a huge makeover, preferable with the use of vast quantities of TNT.

Right in the heart of Liverpool's Chinatown, this place has had a major tidy up on the outside & looks a lot more inviting than it used to be. The inside seems to be going through a makeover too. Friendly & relaxed we sat at the bar enjoying a couple of excellent pints of Bass Mild, & would have been happy to spend a few hours in here if time had allowed. As you can imagine you won't go hungry if you get the munchies after a beer or two (unless you don't like Chinese food!).Will certainly be back soon.
