Has been subject of a refurb relatively recently, good pub grub but since they got rid of the jukebox not a place on my drinking list and with it being Greene King, it serves terrible ale and cider on draught.

Chavved-up former coaching inn. The only "ale" on offer is the dire Greene King IPA. If you want to drink outside in the sun (does anyone WANT to drink IPA?) you are obliged to do so in what is basically the car park at filthy and graffiti'd tables. One to avoid.

It's all been cleaned up! Still the same dodgy looking customers, but lovely wing-back chairs, and carpet.

Looks quite nice from the outside, so went in. Got told in an incredibly grumpy tone that they don't accept card payments for anything. Left immediately. A load of rubbish, and plenty of better pub choices around Hitchin.

This is the traditional pub in Hitchin where all youngsters first go to drink when they are old enough...or even not quite old enough but think they can get away with it. The landlord turns a blind eye, as does the police as at least they are all in the same place where they can keep an eye on them. I am a bit old for the place now but I still have a soft spot for it. Run down it might be but every town needs a pub like this. It is where young drinkers cut their teeth before moving on. And it has a great jukebox as well.
