| This pub has undergone a transformation and is now called The Thomas Cubitt. It's effectively a posh pub where you go to eat, rather than drink. Now down to one real ale, although it was a well-kept Old Speckled Hen. Food is pricey and I didn't have any. pubcollector - 30 Dec 2005 20:55 |
| Previously would have agreed with the other comments, however today went in a group of 9 for lunch (pre-booked a table). When the food finally arrived 45 minutes later, 2 dishes were inedible, and another 2 were incorrect. On trying to offer some constructive criticism, was informed (fairly aggresively) that: "this is a pub, you shouldn't come here for food, there are plenty of other restaurants around". After complaining to the manager, he took the almost overly generous step of offering his business card, so we could "phone our food order in beforehand" next time. | Last pub we visited on our crawl and this was a very welcoming pub. The beer was nice and the barman had a chat about the local pubs in the area. It has a very nice relaxing atmosphere and is a mix of locals and "need a drink" tourists from Victoria staion. We caught the train after our second pint a bit tipsy after a long day.
