| surprised by the reviews here as i loved this place. i admit i did not eat here, so cannot comment there, but i we spent a really enjoyable eveing there. the service was with a smile, and the atmosphere in the bar was really nice. the beer selection was great too, the helvellyn gold was very good. a decent pub, ideally placed after a long walk up helvellyn itself. | Deeply disappointing pub which should and could be so good if the owners weren't shamelessly profiteering. A tenner for homemade chilli, chips and rice. When it came without rice, a crap excuse about it being rice or chips. As for homemade; whose home? H.J Heinz'. Relying on passing trade and taking the mick.
