user reviews of the Old Red Lion, Aldborough

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This is a lovely old pub with a really homely feel - exposed beams and an open fire place.

We hadn't booked but were lucky enough to get a table by the window overlooking the village green for Sunday lunch. The roast dinner was very tasty with flavoursome gravy! I had sticky toffee pudding for desert, which finished the meal off nicely!

We will definitely be visiting again.

Woodfordes ale trail 2011 stamp 20 (nos 171). Nice enough village pub overlooking a big green, the pub has a couple of ales and was initially quite promising. The Woodfordes wherry was clear and good. The low score isbecause of the food. We phoned to book then ordered three sunday lunches. It took an hour and a hlaf to bring them, and then it was overcooked. I honestly could have cooked the whole thing from scratch in less time. We were not the only ones to face such a delay. They kept telling us it would be ready in 5 minutes etc. The landlord came out and presented us with three complimentary glasses of port, which were neither wanted nor drank, nice to offer us something but port? Just odd. The waiter likened the whole place to faulty towers. Ok for a pint but I would not recommend eating here.

This pub has an excellent location overlooking the large village green in Aldborough. There were 2 real ales on our Saturday lunchtime visit - Adnams Bitter & Woodforde Wherry. Cider was from Kingstone Press. The serving staff were extremely friendly. But we were the only people in the pub. A typical rural pub, and probably the second best of 10 Norfolk pubs we visited on the day.
