user reviews of the Angel, Burford

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I found this pub to be ok. Very friendly staff, in fact over the top friendly, they need to tone this down. Beer was Hook Norton Old Hooky which tasted a bit tired. The food was good and so it should be at tourist prices. 1 beer and 2 courses food £22.
Judge for yourself.

Can only agree with Mallard's previous post.

The Angel used to be very good for food but was never very good value for money ('Burford' and 'value for money' do not belong in the same sentence).

Now it's just like all the other places in quaint olde Burford: gouging the tourists in the traditional Cotswold style.

Walk up the hill to the Cotswold Gateway Hotel. This is mediocre and expensive, but a quantum leap improvement from the Angel.

Am more than happy to give this place a zero - went in at ten to three as the genial 'mein host' was abruptly informing those just ahead of me that they were not serving any more food only for my self to be told the bar was closed just after. This being in spite of it being 10 minutes before their advertised bar closing time and the local clique so obviously set for the rest of the afternoon. Nasty little ' rip the tourists off joint'.

Tried this pub / hotel after a long walk through the cotswold countryside. The landlord and landlady were very friendly and welcoming and remained attentive throughout our visit. Beer was very well kept (usual Hook Norton brews) and the food was very good. The lunch menu was particularly good value and is well worth seeking out in Burford where prices can be a little inflated.

Would not hesitate to return when in the area.

Walked in and is an overpriced restaurant with a small bar in the corner. Won't rate as didn't stop for drink. Owner a bit camp
