| More of a dining pub than a drinkers' pub, our only choice was to sit at the bar, as all tables were laid out for diners and there were people waiting for them. This is a fairly large place with a large waterwheel outside, in addition to at least one peacock wandering around and several other interesting features. It did all feel a little pretentious though and prices weren't cheap. | Typical gastro-pub, with limited provision for drinkers - but a decent selection of ales; that are well kept. Food is good and priced a typical gastro levels; but the place was/ is a welcome addition given the surprising paucity of decent eateries in this part of Devon. Excellent garden and grounds. Only caveats are that some of the customers are on the cusp of blingy for Devon, witness the car park, and those U18 are not admitted - EVEN TO THE RESTAURANT - after 7pm. (And I'm talking one minute past seven). If seeking an evening meal nearby with U18s in tow; try the Avonwick Inn up the road. | Visited for the first time on Sunday (early Nov �08). It's just off the A38 near South Brent. Very impressive converted old mill - smart and cosy but not pretentious. Good selection of well kept real ales and lots of efficient staff (at least there were on the day I went). Good menu, reasonably priced, and well presented food (I had plaice and chips - great mushy peas, everyone else had rib of beef - also great).
