"How do you make roast potatoes chewy?"

By reheating them in a deep fryer is sometimes one way, or even just keeping them hot too long.

I had the very odd experience of going for a pint in a Shepherd Neame pub in Faversham on the Saturday and then stopping off for lunch in Lenham after a walk on Sunday and sitting in exactly the same room!

Ok. Not really. The same décor though. And the same pictures on the walls and the same feature glass cabinet of wine bottles. The same beers on offer (of course) and also pretty much the same food. The food was OK. (Nice bit of roast lamb but shocking roast potatoes, chewy for some reason, I mean chewy for Gawd’s sake? How do you make roast potatoes chewy?), the staff were nice, Lenham is a really sweet little place, but this veered horribly toward an identikit Harvester style experience. Nice view over the square.

Large pub and restaurant. The pub side is on the right, the restaurant rooms on the left. There's some exposed beams, and the place is clean, tidy and well run. It's relaxed with a pleasant buzz on a Sunday lunchtime. Three cask ales - Masterbrew, Spitfire and on our visit the Autumn seasonal, Late Red. The beers were in good condition. Meals were from £8 to £10. There's nothing special about the place, but it's quite pleasant.

The Dog and Bear is situated in a lovely building on the picturesque market square. The pub, however, is a bit disappointing. I like Shepherd Neame beers, but in recent time, they seem to only have two core ones on tap (Spitfire and Masterbrew), and lack the seasonal ales, which are Shep's best ales. The food and restaurant is also average at best (I have been there about four times for Sunday lunch and dinner) in hope that i may be wrong, but have been disappointed each occasion. Also, if there is such a thing as a chav pub in Lenham, this is it, as the few chavs that are about in Lenham seem to frequent the Dog and Bear.
