Probably need to revisit when they are not swamped with cyclists, took a long time to get served (Aspall's cider) on our last 2 visits. Sign outside mentions a refurb coming up.

A nice pub on the first two visits, but slowly became aware of cliquey atmosphere, confirmed when landlord was unwelcoming to my partner and the locals whispered at the end of the bar with the barstaff when I walked past. If you want somewhere to snuggle on a sofa with your nearest and dearest, this isn't the pub to go to. Shame, as it sells nice food and good beer. They've just lost two customers.

Now has bar billiards, which is reason enough to prompt a future visit.

Having attended the same function i fully endorse the comments below. Excellent service and a very pleasant drinking enviroment. If you are in the area its certainly worth a visit.

Although I've lived in the area for 30 years, I have never been in this pub before last night when I attended a retirement party. The numbers were large and the thirst considerable. Nonetheless, the staff coped heroically and I never had to wait more than a minute or so for service (with a smile). Normally a still cider drinker, I opted for bitter when I saw St. Austell "Tribute" was available. The beer was cool and well kept. I shall make a return visit shortly for a fuller evaluation-especially as a bus runs directly from the door of my local to the door of the Crown!
