Probably need to revisit when they are not swamped with cyclists, took a long time to get served (Aspall's cider) on our last 2 visits. Sign outside mentions a refurb coming up.

A nice pub on the first two visits, but slowly became aware of cliquey atmosphere, confirmed when landlord was unwelcoming to my partner and the locals whispered at the end of the bar with the barstaff when I walked past. If you want somewhere to snuggle on a sofa with your nearest and dearest, this isn't the pub to go to. Shame, as it sells nice food and good beer. They've just lost two customers.

Now has bar billiards, which is reason enough to prompt a future visit.

Having attended the same function i fully endorse the comments below. Excellent service and a very pleasant drinking enviroment. If you are in the area its certainly worth a visit.

Although I've lived in the area for 30 years, I have never been in this pub before last night when I attended a retirement party. The numbers were large and the thirst considerable. Nonetheless, the staff coped heroically and I never had to wait more than a minute or so for service (with a smile). Normally a still cider drinker, I opted for bitter when I saw St. Austell "Tribute" was available. The beer was cool and well kept. I shall make a return visit shortly for a fuller evaluation-especially as a bus runs directly from the door of my local to the door of the Crown!

The unfriendliest pub I have been in to date.

Large and sofa-y pub which was welcoming to a large reunion group. Steak and kidney pie I believe, and the beer was good.

This pub was a really pleasant surprise. It doesn't look all that from outside but inside it's a handsome and welcoming pub with a nice friendly atmosphere. The food is divine! We've struggled of late to find a pub in this sort of area which doesn't try too hard with their food and it seems every other dish contains pine nuts or butternut squash. The Crown serves proper traditional pub food but of a good quality and much is home made. Hubby had a Crown Burger which was generous and good quality meat. I had a vegetarian lasagna which was very nice and the garlic bread was amongst the best I've tasted. The veggie selection was reasonable and the menu overall had plenty to choose from, from sandwiches to steak. The desserts were also very pleasant. The service was friendly although they could have been a teensy bit more attentive (we had to ask for a dessert menu rather than being asked if we would like dessert) but this was a Saturday lunchtime on a bank holiday weekend so this was understandable. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely be going back. Highly recommended for those who like good, no nonsense pub food.
