user reviews of the Hooden On The Hill, Willesborough

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I visited the Hooden on the Hill on Thursday 17th October,I love my real ales and so was pleased to see that they had 4 ales available I could only try two Adnams Ghost Ship and Hobgoblin from the Wychwood Brewery, both were in excellent condition and thoroughly enjoyed next time i wont be driving so I can sample them all. Although I didnt have time to eat the food being looked excellent and the prices very resonable. The bar staff were very attentive and proffesional. All in all I found this a very pleasant pub and will certainly be visting again and would recommend it. A real hidden gem in Ashford.

The Hooden on the Hill has been a favourite pub of mine: last Xmas it hosted the works Xmas ‎bash. It seemed the ideal venue for a leaving meal for one of my colleagues. Bearing in mind ‎the vagaries of our late shift we gave them the orders for our meals at 7pm on the ‎understanding that we would be eating at 8.20pm. At 7.30pm they told us that certain menu ‎choices werent available, and so we re-ordered way before 7.45pm. Our starters eventually ‎arrived at 9.15pm, and at 10.15pm we told them we werent prepared to wait any longer.‎
A very threatening landlord was found who tried to claim that wed booked for 6pm (not true), ‎and that wed not ordered until 8.45pm (not true). In the end it was rather embarrassing in that ‎we thought it only fair we should pay for what wed eaten, and the most drunk of our party ‎‎(me) ended up shaking hands with an equally pissed-up barman.‎

For myself it was a memorable evening I wouldnt have missed it for the world. But as I said ‎‎(very loudly) at the time, if you are going to put your pub on Facebook, dont piss off your so-‎called friends.‎

A (potentially) really good pub with a decent selection of ales and a mild but spoiled by sport on the TV. This place has put a TV projector into an outside area so the smokers can scream at the TV and upset everyone in the garden whilst having their fags.
It seems odd that the people who own the pub have spent so much time and money making such a lovely beer garden only to spoil it in this way, but what do I know?
