What a great pub! We dined at this lovely pub/restaurant last year and although it was a little out of our way we finally made it back with a group of friends and will be doing so again. A lovely Australian girl looked after us so well but we were told she has since returned home to have a baby. We were not disappointed this time around either as the owners choice of staff is excellent still. It is more about just dining out, the staff make you feel like they want you there not like alot of other pubs you visit these days where you seem to be an inconvenience.
The menu is fantastic and no one in our booking of 10 had trouble finding something to suit them.
Our meals were worth every penny and the great range of wines definately suits all aspects of the menu.
We very much liked how at the end of the evening the landlord cared enough to come out of the kitchen and ask how we enjoyed our evening and how we 1st heard about his pub. You can tell he values his customers and for people who live close to the area I would recommend dropping in for a pint with the lovely bunch of locals who invited us to share a drink with them at the end of the night.
We look forward to returning to this lovely pub - if only there were more like it nearer london.

THE HATCHGATE BRAMSHILL DARE NOT COMPLAIN !!!!!
Sun 20th Sept I took my wife for lunch at the pub and although we enjoyed the meal, I was overcharged due to an ambiguity on the menu.
When you are given you the option of One course, Two courses or Two courses with cheeseboard I naturally assumed that the latter was a starter, a main course and a cheeseboard.
Otherwise it should have read One course, One course plus cheeseboard etc which would have been clear.
Somewhat surprised to have been apparently overcharged by nearly 10 I asked for a copy of the menu as I wished to write to the management to complain as I did not agree that this was fair.
The manager came down, a tall, bald, quite intimidating figure who when I politely started with Hello mate was immediately rude and said no-one had ever made this mistake in 7 years and only an idiot would think that.
I pointed out that I am not an idiot, but to be cut off with I dont give a s--- what you think mate it is what it is.
I said That is terrible customer service, how can you talk to a customer who has just spent 50 here? He repeated that he did not give a s--- and that I could f--- off and take my custom elsewhere.
I immediately left and will not be returning. After 30 years of regular, happy visits to this venue with my family I feel as though I have been mugged. I hope my account helps others to make a decision go elsewhere or be bullied, intimidated and abused if you exercise your consumers right to make a complaint.
I will be reporting this incident to trading standards in the hope that some action can be taken.

Excellant pub. Although out in the sticks it is well worth the trip. Food is outstanding with servings of Bison, crocodile, antelope, camel Kangeroo etc. Beer is well kept. Staff friendly and non pushy. In fact last time I went, my partner and I were the only peope still in the pub at midnight.
