user reviews of the Norton, Cold Norton

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Basic-looking Essex village pub without the obvious allure of the beer-houses of Stow Maries and Southminster, but a must-visit on the basis of superb beer (Titanic) quality. Particularly impressive as was quiet on Sat afternoon.

Trekked over from ramsden on a saturday night to watch goldstar play their first gig. Well worth a visit. The whole family had a great time.

They had four pumps but disappointingly only 2 were on. Doom bar and elbow grease were the offering. At the end of the evening doom bar finished and shropshire gold appeared. They offer a 10p a pint discount for camra members. The staff are volunteers working for free! Good atmosphere in the pub with the friendly locals and the band we're great too.

This pub has been closed down for two years.

It has now re-opened ( 8/08/2009)under control of the village and is sponsored by a television show " The Peoples Pub" - a reality TV show about communities taking over closed or dying local pubs and running them through volunteers.

Opening weekend was brilliant. Beers: Farmers Pucks Folly and Nelson's Blood and Mighty Oak Maldon Gold all brewed locally. Plus all of the usual lagers, guinness, cider, wines and spirits.

The support from the village was outstanding. The hard work is now ahead to keep up the enthusiasm and the standard. At present pub is opening Thursday - Sunday only but there are plans to expand the hours.
