This Hotel says it is dog friendly but with a lot of restrictions, went there with my small dog the place is clean and has a lovely large garden. Bought two pints and went to sit down in the bar area and was told we could only sit in the garden or the covered smoking shelter that has a heater as they do food inside.

If the weather is inclement the garden is out only leaving the smoking area and if you do not like cigarette smoke poses a problem.

If you have a dog, only go there during the summer months on a good day.

Really posh hotel & dining area. Bar is a bit of a "local pub for local people". Like so many places, it needs to decide to whom it wants to cater.
We had pints of a decent local ale and sat in the garden, feeling as though we'd be intruding by being in the bar.

Having read the reviews on this site, my partner and I were of mixed opinion as to whether we should stay here or not, but having been reccomended by friends we decided to, and how glad we were, whilst the hotel is due to under go a massive refurbishment, and admitedly, it does look a bit tired on the inside, the welcome we received was great, the service was excellent from both the bar staff and waiting staff and as for the food, well what can I say, great choice of menu, great presentation and all in all just terrific, if you havnt yet tried this place for food, you simply must, we visit the area quite often and this is by far one of the nicest places to eat or drink.

I booked for 4 under the Daily Telegraph 2 for 1 Gastro Pub offer. There were no Telegraph printed menus as is usually the norm. 3 opted for Lamb and Mint Pie,and 1 chicken in black bean sce. We tipped them onto our plates, it was all gravy with 1 or 2 chunks of lamb, with undercooked puff pastry. The veg for 4 people consisted of 8 new potatoes, mushy corgettes, curried cabbage!! carrots. Price on menu for homemade pie was 8.95. We were charged 12.95 for this dire main course. We did complain, I felt ripped off to be honest but it fell on deaf ears. This Telegraph offer is normally superb but not at this Pub This is not a Gastro Pub.

Living local to the Old Castle Hotel, and knowing it had recently been taken over by a new landlord we thought we would give it a try.And what a excellent decision that was.The layout of the interior of the pub has not altered a great deal except for a complete refurb inside and out.The new landlord Andy and Elaine are working wonders. They have an extensive menu, covering for all tastes. The food is excellent and reasonably priced.Andy is responsible for the all the cooking. The restaurant areas are warm and cosy, the tables are candlelit and ideal for an evening meal, or that special celebration meal.Since going there as a family, and sampling there hospitality I would strongly advise anyone to give it a try and be as hooked as we are now.It is nice to find a pub with such friendly staff and a nice atmosphere.
