| Fantastic looking pub/hotel in a lovely village with stunning countryside all around. The reviews below are old, and I don’t think reflect the current establishment. We popped in on an April Sunday afternoon, just after main lunch service. We didn’t eat, but food looked good, and moderately priced. It’s the small touches all around that show the pub is well loved. 3 real ales; Lindisfarne Holy island bitter, Rigg and Furrow Run hop run & Hadrian Border Tyneside blonde. We sat in the well kept secluded garden to rear, which had a farm on one side and Cheviot hills To face. I’m posting 7, but may increase this when I’ve eaten here. | Went in soon after New Year. The place was packed with diners, but we managed to find a seat. The beer was OK, but nothing special. The edge was rather taken off the visit by one of the barstaff refusing to serve a family of foreign tourists, who had been driving for hours and were very hungry. He said there were no free tables, which was fair enough, but wouldn't let them wait for one or even sell them sandwiches to eat at one of the non-dining tables. Since a load of people left shortly after, this seemed pretty unnecessary and rather jobsworth. So I've lowered the mark I otherwise would have given. paul154 - 31 Jan 2012 16:45 |
| Friendly staff, good atmosphere, nice locals. Didn't have beer but the wine was fine. But.....the food. We had the special - sea bass fillet with pommes dauphinoise. Both looked and tasted as if they were pre-cooked and then heated up for us. Dried out and horrible. The little dish of mixed veg was as bad, except it was overcooked. We did wonder why we were the only people eating there on a Friday night when it had a substantial dining room.
