user reviews of the Showboat, Pendlebury

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This pub was one of the best, if not the best, in the north of England. It was a typical 'boozer' catering for all types of working [and non-working] class clientele. The 'barrelage' was unsurpassed even for pubs four times the size of the Showboat. The original name of the place was the Shepherds Arms until a local man by the name of Melvyn Percival bought the pub from Walkers Brewery and re-named it to it's better known local nickname 'The Showboat' It's had a somewhat coloured and chequered past - too lengthy to recall in this short space but, one day a book may be written about some of the hilarious, and deadly serious, events that took place in the premises. The death knell of the pub was sounded by the gross stupidity of the breweries compounded by the equally ineptitude knowledge of successive governmnts. percy pig.

not been in since it got took over but was my local untill landlords let every tom dick and harry in and gave family and friends top prioritys that made you feel uncomfortable i.e reserving seating areas for them ect the landlords even come across as they where better than you and treated you like shit. they had a big alsastian dog that they let roam the pub at night (not what you wanted on a night out, so resulting in many punters and locals refusing to go in. the best thing the exlandlord did was leave even if it was for unforseen circumstances.

Nice little pub lots of local people.
Don't seem to show football matches (not such a bad thing) Has a pool table gets plenty of use.
No trouble is tolerated by the landlord of the pub. Much safer place to be compared to previous years.
Does not serve food
Drinks tend to be a little bit in the pricey side for the area
