No hesitation, my rating for the Fox is 10/10. After an excellent stay there, I could not believe that it currently has a BITE rating of only 4.3/10. But having read the negative reviews, most of which seem to have been written by first timer reviewers who have never contributed anything else to BITE, I have drawn my own conclusions. I am sure that you will too ….

I think that it is time for a regular BITE reviewer to put the record straight ….

The Fox is in an idyllic rural location alongside the River Windrush. I cannot fault anything about the accommodation, the staff, the service, the food or the drink. Our room was tastefully furnished, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The staff were all very friendly and efficient and our meals were freshly prepared, well cooked and nicely presented. Being tied to the Donnington Brewery, the choice or real ale is a little limited, but I opted to drink the Donnington Gold which was tip-top.

On both the (mid week) nights that we stayed at the Fox the car park was full and the bar busy, which is always a good indication of a good pub. We certainly look forward to staying at the Fox again in the future and I have no hesitation in recommending it …

Beautiful pub and great location. My family had a great lunch which was served promptly and well presented. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. We even asked the landlord if we could view the accommodation as we may return for a holiday to the area. The rooms were superb which we were told have been recently refirbished. We booked on the spot and will be returning in August. Would recommend this Pub to anyone who is passing by.

Beautifull Location. Downhill from thereon. Arrived 12.30 for booked Sunday lunch order taken at 12.50 and food came at 13.50, after we complained, many people turned up after us and got served first. Sat outside on benches one of which was broken. Waiting staff excelent. Manger was there one? Food grossly overpriced. Beer for real ale very poor. Have been many times before never again.

Beautiful location, but this is as far as the positives go. The Oddingtons beer (which I generally love) was off and in a very dirty glass, as was my wifes wine. She had to share the wine with the lipstick marks of the previous drinker. The barman was less than interested as we appeared to be interrupting his conversation with friends. The food was very expensive and very tasteless. The skills involved in undercooking eggs and microwaving what appeared to be (and tasted like) week old food were truly boundless. In addition to this I felt like I needed a bath upon exiting the pub. For anybody thinking of visiting this, what should be a lovely old world country pub I would suggest that they simply don't. I should have complained when I was there, as it was truly awful, but you know what us British are like. We would rarther pent our anger and frustration on a forum.

. Real Ale was off, barman wasn't interested! even the cola was flat.....
. Pub was dirty, floor sticky, tables wasn't clean
. Ploughman's was awful, the salad looked as if it came off someones else's plate!
. The fish and chips tasted good until my husband too some of the batter off. ONLY TO FIND THE FISH HAD BLUE MARKS ON IT. IT LOOKED LIKE PAINT OR SPRAY.

AND AGAIN THE BARMAN WAS NOT INTERESTED.

However, the waitress was miffed that I was taking photos of the blue markings of the fish

WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PUB.

My recommendation is, find another country pub where the landlord IS interested in the patrons coming through their door. There are plenty out there
