Hi Luke, I gained employment after I wrote the review. But I do agree with your first comment, it did sound a tad managerial - sadly, a habit I cannot get out of having had to write blurbs for so many pubs for so many years!

I'd like to say that the glowing review I left is what landed me the job, but I'd be telling porkies. However, now that I am on the management team at the Richmond, I'd like to say I am proud to work in such an awesome pub. I left the rating blank for this one, not my place to rate it as staff.

Bardudette, I understand that you are now working at the Richmond these days. Can I ask whether you were working there last April when you posted the glowing review of the venue ? Or did you subsequently gain employment there, later ?

Been to Bristol for a long weekend and bumped into this place in one of my walks. From the outside it looks like an average pub. I went in as it was a cold day and I was looking for a cosy place to sit for a while, have a drink and maybe eat. It ended up being my favourite meal on the trip. Obviously we all have our own preferences. I for one like simple and honest, which is what this place delivers extremely well. It's not pretentious at all, the food is delicious, I had a proper sunday roast, the portions were very generous and the price fair. The staff were friendly just like the overall atmosphere in the pub. During my trip I went to different places to eat, including Jamie Oliver's restaurant and I have to say, as much as I liked the food at Jamie's, The Richmond still won. Obviously I'm not comparing the meals since one is an italian restaurant and the other an english pub, they're different categories, but at Jamie's I felt like I was paying a considerable extra for the decoration and a printed signature on a menu. At The Richmond I got great quality, no frills and a fair price. And that's always a winner in my book.

Message for Luke - i'm the manager of the new Richmond (public house and kitchen) and as far as i agree with your point that abusing review websites for self publication is dishonest (Hence why we DON'T do it) i would also like to point out that it works the other way - it looks like you've worked in the industry and locally and so perhaps your comments are designed to muddy our good name? If so, please dont, by all means swing by and see what we have done to the place - please not also i am not rating ourselves - i'm confident in what we offer but please make your own minds up :)
