Shocked by how much this once good real ale pub has declined.
Dirty, smelly (of dogs) and beer very average.
I hate to say it, but AVOID.
It's a dump.

Visited this pub in the afternoon with my dad and found the girl behind the bar really friendly. I made the mistake of ordering a cider which was not clearly marked by a pump clip and just a homemade paper one(i Wanted real ale). The girl offered to change it but I plodded on and to be fair I'm not a cider drinker but it was nice. This pub can go to another level but I feel it's happy the way its going. Still one of the best pubs in Bolton

Nowhere near as good as it used to be, which is a great shame. Now only has a very limited choice of ales which were average at best.

First visit for over a year - don't get to Bolton often these days. Friendly welcome, real coal fire and relaxed atmosphere. Interesting range of beers and reasonable prices.

Visited for a change from the Howcroft but much the same very ordinary beers and surly bar staff.
